  • “Guaranteeing healthcare to all people through a Medicare for All program, is that radical?” Sanders asked the crowd at the 2020 Iowa Brown & Black Presidential Forum.
“Raising the minimum wage to 15 bucks an hour, is that radical? Making all public colleges and universities tuition-free, canceling all student debt through a tax on Wall Street speculation: radical? Dealing with climate change: radical? Immigration reform: radical? Criminal justice reform - radical? Protecting a woman's right to control her body, - radical? Sane gun policy - radical?” Sanders said. “I beg your pardon.”
With each question, the diverse audience responded with a louder “no,” before giving him a round of applause.

Medicare for All is not a radical idea, but I'll tell you what is.. Healthcare funded by GoFundMe. I'm sick and tired of seeing my friends and so many Americans having to desperately beg people to help pay their medical bills, many who are insured, but with high deductibles and out of pocket expenses. Only the very rich, and very lucky ones who haven't yet experienced an extremely expensive life altering medical emergency will tell you that Medicare for All is a radical idea.

If you ever encounter anyone saying stuff like you say, do me a favor and ask specific questions about Bernie's policies and demand an answer. I guarantee you that person will never give you an answer! Have you ever heard of "troll farms"? It's an organized group of trolls that will either troll sites of undesired candidates (like Bernie, Yang and Tulsi!) Or they pretend to be supporters of these undesired candidates and destroy that group AND the candidate from within. And no, these trolls are not Russian or Chinese, they are professional groups whose job it is to troll. They were VERY present after 9/11. But I promise you, we don't entertain the thought to send anyone to the gulag or what have yah. We may disagree on policy but trust me, at the bottom line our needs, Hope's, fears and goals are exactly the same. We're no saints but who is! In a divided society debates will heat up but don't let that division intensify by paid trolls whose main goal it is to divide us up and make us hate each other. "divide and conquer" is an ancient tactic that still applies and work today. Always remember that in the back of your head. We're not enemies! I think she is in favour of a version of medicare for all. You dont have to agree with Bernie Sanders on every thing to be for medicare for all. I actually went to her homepage just now and she clearly states she for medicare for all. Then she has an initial plan to get there in stages and I understand that is a point of contention. Some think we need a fast and fairly direct transition. Others think that is politically unfeasible which I think is a fair concern another concern is if we take it step wise like this we will never get there which is a point i sympathize most with. But Warren's pman is a huge step forward and towards something like m4a. And will relieve those with the least resources first for medical treatment.
I would go with option of trying to "fastrack" medicare for all because it is hugely popular and both the perception and stat numbers of access would probably support its success. Then we can get those who dont like it try to repeal it with the extremely probable political backlash that would ensure.

I live in the EU, and while not radical it's certainly a garbage pile of policy. There's a reason why gross salaries even in Germany are so insultingly low - especially for our brightest minds. It's no wonder that they leave for greener pastures, and they will continue to do so. Right now the main destinations are the US and Switzerland. Turn the US into a clone of the EU and you'll see a massive outflow of talent with new destinations. Which will screw the little guy in the US much harder than those that Bernie is now trying to take from, have the US lose its position in the world, and turn some less naive region into the new global leader.

    • @Jenny-zu6nm

@@nal8503 Has it occured to you that the "main destinations" are going to be determined by those who have enough money to get their in the first place? Saying "rich people want to move to the US" doesnt prove that the US is working well for anybody but the rich.

    • @nal8503
      @nal8503 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Jenny-zu6nm Has it occurred to you, that as terrible as it may be, it doesn't matter who has money to "get _there_ in the first place"?
First off, those who can just barely afford it are targeting specifically such countries for the reasons outlined above in droves. That is an undeniable fact and by far the biggest reason for America's success on a global scale. Just look at the number of migrant businesses and how much of the GDP they make up.
Secondly, your idea that you need to be rich to move anywhere is not just avoiding the fundamental argument, but is completely wrong. People repeatedly move to the US dirt poor. And most of them eventually _at least_ make it into the middle class. With some even becoming future elites themselves.
Hence, it is not just untrue that this is working only for the rich. It works perfectly and as intended for ambitious, motivated and self-driven people of any income and wealth levels.
Which is _precisely why_ the US is consistently among the very top of destinations for anyone who seeks greener pastures in life.
In fact, the wealthy often _leave_ the US to skirt capital gains taxes, so the lower upper classes and low to middle class are benefiting in a much more substantial manner. Because beyond $10 Million USD any extra, no matter how large, does not significantly change your lifestyle. While if you have virtually nothing, even $100k will change your world, in some aspects at least.
Either way, you didn't get the fundamental argument. If you take the opportunities and tools for, as well as pathways to upward mobility away from _especially_ the poor and middle classes, you will _destroy_ the US as a target destination _and_ simultaneously create an exodus to other places.
This will hurt anyone who stays beyond your worst nightmares, perhaps not immediately, and you likely won't even notice because of how heavily the elites try to obfuscate the theft of your labour (through taxation and regulation), but it _will_ undeniably happen.

      $15 minimum wage 🤦🏻‍♂️
Less experienced employees will get fired. More competition from job seekers (usually more skilled) because of the higher pay will hurt those looking for entry level jobs. This will bump less experienced (including foreigners trying to start a new life here). Business can shut down because of the cost to train new employees. There’s also the ripple effect of stress from extra work since a business can’t keep all the current employees, now the ones that are kept have to pick up the slack. Service quality suffers, stress leads to work anxiety and now $15 just doesn’t seem enough

Bernie doesn't fight for the common man. He just claims to do so. In reality he's completely reality departed and doesn't even make an effort to understand that which he demonizes. Because if he did, he'd almost immediately come to realize that everything he advocates for hurts the weakest the most. Because the stricter the stranglehold of government becomes the harder for the little guy to get anywhere. The wealthy and/or competent can navigate such deranged waters, but the little guy who just wants to live his life _can not._

Guy: "lets spend billions on tearing down a symbolic fence"
Bernie: "no thanks, id rather get free child care for the poor"
The first candidate in my lifetime with real material, substantive policy to help the majority .. As opposed to empty rhetoric and politician corrupt BS

He’s a FDR Democrat. He’s not radical the things that he’s planning have already been done by civilized countries. Free public College and University was here pre Reagan. We have lost our rights, safety and future. Health is deteriorating as is our environment. We need major changes not business as usual. Corruption must end and can only be done by someone who isn’t corrupt.
Vote Bernie and let’s see what we can achieve.

This is fantastic. I was going to vote for Joe Biden Bernie Sanders answer tough questions. Handled himself I believe Bernie Sanders is a fighter. I think he will do better and in general elections against Trump. His policies really don't seem that radical. There's a saying Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying. I believe that's what Bernie is doing. He's trying to make it better for us all. Why not get on board with that.

Vice: being fair to undocumented people is hard and politically inconvenient. That might leave u vulnerable to Trump's attacks.
Bernie: yes, so? Should I be injust instead?

He is not a fancy politican. That's a blessing. He doesn't fit in because he never wanted to fit in..and at this age he will never be able to be bought or coerced to fit in. Those are not his goals. They never were. His record shows it. He is real.
I wish him health and strength.
