Roads in Tasmania (132) Jan24 - Lake Dulverton walk to Parattah - diverse farming - rainy day

- Today, Karen decided we should do the Parattah walk around Lake Dulverton.
Lake Dulverton was once a shared domain for cattle farmers to bring their herds down to feed on the grasses that grow in the lake. This essentially kept the lake clear of vegetation and the towns folk could come down to swim, row and picnic. Now it is a wildlife sanctuary.
The walk isn’t a difficult one, but it is long and it was made more difficult by the changing conditions- raining, not raining, cool, too warm to continue wearing the raincoat. So it was a bit stop start.
Karen’s raincoat fails completely and she is wet through most of the walk. Plus, she forgets her food for the day and Monique splits hers in half and we walk on half rations for the entire day.
Parattah is an eerie place- deserted and rundown. It would be a great set for a movie with a scary ending… anyway our active imaginations completely freak us out by the time we get to the train station to use the toilet there.
While we are eating, a random guy shows up and that makes us even more jumpy.
So when heading home we spot 2 bikes on the side of the track, we are on high alert!!
Part of walking around the country side, as two women, we are aware of possible dangers.
Anyway, hope you enjoy this walk. Karmonajourney to Parattah, most would not have seen this town.
A lovely walk on my end :) No energy expended. Loved the scenery and the animals and so many bits and pieces along the way. Pity about the weather.
