Roads from Tasmania (138) Jan24 - Travel Day Yass to Tuncurry 575kms - bats, heat wave, beach swim
We rise early to continue north east up through NSW. Mon is very quickly aware we have made a critical mistake parking up under the trees for the night. The bats have come in early this morning to feed and the van and car cop a barrage of seeds, small branches and leaves and plenty of bat scats. We have to stop in town at a service station to clean it off as best we can. We head off an hour later than we had hoped.
Our original plan is to stop in Wang Wauk, at a farm stay, but the soaring temperatures have us rethinking that idea and we change our days plan to head toward the coast, to Tuncurry instead.
As we approach Coolongalook our tyre monitor alarm goes off and the ever increasing road temperatures are a real concern, so we stop to allow them to cool down. After a longer than normal break we head off again, but it isn’t long before it goes off again, so we slow down, switch it off and limp the last 20kms into Tuncurry.
It’s a welcome relief to find it is over 10degrees cooler on the coast.
We hang out there, at the dog park, for the rest of the day, have a walk and swim at the beach and generally try to stay as cool as possible. We have a small recognition to Australia Day with lamingtons and prawn cocktails for lunch.
My apologies to Coolongalook, I am certain you are not god forsaken… it was just the heat frying my brain.
Thank you and karmonajourney through Sydney to the coast as we pass through the furnace that was the NSW heatwave on Australia Day.

Roads in Tasmania (132) Jan24 - Lake Dulverton walk to Parattah - diverse farming - rainy day
มุมมอง 2832 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today, Karen decided we should do the Parattah walk around Lake Dulverton. Lake Dulverton was once a shared domain for cattle farmers to bring their herds down to feed on the grasses that grow in the lake. This essentially kept the lake clear of vegetation and the towns folk could come down to swim, row and picnic. Now it is a wildlife sanctuary. The walk isn’t a difficult one, but it is long a...

It's bad enough stepping in dog's droppings, but to step in all of that would be friggin disgusting. I'm sure there's bags for dog's mess, so all the wallabies need to do is to go to a dispenser and take a bag and clean up. Dear wallabies, pick up your mess when you've finished your business. • @karmonajourney
      @karmonajourney 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s all about weight distribution. If everything goes in the van and nothing in the car, we end up with far too much drag behind the vehicle and the tow ball weight gets out of whack. It’s a great tip to get a towing expert to weigh your van and vehicle, fully packed for touring, to be sure you have the weight right- front to back, side to side and van to car. It’ll save a lot of sway and braking issues if you do. Also, some of it is just 3 extra layers of clothing, back packs for sightseeing or hiking and our fridge for use when away from the van. Happy touring. Glad to have you along for the ride. ☺️

      Thanks Jenny. It was a hard decision to make, but mostly because we were so torn with the commitments we had made to being in Tassie and to taking control of a family situation. In the end we said if we could get on the boat, we would go. Another family camping near us at Churchill farm had been trying for weeks to get onto the boat. Mon rang SOT and explained our situation. They said they’d had a cancellation that would fit our rig, so if we could get to the other side of Tassie by 6am the next morning they’d get us on. So we believed it was meant to be. The trip home was a huge shock to the system. We have some footage of that trip coming up. Thanks for your support. Karen

    Was this the 22nd January - the day we saw you.? We stopped in Colebrook. It was a pretty little place. The church was under renovation supported by some locals, businesses and the Pugin Foundation. Pugin was a famous English architect who designed this church in 1847. There is also one in Oatlands and Richmond and this is the only place in the world where three of his designs are in close proximity.

    0:34 Turmeric! Put a bit in your tomato sauces, soups, on your fried egg yolks. 2 minute noodles, turmeric, black pepper, tulsi leaf powder (fancy name for holy basil), ginger powder and garlic flakes, and coconut oil, a few pine nuts and whatever fresh veges or greens, boiling water, wait a few minutes. My recipe and I love it. I just vary the amounts and the vegetables, sometimes avocado, parsley, whatever I've got. I'm lazy. 🥣🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘 I'm going to come back. My computer ran out of power. 👍

      @@karmonajourney Even with turmeric every day, I still have joint issues (bugger!). You might have to drop a tablet, I'm not sure how much you need daily, but you could read up on it. I'm pretty sure you need to consume turmeric combined with coconut oil (not sure on amounts, again). And, I've read black pepper, also. Who knows? I just chuck it in anyway.

      @@karmonajourney Try googling Evandale History Society Inc water supply. There's a nice little article written in 1903 for the Daily Telegraph. It's a good little read. I don't know whether they built the other tower, but I'd say that might be the original one (at a guess) built in 1836. And, I think it was up for private sale a couple of years back, youtube, Evandale Tas 7212 Property for Sale by Owner. I don't know if it sold or for how much.

      Thank you. These buildings are quite novel for us Queenslanders. Most stuff built in QLD was from wood. It was only in Brisbane and maybe one or two other places that you can find these types of heritage buildings. Not entire towns built of stone. That’s why we love these towns so much.
