If you've seen any of my videos about historic circuits, you'll have heard me lament the lack of pre-war cars in Assetto Corsa. This is very much a first world problem of course. But, given the sheer number of mods available for the sim, you would have thought more than a couple would have filtered through. Whatever the case, this one a beaut.

Is it me or does everyone find his voice really relaxing
Drove it on the 1967 version of the Nürburgring a few minutes ago - well, I tried to. What an insane machine. Probably took me about 10 attempts to even complete a lap of the Südschleife part.
Amazing job by Gary - this car once again shows why he's one of my favourite mod creators!
Agreed! I thought about running it around Feldberg, but getting a couple of clean laps for the video may have been a challenge in such a short space of time ;)
I recently read "Enzo Ferrari: A Life" by Richard Williams and it made me realize the amazing richness of pre-war motorsport. I couldn't help but lament that there are no simulators where I can tear up the streets of Pescara in an Alfa-Ferrari Tipo B. Drifting right up to a storefront in VR, fighting wheel-to-wheel with Nuvolari would be a spiritual experience.

We need a pre-war/50s sim...Spirit of Speed 1937 is 20 years old, Gran Prix Legends is 20+ years old
@@mattmattmatt131313 Well the good news is that scratch-built pre-WWII car mods are on the up; Mantasisg and AphidGod have worked together on the Mercedes-Benz W125, the latter providing a physics update to bring it in line with the Auto Union Type C, just a couple days ago a user by the name of Fourty-Too put out the 1927 Delage 15S8 as the most recent mod release, but far and away the biggest contrubutor has been Nicecuppatea - with *six* Grand Prix cars all from the 1923 Tours race.
There's still a lot of history left to immortalise but we now at least have a decent grid of nine cars for pre-WWII Formula Libre.

Downloaded it last night just before bed. Will try it out today, and agree 100% that Jimmy B needs to take it around the Ring. That should be a entertaining monologue whilst he drives.

This car was an engineering marvel, and aesthetically unmatched at the time it was produced. Just brilliant.
Even with it’s kinda dark history, this thing is a beast.

Damn, even for such an early release in the mods lifecycle it already looks incredible! That speedometer is so nice, I wonder if the mod developer plans on adding in the Type-C Streamliner "World Record Attempt Car".......

@@garypatersonschannel There is an Avus track from that timr available at the side from legion. Well it doesn't look well, but the long straight and the 45 Degree Banking are insane, even with the ERA. Anyway merry Christmas :)

How does this one compare to the Mercedes W125 mod that's kicking around? That one also has insane amounts of torque pushed through tyres with basically no grip at all and from your description of the Auto Union, sounds like drives in a similar way
I've not spent a lot of time with that mod, since IIRC it was abandoned, so I don't feel great about using it in a video. That being said it's very much in the ballpark.

Chris Haye The Merc was updated semi-recently, I helped do some suspension animations for it :)
IMO they're both very challenging to drive, even in a straight line. When I do get a clean lap with the W125 it is incredibly satisfying. I'm pretty sure it was updated a couple months ago so hopefully he will continue to improve it.

I'm not sure if it's the same mod, but the Type C mod has an insane suspension, it's so well done! Hats off to the modders, it's such a good mod!

Not to be controversial, but didn't these things have the flag of Nazi Germany on its side? That little add-on would be a nice skin imo for history sake.
Ronin The majority of my reference material is from restored museum pieces, so things like tyre treads (and absence of nazi references) match those. People are free to add skins if they like but yeah, its not something I’ll be adding.

There might have been such markings at some time or other, but national insignia are not evident on the cars in the actual races, in these clips from 1937.
