Being an Army vet that was stationed in Alaska, I know which store he's referring to in the story. On base there's typically a military exchange for us it was the PX, has restaurants, tactical stores, a grocery store and the main store that's like a smaller condensed Walmart. One portion of the store has a section full of watches/sunglasses, mine was in the middle of the store. I know this because I personally bought 2 G shocks during my time in the Army. Just had a small laugh reminiscing of being in the military and always loathing seeing those damn MPs (Military Police). Love to hear these stories.

This is crazy, I literally have this exact story at the same age (14). The only difference is that I had to go to court. Because I was a good kid, they didn't charge me as an adult and never stayed on my record. And I too got community service.

This here's a simple case of a teen stealing something with generally good intentions and a victimless crime. So it's an overall good thing, the watch was returned, and an important lesson was learnt.
Stealing no matter what is a bad thing! It’s a sin! No matter how serious, you’re taking something without permission that a lot of other people are earning money for and working hard for!
That's very true. But let's remember they were teens and stole only to not make his mom sad. The watch was returned. It's an honest mistake and a good life lesson.

Just a thought, there’s the fact that he decided to steal because he knew his mom was gonna freak out. I’m not saying his mom is a bad mom, I am not saying that at all, but I think for those of us who have or will have kids, we shouldn’t have our kids fear us. Especially over a materialistic thing that got stolen and it wasn’t even his fault that it got stolen. For all we know, the watch had a warranty or she would try and convince her son to save money to get another. The fact that he thought his mom would freak out and that’s why he decided to steal is an issue. And it’s so common for kids at that age to do bad things in fear that their parents will freak out that they broke something or something got stolen or damaged, or that there’s just no trust overall. We should do better in not freaking out over materialistic shit is where I’m getting at. Because at the end of the day, yes you just bought it for your kid yesterday, but shit happens and there’s honestly no reason to freak out over it.

Listening to Jay’s life stories is actually interesting makes you look back and think about similar situations you’ve been in
I remember in one of Jay's videos from a few years back, he mentioned (or hinted) that he was arrested. I'm glad I finally get to hear the story. I actually really like the lesson at the end as well. I think it's very important to learn from your mistakes and I love how Jay is passing this lesson onto his fans :).

There would have been 3 ways for Jay to get out of that situation 1 tell his mom of what happened to his watch. 2 call the police and create and distraction so he would escape with the watch and not get caught and 3 he could have went in to hiding and his friend got caught instead of him and run away with the watch with no consequences
