Great tutorial with clear instructions and not rushed, like most tutorials on TH-cam. Maybe worth mentioning that if you want to write automation to each aux channel go to the mixer in Logic, select the aux channels and choose 'Create Track' . Now I can control the levels of each kit by writing the automation in Logic.
Thank you so much for the kind comment, and yes, I plan on doing an updated version of this video soon where I will talk about using aux channels! Thank you for the recommendation! Happy Music Making!
Nice video! Quick question: Do you know what would need to be adjusted in this workflow if you wanted Group A to export to multiple tracks in Logic? So, for example, say Group B was a piano instrument (so just need the one midi track in logic), Group C was a sub bass (so again, only need the 1 midi track in logic), but Group A was your programmed Drums - so I want to send the kick to it's own midi track, snare, and on down the line. This gives me the ability to utilize compression, and effects on the individual sounds of the drum kit, instead of lumping them all into one midi track in logic and compressing the entire kit at once. I hope I am expressing this clearly. I would love to find a way to do this while still only leveraging a single instance of Maschine in Logic. I feel like the workflow you've show in this video gets so close to that. Thanks in advance!!!
Hi Matt, I know exactly what you are trying to do and unfortunately I have not figured out a way to do this in this particular workflow. You would need more than 16 midi channels within a multi timbral instrument to really do it. Here is a video where I separate out the sounds of a group to separate midi channels.... th-cam.com/video/0R8btyinck0/w-d-xo.html. Unfortunately, this won't help you because it only deals with one group per instance of Maschine. But in case you are interested in more elaborate detail of why this won't work in this workflow, the video will show you why. There may be a way to do this in a future upgrade. Also, if someone figures out how to do this, I encourage them to drop a link to their video here because I agree with you, it would be a nice addition to this workflow.
i think instead of using the whole kit, just use one kick, one snare etc.....and if u run out of tracks....open a 2nd instance of maschine which now gives u 32 tracks to work with......just my opinion....im interested in doing this as well and am going to try now.
Thanks , been looking for this for a while. Finally somebody has explained it..NI way too overly complicated for something that should be easily done..
Really thank you! You saved me from a big waste of time... After doing it the way you described it, i realized that it was enough to open it as only 16 outputs instead of opening it as a multi timbral instrument in the method I tried myself. I just created tracks from the aux channels i created in the mixer and drag the midi files to these tracks.
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I am really glad this was able to help you. Integration with Logic and Maschine has always been a bit clunky.
Seriously man thank you. I was running a separate instance Machine for every Maschine Group I was running and it was a true pain. I have now subscribed thanks again man.
Thanks for uploading this! I still am having an issue...After I record a pattern with group ! say a drum groove, then I want to have another crash sound from another group, when I press record the midi information from group 1 is recording into the new group so I cannot record a new pattern over the 1st pattern I have to go to another part of the song that has no midi from Maschine which is very annoying. Any idea how to record groups on top of each other?
Sorry for my late reply. I am not sure I am following your issue. You should be able to interchange the sounds all you want. Are you making sure to enable and disable the actual groups in maschine? Are you making sure you are setting your midi channels to channel 1, channel 2 etc? If I understand it your issue, it might be that you have your midi channels set to "all" in maschine. If you want to take a video of the issue, you can post it somewhere and then leave a link here in the comments, and I can take a look at what is happening.
dope video! My question that I've been racking my brain on ....is there a way using a very similar setup as you described to record the notes directly into Logic instead of dragging and dropping? I want full use the Maschine hardware for browsing sounds, using the pads, and of course the sounds but I wanna use Logic to record and sequence.
Yes, you can use your Maschine hardware to play in the midi notes into logic. Check this video out. I did an update a number of years ago to this video. Now, most of it will seem the same as to the video you just watched. Follow the steps and at the end of the video you will see that I delete the midi that I dragged in and I then used my keyboard to play in the notes. You can do this with machine by hitting Shift + Control on your maschine hardware which will put it into controller mode. Pay attention at 5 minutes in the video where I talk about the midi C1 note. You may have to adjust this to C0 or C-1 depending. th-cam.com/video/nRUyiJqRcIU/w-d-xo.html Try this out and let me know if it works for you. It depends on what maschine hardware you are using.
@@blueroadhome thanks for getting back to me. I watched the new video til the end. Before I had did that though, through a ton of headaches and trial and error, I figured out a workflow that will allow me to still use Maschine hardware to play drums on the pads and browse sounds while still recording all the midi data in logic and I mapped logic's step sequencer to all 16 pads of a Maschine group...I go back and forth between Maschine in MIDI mode as controller mode....this affords me the opportunity to get all my drum sounds on it's separate track in Logic without drag and drop
@@blueroadhome my workflow that I came up with is still working out pretty good but I'm doing it with 2 instances of maschine although I prefer one instance like you. I think I just figured it out! I just changed my group midi to channel 1...then I record my full drum sequence using maschine sounds and pads into one track in Logic...I hit "separate by note pitch" and it put each sample on it's own midi track and now my whole drum sequence is only taking up 1 midi channel! I think this may be the most ideal setup for me yet. Maybe we can do a zoom meeting one day.
Is Maschine still cumbersome in this way or have they made it so it can really work seamlessly in Logic now ? Thank you for this video.I only got as far as being able to get the drums going in drag mode, separate outputs for each drum part, before I gave up last time.It wasn't as Groups though.
To answer your question, yes, it is still rather cumbersome to set up in Logic. So it's best to do it once and then save it as a logic template. It's not just setting it up in Logic. It is equally as cumbersome to set up in Cubase Pro and other DAWs as well.

HI Chris, I'm sorry for my late reply. Before I answer this, let me clarify. Are you trying to export each midi sound to a separate channel or separate each midi sound to an audio wav file on separate tracks? For example, midi kick, snare and hihat to separate midi files within the group or midi kick, snare and hihat to separate Wav files on separate audio tracks? I know it may seem like a weird question but before I can answer I want to know exactly what you want to do.

This is a good idea, Darryl. I think if I were to include mixing and mastering it would have to be multiple videos. Just mixing and mastering alone is an entire series. But, I like your idea of working on a track. Let me figure this out and I think I can work something out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the recommendations!
Hey guy occasionally I sequence in Logic and use Maschine for drums. However my patterns are different like 8 bars or 6 bars and so on. When I attempt to lock it with logic it doesn't sequence in Maschine . How can I resolve it ?
Sorry for the late reply on this but you are most welcome and thank you for the kind message. I am always happy when one of these tutorials helps fellow musicians!
Hi Arman, thanks for watching. Basically set up logic using just one instrument channel. Doesn't need to be multitimbral. Set up Maschine 2 as multi-output. Follow the usual steps to get the midi into logic as 1 midi file containing all the sounds like we have done. Now, we will still have all the sounds on one midi channel. Simply right click or cmd click on the midi file in logic and select "midi" and then select "Separate by Note Pitch." That will put each sound on its own separate midi channel. Do that and you are good to go. I'll do a quick video tomorrow on this workflow just so you can see. Try this and let me know if it works. Sorry for my late reply.
Also you will want to then change all of your Instrument channels to midi channel 1 2 3 4 5 etc. And then In maschine you will select "sound", and for each sound you will select midi channel 1 2 3 4 5 etc. So a couple extra steps.
Absolutely, Arman. I am sorry for my late reply. I have been busy with work. I will try to get that video made and posted in the next couple of days. As soon as I do I will link it here for you.
Hey Arman, here is a link to my video on how to get all the sounds on different midi channels. I hope it helps and answers your question. th-cam.com/video/0R8btyinck0/w-d-xo.html
Hi Rob, thanks for the message. I think I follow what you are asking. The point of this workflow is so that you do not have to have the melody pattern playing in the maschine software. The idea is to play whatever melody directly into Logic. So, if you have a maschine pattern with a melody, just play that melody on the software instrument midi track in the Logic sequencer. Then you get the midi notes triggering the maschine sound you want but you have control of the melody in Logic. Does that make sense? I hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn't. And maybe send me a video or screen shot with the issue you are having and I can take a closer look.
Thank you for your answer! I got the idea... the thing is, when you have for example: Group 1 -> 1 Sound. This Sound is in Keyboard-Mode with a melody. So Logic can just trigger the "root-Note" and not the entire keyboard-section behind the sound. I hope you got me, its always so complicated to describe something in maschine and logic... Where can i send you something?
I totally see your issue. Yeah, the problem with this workflow is when you pull that pattern into logic, that melody will only play with that "root-note". Here is a simple work around. Copy that group and then make it a new group like "group 2". Then in group two delete all the other sounds except the one that is generating the melody. Then group 2 will be just the melody sound. Make sure in maschine the keyboard is selected. Now in logic you should be able to play the melody using your keyboard. Try that and see if it works. You can email me through my website. blueroadhome.com. And yeah, it is tough to do this via emailing. I think you just gave me the idea for my next video. I'm glad you raised this issue.

Hello. First of all thank you for casting some light on maschine daw integration which is a total nightmare. The method you are showing here is what I've been looking for, but I have a problem though. While it works perfectly with pre loaded patterns as you are doing in the video, it really fucks up if I want to record new patterns on new groups while playing the already sequenced pattern on logic (like playing the song I'm working on). For istance: If I'm on group B and hit rec on my machine hardware it all switch to recording everything I play and everything that is playing on group A on a new pattern on group A, leaving the new empty pattern on group B (which I created on purpose) empty. I'd like to be able to record a new pattern live on group B while logic is already playing sequenced midi notes on group A. If not possible I would have to "write it all" before dragging for arrangement and sequencing on logic. It would render the whole process useless. Please Help :) Thanks a lot and keep up the good work on your channel!
Thanks for the kind words, Nicola. That video is mostly designed to be used with a midi keyboard and not the actual maschine hardware. You can use the maschine hardware but there are a few things you need to do. Are you putting your maschine hardware in midi mode by hitting Shift +Control on the Maschine hardware? I was actually planning a video on incorporating the hardware to this soon. I am sorry because it is difficult to explain it by messaging and not being able to see the exact problem you have. Let me try and recreate the issue you are having.
