I agree. For instance, Anne of a Thousand Days used Geneviève Bujold to portray Anne. Bujold is so much prettier than the actual Anne. Ironically, Bujold even has reddish hair [at least in the movie], while the real Anne had black hair. By contrast, they used Irene Pappas to portray Catherine when Pappas is the total opposite of what the real Catherine who was a fair-skinned, red head was like. Just by looking at the film even without the characters talking, you feel that Henry and Catherine are not matched while Henry and Anne are: Richard Burton as Henry and Geneviève Bujold as Catherine are so attractive.

Although she did not accurately look physically like Catherine I thought Irene Papas did a great job of portraying Catherine’s , dignity , pride and stubbornness but also showed her deep hurt and sadness at being cast aside by Henry. From what I have read Catherine seemed to have genuinely loved Henry and they were happy in the beginning of their marriage and when it all fell apart she was heartbroken and fell into a deep melancholy when Henry divorced her.

Maria Doyle Kennedy did the best representation on screen for me. I can ignore hair color if the character is displayed respectfully and she played Katherine with the inherent dignity she had. Also in the Spanish production Carlos Rey Emperador, Katherine is portrayed, including the trial and that actress is a tie for me alongside Kennedy. Carlos in general does an amazing job, and the costumes are very accurate and beautiful, often directy copies from actual portraits of this era

The dance in "The Sword and the Rose," where the man lifts the woman into the air by her waist, was called the "La Volta," or "Volta," and was a real dance popular during the 16th century, although it was introduced later in the century than King Henry's reign. This is one of the few historically authentic dances in films set in the Tudor era.
