- Businessman Andrew Yang laments that he’s one of few Democrats of color still in the presidential race. But he also makes light of his heritage with jokes about how he’s good at math and knows “a lot of doctors.”
On Monday at the 2020 Iowa Brown & Black Presidential Forum in Des Moines, he told VICE News that jokes can be a helpful way to address racist stereotypes.
“Making light of these stereotypes and dragging them into the light is not a bad thing,” Yang said. “By poking fun at these things, we can actually see them for how ridiculous they are.”

I think you guys are not getting the point. For one, interviewers should be challenging to all candidates. The other thing in challenging the program Yang started with ivy league grads is that often people start new programs instead of building on existing programs.
I have literally never seen more biased "journalism" in my life, they were literally laughing at him multiple times during the interview- one of the establishment-friendly candidates like Warren or Biden would NEVER get spoken to like this. I don't even like Yang at all, but this proves conclusively that Vice is not an organisation that is to be taken seriously.

I'm behind Yang 100% and I also think it's ok for interviewers to go tough -- every good candidate should be ready to respond to that kind of scrutiny

that's awesome! -- he really does operate at a level of substance that the other candidates just don't even begin to come close to, and this is something lots of people are craving these days. so for lots of people then, the moment they hear him they're instantly like "that's my president!". he's really not getting the exposure from media outlets that he should be getting though, and so lots of people unfortunately still don't even know who he is. so if after learning more about him, you continue to be impressed by him, then please tell all you friends and family about him. the more exposure the better!

When Yang tries to tie UBI to racial animus, leftists don’t seem to like that. As a Bernie bro, and a black person, I had an issue when the NYTimes questioned Bernie about whether material insecurity was tied to racism in Trump supporters.
The bearded host tried to come at Bernie hard as well, calling he and his ideas radical. But Bernie pivoted to the audience and diffused the line of questioning by asking the audience if his ideas were radical and making a viral moment out of it. But Bernie is a more seasoned politician and he’s probably more fluent is parrying attacks from interviewers than Yang is. Yang is a nice guy and hasn’t had a real antagonistic interview that I’ve seen.

I watch VICE's HBO news programming frequently, and some of it is really good and some of it is garbage, depending on who they have on the beat.
This is some of the worst I've seen from them. It made me feel sick the way they designed everything to antagonize him and wasted our time trying to create drama nobody cares about.
They were just reading note cards by the shows producers snd editors. Fired maybe not but they should be ashamed cos if they actually did some research they would know Andrew Yang's policies would benefit Black communities and families the most.

The "titles" Vice chooses for these clips show a really unfair bias, so far only Warren has a positive title. Bernie, Biden and now Yang characterized negatively before the clip starts. Bad journalism.

Making the top companies in our nation (Amazon, Apple, Starbucks, Netflix, etc) who pay ZERO or near 0 in federal corporate income tax actually pay their fair share!! Easy, it's not good. Companies especially big companies that must answer to share holders WILL NOT cut profits for the lazy and poor. If you cannot see that, you shouldnt be voting.

I've lost all respect for vice after this interview. Seriously, I like your documentaries so much, I was hoping for a decent interview of someone who is trying uplift everyone.

If this interview has shown me anything, it's Yang has to really become visually passionate. When he delivered the line about eradicating poverty, I felt that. He's got to fight for the win here. The interviewers were kids, but they got Yang to show another side. Yang has always been calm and efficient. Trump won't be easy on him, so this is prep work for the real thing.
Look at vice titling their videos with a little sound byte they managed to get out of Yang. They’re going from the edgy alternative news outlet to the lame stream mainstream media.
