Jailbreaking is a must for iPhone users such as myself. You can do a lot more than regular crappy ios. Thats one aspect android users dont seem to understand when it comes to iphones.

We don't have to do anything to do what jailbreak allows you to do. Android can already do that stuff. We understand it, because we can already do it

Many of you might not agree with this but many people jailbreak their iPhones/pads/pods not just for customizing the appearance but so that they can install cracked apps or enable stuff that android users take for granted like being able to browse your phones/tabs internal storage from your phone/tab or downloading stuff directly to your phone/tab.

When you Jailbreak, you should Android.
When you Android, you should root.

Jailbreaking an iDevice makes it like an normal android, rooting on android is more advanced, you can overclock ur android, edit system files, change ROMs and etc, while jailbreaking only provides: Screen recording (Display recorder), theming (can be done on a normal android), access to some files and all of them are only from the cydia thing.

I personally used to be a massive fan of Apple, to the point which I made my Windows PC look as much as apple as I could. I had a 3rd generation iPod Touch which I used stock for a couple of months but then decided to plunge into Jailbreaking. I hadn't heard of android at the time and even when some of my friends had android phones I didn't really get it. I never looked back after Jailbreaking, but eventually it got boring. I had the opportunity to change phones (at this point I had a heavily customised iPhone 4) and switched to a Nexus 4, a phone if which I hadn't really heard of. At this point I was still a noob, but because I love customising constantly it only took one weekend for me to decide to root. Now, almost a year later, I've tried tons of new ROMS and kernels, I have Multi ROM Manager set up and am about to hardware mod my Nexus 4. Customising is something I love to do, which is what made me switch to Android. Jailbreaking was great, but just wasn't enough.

The first thing I have done with all my iDevices is as soon as the come out the box, jailbreaking is no. 1 priority. First off, have you seen those insane in-app purchase prices they charge? At least with jailbreaking you get all in-app purchases for free! Then iOS games become playable when you don't need to buy whatever is considered money in the game. Also all paid apps from AppStore are also free. This is the main reason I jailbreak. But then there is a lot of cool tweaks that I can't live without. But the free in-app purchases has got to be the ultimate tweak!

Jailbreaking is funner than rooting an Android device because Cydia is such a fun place, and rooting you just have to go to the placestore and there isn't all that much you can do because all of the fun is in themes which Android already has.

I jailbroke my iPod touch 4g just fine! Most lag comes from installing heavy tweaks like a fully customized winter board theme! And iPhones are great to jailbreak as being they have more ram I think it's 1GB right now but iPods too are also fine just don't install super heavy tweaks cause that will obviously cause lag!

Derp. Do you know what jailbreaking allows us to do? I think you don't. We have access to illegal things through a jailbreak. Cracked apps/tweaks among other things. Of course apple isn't going to open to that.

I don't know about jailbreaking, but custom ROMs are an absolute necessity for Android. The way Android devices, including flagship models, are released to the public is so disgusting it's unbelievable. Except for the likes of Nexus devices, they are bloated and slow. It's so sad that it takes a little effort to get these ROMs working, because the huge majority of people are living in ignorance of what Android really is. When I sold my Galaxy S3, and had to switch the phone back to TouchWiz, I almost threw up in my mouth. How Samsung can send out a device in this state is beyond anything I am able to comprehend. I hope to God that a way is paved so the masses can experience the glory of what a custom ROM is and what an Android experience can and should be.

Advice: You can Jailbreak, but NEVER DOWNLOAD TWEAKS. Recently, I jailbroke my iPhone, and I was pretty damn excited! I could download Cydia and do some awesome stuff! So, i started downloading some tweaks. A few days later, while I was playing a game in my iPhone, it suddenly just stopped. Just... stopped. And then, it reboot itself. It didn't completely reboot. My iPhone, was stuck on the apple logo, and then reboot itself again. I couldn't get out of the apple logo. I took it to the Apple Store, but they said I could replace it or buy a new one. Trust me, their is no solution if you download a few tweaks (even ONE tweak) your phone, will be in danger.

Good to know that the Jailbreak scene is still going strong. Used to be hugely into it before my iPod touch 2G died back in 2011, and wasn't sure if it would continue. I guess Cydia still has its monopoly on the JB app scene?
I was one of those that constantly extolled the virtues of jailbreaking to all my friends, even going so far as to JB their devices for them. I've been on android since and not seen the need to root really, as i'm never going to need that level of access for my own use.

  • @julius8631

Jailbreaking was so annoying. First you have to wait for a jailbreak, then something crashes and you have to reset your device. When you reset it you get a update and you have to wait for a jailbreak again...
It's so much easier with android, you can do most of the things without even rooting. If you need to root it's no problem.

I've had an iPhone 3, 3Gs and 4s and I have jailbroken all of them, just so I could play emulators, or for SBsettings back in the day of iOS 4, 5 and 6.
I now have a Nexus 5 and I have rooted it to be able to add custom toggles (Gravity Board) on stock android. I will eventually change to a custom ROM when I get board of stock android.
I must say though that I don't think I would jailbreak straight away with iOS8, as they seem to have a lot of features that I used to have to jailbreak for, implemented straight into the OS.

I have done it once, on my iPod Touch 4th generation. It I guess is cool, but it does get so many glitches if you messed up once or twice. I definitely recommend jailbreaking a device that is more older, not the one you use on a day to day basis.Sometimes jailbreaking can really mess up your device, so that's why I waited a while to do it.

In my opinion Rooting is a must on android. I rooted my android a few months back and am amazed by the extra customizable features it brings. I install CyanogenMod 11 on my lg optimus g pro and am amazed by the performance. Putting a ROM on your android is a must if you are rooted. The only downside to rooting is you are voiding your warranty and you cannot turn back after it has been done, Plus you run the risk of "bricking" your phone while installing a ROM which is a REAL pain if it happens.

Jailbreaking an iOS device is much easier than rooting an Android device, but comes with risks. Once your jailbroken, you done, BUT, you have a high chance of bricking/banning you iPhone. Rooting your Android is much harder, being that you have to find the right firmware version, right android version and so on, but once your rooted, you most likely wont be banned.

Now I can use Link2SD which is vital because the phone has a 1GB chip, which is used half for RAM and storage so I have a 1/2 GB for everything on internal memory, which is taken up mostly by the OS. And the clunky boot and shutdown animations from T-Mobile. I definitely love the functions of root and when I get my Nexus 6 I will be rooting it. Not as often as I used to. Up until iOS 5 from iPhone OS 2 I had every version jailbroken at all times on all my devices and a condition to update was if the newer system was jailbreakable. Ever since iOS 7, I kind of ditched jailbreaking. I had it jailbroken for a while, then I realised I really didn't need anything jailbreaking provides. There still is some really cool stuff available by jailbreaking but personally I don't find it to be enough of a reason to jailbreak and wait months before updating to make sure a jailbreak is available.

I want to root my Android because of the cool features you can have, but the thing is my dad told me if you do root or jailbreak, it voids your contract with you phone company, and that dosn't sound like a good thing

I've had 3 Android phones and one tablet, rooted all of them the same day I got them, can't deal without root. So for Android IMO it's definitely worth rooting if you're at all technically-minded (it's crazy easy these days). My main reasons for rooting were increased battery life and performance through ROMS that had no manufacturer bloatware. There are also cool root-only apps such as AdBlockers, XposedFramework etc. that can do all kinds of really useful stuff... but that's secondary to me. I'm getting an iPad Mini 2 soon because the Nexus 9 isn't sold in my country and importing it is really expensive.
BTW I realise Rooting and Jailbreaking are two very different things, rooting takes an already open platform and opens it up even further by granting write access to the system partition. Jailbreaking takes a completely closed OS and opens it up slightly. I'm pretty sure even an unrooted Android phone has more customizeability than a Jailbroken iPhone. But that remains to be seen when I get my iPad

Based on your statements rooting and jailbreaking are the same .DUMB ASS

You're so dumb and ignorant. Jailbreak allows more, you can change any app's behaviour, including Apple's, to what you want!

RN allows more? really... So you can swop out Apple's build of iOS for a third-party developer's build of iOS? Change the behavior of apps all you like, you're still in Apple's OS. With custom ROMS such as Cyanogenmod you can completely remove all ties to Google, if you so choose. Look it up, choice, it's something iOS users aren't used to. Jailbreaking certainly does not allow more than rooting.
ecalray Where did you get that from? The part where I specifically say I realize they are different...?

      @NLS87 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Pieter Rossouw you can remove all ties with Google, and then most Apps won't work.

You said rooting opens up an open os further and jailbreak opens up closed os.. They jusy both open up extra features on both OS, dumb ass ... They just both opens up! But one is called rooting and the other is called jailbreak.. Disregard the OS ! They have specialty on their own .. It doesnt matter if ios is closed and android is not, they (jailbreak and rooting) just both open more acces.. DUMBASS

I jailbreak. Depending on the device, I sometimes to it multiple times. I've had my iPhone 5s for over a year and jailbroke it 2 days ago. I always wait a little to see wether or not to jailbreak. In most cases I find a reason to do so. It is helpful, because you can customize your device a lot more and save money on some things like apps and in app purchases.

Jailbreaking definitely worth it. I jailbreaked my iPhone 5 for few months and it was awesome. Just keep in mind that malware and viruses could easily infect your device.

I don't as I'm worried about breaking my phone or do something that I'm not meant to. This is normally what most average people would say as they don't know enough to be confidant in doing jailbreak or adding different ROMs and so on.

I jailbreak all my apple products, it adds MANY features that apple has not implemented. Simple things like the ability to see your battery life on a iPod is crazy that apple never implemented it.

I jailbroke my iPhone on iOS 10.2 with a semi-tethered jailbreak -> gets unjailbroken with every powering off the device - and even when the jailbreak isn't active it is still pretty unstable

I once rooted my Xperia Play because there was 2 games that followed with it that you normally couldn't remove.

Jailbreaking is just fine. As long as you don't wanna show off and download 298384757583910103 tweaks. Also loom what tweak you download, it usually comes with warnings.

I think jail breaking is ok. It went to court and said " it's your device you can do what you'd like "

After rooting my galaxy s3 mini i couldn't believe the amount of customizations and tweaks available. But I didn't root my phone for a long time because i was afraid of bricking it. Only after months of looking up rooting information(mainly from XDA website) did I have the confidence to try it. AnI am glad I did. The tweaks that increase battery life has helped a lot.

I have not experienced the benefits of rooting an Android device. I used to help my dad jailbreak his iPod.
