@@arisuwatermelon5414 of course Mike recommends a whole foods plant based diet. thats what his channel is about and what he believes but fact of the matter is any balanced diet is significantly better than what most people eat. Ideally everyone needs to go back to home cooked meals where you control the ingredients of what goes into stuff and not some corporation that have and do pad products out with cheap stuff to keep the costs down and fill it with preservative and all sorts of stuff.
problem is products are designed to be addictive and the biggest addictive substance on earth to humans is sugar which is vegan of course even the tons of other sugar derivatives like malt barley extract, HCFS etc when you look up all the other sugar syrups etc and then look at alot of products you'll find multiple types of sugar in stuff and so the problem will constantly continue.

The good news is, if you can walk outside, even just 20 minutes, the combination of walking and being outside has been shown to extend life and have general benefits for people's health. For those who can't walk or can't walk outside, something like stretching might be a good alternative. Even singing is good for the ab muscles -- no joke. In fact, any kind of concentrated breathing exercise can have great benefits. In fact, even STANDING (if one is physically able to do so safely) can have many benefits. Get creative. Dance. Sing. Stand. Stretch. Walk outside. Every little bit helps.

Lots of people I knew who had a far less healthy lifestyle got better in no time. I've heard of hundreds of anecdotal cases of others in the same boat as me. Yes, diet and lifestyle have an impact, but covid is also a medical mystery that can't be simply explained in lots of cases

I haven't heard of hundreds of these cases. Your post may be genuine or not. I'm just being careful. If genuine, had you kept /are you keeping your vit D up to 66 ng /ml (for the whole year) shown by blood tests? Did you try high dosage? Are you wfpb? If not, do you eat inflammatory junk? It is not a guarantee with anything but anecdotes are anecdotes and the bulk of the science points towards well-planned wfpb + adequate vit D offering better chances.

BTW, I'm also 23 years old and had no preexisting conditions. There's a phenomenon of previously perfectly healthy and active people who face debilitating conditions post covid. @@LuckyM83 While I tend to buy mostly organic vegetables and fruits, the role of animal agriculture in destroying our soil can't be ignored. Most of the earth's agricultural land produces food to feed animals. If we stopped eating animal products, we would be using less land than we use now. This excess land can be used to rewild and replenish the soil with nutrients. Not just that, the fecal matter from factory farms contaminates soil. Overgrazing to feed livestock is one of the biggest causes of soil destruction. So if you care about our soil - stop eating animal products. This Guardian article explains the issue eloquently: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/may/16/meat-eaters-soil-degradation-over-grazing

Luckily I live in italy , most of my veggies grow closeby home, they're bio but not declared. The damage I'm talking about , on the soil, is everywhere , agricolture has become intensive too , not only animals have been exploited. Masks don't really protect you from getting it, it lowers the chance that a COVID positive person will spread the virus. Most people are asymptomatic, so that's why everyone needs to wear a mask to avoid spreading it. But one infected unmasked person can spread it to a bunch of people even if they're wearing masks. I hear a lot of people in WI are not wearing masks. Also, even if you're 6 ft away, indoors the virus can linger in the air and infect people much farther than 6 ft. So you could have entered an area where an unmasked infected person is or was before you got there. If there are a bunch of unmasked infected people, the chance is greater. Hope you get well soon.

My dads always been the main cook in the house until I started to sort myself out now with my own diet and now my mum, he cooks for him and my sister, he cooks mainly what I see as junk food, lots of oil and process foods, lots of unhealthy snacks in the day, likes to have a drink etc. He’s now brought in covid Into the house and is currently in intensive care with a low risk of survival, as the main career for everyone I decided to go full with soups n green smoothies for everyone, my sister is high risk with symptoms and is positive but she looks better day by day, my mums positive but no symptoms, she has asthma so I’m concerned for her but she’s doing well so far, I’ve come out negative but not sure if I have contracted it in the week and a half we have been in this situation, I am symptom free and feel absolutely fine. I can’t say for sure that it’s the diet but from all my research over the years I’m pretty confident it’s helped a lot. Take what u want from this I just wanted to share my experience.

As someone who works in a nursing home in Italy: We've had lots of cases this spring when tests weren't easily available. Many people think of elderly people with preexisting conditions as people who could die any given day, but that's not the case. None of the people who have died of COVID in spring in our structure were in a really bad condition before. Plus they all had survived a very very bad stomach bug we've had back in January. In other words: most if not all the people who have died in our structure from COVID could still be alive today. When a person dies a doctor has to file a sheet for statistics. There has to be mentioned what exactly caused the death, what caused the akute cause, what other conditions were present. If a persons organs are allready weak, they catch the virus and the infection leads to multi-organ-failure, the akute cause is multi organ failure, the cause that caused that would be COVID. Other present conditions would be chronic xyz. Also if a person at the time of death is no longer COVID positive the doctor doesn't mention COVID on the sheet, even if it might have pushed reactions inside the body that the person who was able to clear the virus couldn't recover from.
The cases that might be debatable are the ones where terminally ill people are in the hospital and allready on comforting messures because there is nothing that can be done for them and they have a few days left at best and then catch the virus on top of it. But I have a feeling that these are really a tiny tiny minority.
Now I know that it isn't neccessarily the same in the US as it is in Italy but maybe this information can give you some insight.

@Vince What's deceptive is counting every person who died and was tested positive for a corona virus with the PCR test, which has a false positive rate of anywhere between 50% and 94%, as a corona death, no matter if they died of a heart attack, the flu, suicide or car accident. Furthermore, the Italian government had to correct the numbers of corona dead down, by 88%. The US government had to correct the numbers down by 94%. So where are those piles of dead we are constantly being scared with? Where are they?
Here in Germany the hospitals are empty because there is no outbreak unlike what the media and government say.
The real victims of corona are the people who were driven to suicide by social isolation and fear, with the media and politicians working overtime to artificially fan the flames they themselves created in the first place. The people who died alone at home of heart attack, stroke or any other disease which could've, maybe, prevented, were it not for the corona measures which scared them literally to death. They were told not to go to the doctor unless they have corona, they were told hospital beds were reserved for corona patients. In the US every elderly resident in a retirement home died because of neglect, because the staff were too scared to go to work and nobody was there to watch these people.
Sweden and Belarus are 2 prime examples of what happens without mandating the wearing of masks and without any lockdown... nothing. Sweden is currently experiencing a lower mortality rate than the average of the last 5 years.
How about the people who lost their business, their job, their source of income, their home because of insane measures without the slightest justification.
I would wager more people died because of the measures imposed than from the disease itself.

I had read a health study about 2 months ago, a study published in the UK. They discovered that those with a BMI more than 30, those who did not eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies, and those who are men, had a higher chance of getting covid. It's not a blanket statement, but if we can eat healthy and walk more to help fend of any illness, why not ?

I am fascinated by good gut bacteria vs bad. Recently I've eaten lots of vegan junk food (at home), and now I'm happily back to whole foods plants because it just makes me tummy happier and my poop better. Win, win. Thanks for the video. I enjoy hearing about Covid this way. I wish more would talk about it like you did here. That would be helpful. Cheers and boogie boogie, Ivy.

I think people are willing to change if they get desperate enough. I also think a plant based whole food diet is a boon to adopt during COVID for an unspoken reason...it's the only diet where one can eat A LOT of great food and not gain weight. A genuine stress buster! Thanks for a very informative video.

I can understand that it can be hard to eat healthy especially when you’re living in an area that is in a lockdown. I live in Ireland and we’re in our second all county lockdown and you are not supposed to leave your home except for absolute essentials so I can understand people grabbing and stocking up on non perishables and possibly unhealthy foods to reduce the amount of times they need to leave their home. Fruit and veg spoil. Frozen pizzas and dinners , snacks, tinned foods etc don’t spoil as fast. Also here we are only allowed to exercise within 5 km of our homes which is very restrictive for many leading to many just not going out to exercise

230,000 Americans dead. Of the 230,000, how many are under 70? Under 60? Etc. Within each group, how many have an underlying health condition and/or are obese?
Bottom line what percent of the deceased are elderly, have underlying health conditions or are obese? My guess? 99%.

Thank you very much for shining a light on these studies. The more often this information gets discussed across the internet, the more people will start to accept that what they choose to eat relates to their risk of catching the virus. As a DOH COVID hotline volunteer a few hours a week, I try to squeeze in this statement where I can: "Get in a variety of brightly colored fruits and vegetables every day to help your (or you and your family's) immune system and help decrease your risk of getting severe covid symptoms."

The majority of ppl won't switch. Just from my family and friends alone they so use to eating the way they do, they tell me they won't change cause it taste so good, aka meat and dairy. Even my mum that has diabetes won't change. She says oh she knows but isn't willing to change even a bit. All I hear her do is complain about pain (inflammation) and she says why is this happening to me, all I can do is roll my eyes. I use to stress myself out about it but I can't keep doing that.
People won't change even facing life and death, sad but true.

As a dietitian, when Covid first showed up and everyone was staying home, I felt like the main focus in the nutrition world was not eating all the time and gaining a bunch of weight during the pandemic. Trying to get people healthier, which can take a long time, to try to improve immunity from an immediate threat seemed crazy. But as time has gone by and the virus has lingered, thinking long-term makes more and more sense. Changing peoples habits is a challenge, and changing the habits of an entire population overwhelming. I'd love to think that the possibility of dying from Covid-19 might motivate people to get healthier, but if the threat of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and stroke doesn't, not sure if it will. Nevertheless, if I weren't optimistic, I wouldn't do what I do. And thanks for doing what you do. I appreciate that you site studies, acknowledge their limitations, and avoid making any wild claims.

I‘m trying to eat vegetarian 90% of the time and vegan 50% of the time. I‘m currently traveling and it makes it really hard with all the eating out. I realized after only 3 months of eating crap how bad my gut has become. I used to have tons of issues in the past which I was able to fix with changes in my diet and some supplements. Now those issues are slowly crawling back in which sucks alot. Guys, eat proper foods before it‘s too late 🥺.

It's a good thing I lost 100 lbs in a singe year, pretty much right before covid
In order to lose weight from what i found -> low calorie diet (slightly below your calorie maintenances) + light cardio
Low calorie dense food's like popcorn (31 per cup) means you can eat more of it, be full & still lose weight; High calorie dense food's like peanut butter (1543 per cup) means you'll have to eat less or risk getting fat

It’s only anecdotal, but in my family I am always the last to catch any circulating viruses (and in most cases never catch them at all). While my parents have colds, flu, etc. for weeks, I usually fight them off within two days. Obviously Covid is a different animal and I would never be complacent, just highlighting that my whole food plant-based diet is probably why I have a better track record with viruses.

Obesity disproportionately affects people living in poverty, who work in industries like fast food, retail, grocery store workers, manufacturing industries, all of which are remained "essential" industries through this entire pandemic. I wonder if that contributes the increase in infection as well.

I have to agree with this. As an Indian, I am aware of how poor our sanitation and healthcare can be. However, Indians tend to all have some sort of home solution as the first line of defense before going for medical care. I'm talking of ginger/turmeric/lemon/black pepper based drinks or foods. I know from growing up that if you feel even slightly off, first step is consuming one of these concoctions before assessing the next day and choosing to visit the doctor. Furthermore, our diet does contain a lot of spices, many of which are proven anti-inflammatory/anti-bacterial, etc.
