my shi broke
Twoset fan here! Thanks for teaching me.😁😁
I went from crying trying to tune my e string without breaking it to easily being able to tune it.Thank you so much!
That's a very helpful video, and a good idea to lay the string against the wall in the box, so it helps pushing the peg in direction to the center by itself. Clever! Thanks.
thanks for the tip, I'll try this with that one peg that has been driving me crazy this week.
My G peg is driving me crazy😒😒
My E peg is out of control :(
@@muskanchoradia me too😭
@@muskanchoradia same 😰🙏
actually was surprised when i fixed my peg thanks to this video. now i can finally start practicing
2:05 How can you tune so quickly it takes me like ten minutes 😂
Over 30 years of practice 🎻🙂
You get pretty good at it after a while.
Also if the pegs fit well and are lubricated correctly it can be much easier.
Keep at it... You will get faster after some time 🙂
@@AskOlaftheViolinmaker over 30 years, huh? Dang, that's a really long time!
And hopefully I will get better, that would sure make playing a lot easier!
@@AskOlaftheViolinmaker you use what to lubricate it; last time I change my string, the peg box is so loud
10 minutes? bruh ive tried for 13 hours the past 7 months and wasnt successful
today it took me an hour because it was my first time 😳
Very helpful. After unusually hot weather here in the UK my pegs were not holding the tune. Your help resolved this. Thanks
Thanks!!! Nice to hear from a proper luthier. This is a big help.
Omg. Life saver!!!! Was ready to throw in the trash..!!!! LEGEND!
Just broke my third string
2 Ds and 1 A
I love this instrument 😄
Love this sarcasm 😂
Thank You Olaf! Now I'll look like a real hero to my granddaughter! 😃
OMGGG
me and my Father was Struggling to tune and now your vid saved my dayyy!
THANK YOU SO MUCHHHH
thanks i have two pegs that are slipping on mine at the moment now that i have time to practice i can do something about them now.
Oh my goodness. Thank you so much
THANK YOU! That was a ton of information without turning it into a fifteen minute video.
i love that angle where you came in from the corner
Thanks Olaf, helps a lot
I play piano and I love watching your videos
Cheers Olaf , you video helped to spot out my slipping pegs .
would you please do a video on violin tailpieces? like installation as well as measurement etc? just in case if we can't go to a luthier right now
It’s hard! How long did it take you when you first experienced that? I’m getting worried if I need to buy a new one
Thank you!!
Thanks, this was very helpful.
I did the same thing as you said but the pegs are still slipping
thank u sm!! ur the best❤️
My pegs are tight. They are so tight I can barely move them to tune, by the time I have enough torque to make the peg move, it moves too much. So then I'm back and forthing to try to get the string in tune.
I've also noticed that as I pizz or bow across the notes are changing slightly. I rarely get right on with my tuner because of this. Any suggestions? Is it just time to take it back to the luthier? Lut
might need peg-paste or just take it to a luthier for refitting pegs
Yeah, I took my violin to the luthier. I have wimpy wrists. He said they were fine, he did loosen them slightly for me.
Oh, and he explained the tuning issue I was having - the bow adds weight to the strings and the weight changes the tuning. So simple, but I would never have figured it out for myself.
Ah, I see. You wind the string so that it pushes the peg into the peg box providing extra friction? Is that it? Genius. Cheers.
I used chalk, worked well on a banjole that had slipping pegs, don't use talc.
Only peg with an E string slips for me and it didnt work.
Hello Sir,,, I have a violin peg shaper (from Wish),but when I turn the peg right he will al little broken....what do i do wrong
kind regards from the Netherlands
Thankyou so much for your advice!
can you make a video of "How to replace the pegs on the violin"?
Useful❤
Thank you
Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏
Thank you so much!!!
So I got an old violin from my great grand mother and its a Médio-Fino violin, the pegs face downward and I was wondering if you could tell me about them
Thank you this worked
Done all this but my two thin strings still come loose.
My violin's string broke last month and thankfully it was mended
Just bought a brand new electric violin with natural 4/4 body. The pegs doing the same. Should the peg slip happen to a brand new violin.
I got Wittner Gear pegs and life is great
I can't peg
Oh. I thought I would apply little rosin.
I just bought German arpeggione. Was it a big thing, arpeggione, in Germany? In 50's. It's totally addictive. Meanwhile I am still waiting for my viola/lira certificate. She is still with experts rather than with me. She passed the dendro though, I haven't seen the papers yet.
Hi, this video was super helpful! I was able to get three pegs to stop slipping. However, the E string isn’t long enough to wind up against the peg box, so no added friction. Do you have any temporary fixes until I can go to a luthier?
Hello, same problem here. Were you able to find a way to fix it?
@@nilexx2379 My friend's mother teaches violin. She recommended chalk on the peg--worked a dream! With COVID still being a big issue, I'm happy enough with this solution for now.
@@ChrisLaFey I'm so happy that it worked for you. I've tried the same as well but no luck, turns out I haven't pushed them hard enough;) anyway have a wonderful day
@@ChrisLaFeyi used to use something called peg dope.
What if the opposite is the case. So you can't really properly turn them slowly but they always jump?
Oh my god I think this is the issue. Just today I was checking up on my violin to make sure it was tuned and it wasn't! I reset the pegs and fine tuners and every time I tuned the other strings came loose for no reason!
Hi olaf.. Hope you well. Please help me why my violin on g string low, when i played it its going change the tone /picth. Its going flat what is going on it?
Thank you, sir!
Olaf what do I do for tight pegs ? It doesn't move smoothly and it make creaking sound and gets stuck at certain notes.
Does this man have an eye tracker in his camera?
I tried this and my violin broke thank alot
It worked for me omg
My violin was left in storage for a year and now it won't stay in tune, what do I do?
It's worth getting it serviced...
It's probably a problem with the pegs...
You can also look up my peg videos
I have an opposite problem on the pegs, I got an older violin and it's pegs keep getting stuck and it's making it difficult to tune because I have to use brute force to make it move either way.. Please do you know how to fix this or what might be causing the issue in the first place?
Hi Minz, It is either that you need to apply peg-paste, or your peg needs refitting. Sometimes the weather can expand the peg and make it stick as well.
@@AskOlaftheViolinmaker thank you very much for answering!
I put some (dry) soap but that's possibly a brute solution lol (works like a charm tho)
My string broke
Tried this too, its nit working...its gonna make me cry now!!!! 😢
You might need to get your pegs refitted...
This only works if the pegs and holes are round.
Maybe talk to a violinmaker in your area.
Easy fix, use superglue.... AAARGHHH...BANG... CRASH... Olaf faints and hits the floor LOL.
I got to 2:14 and then decided to do all strings at once, if only I had watched the bit afterwards 🤦♂️
i recently found an old violin lying around in my house and decided to get some strings to put on it. However, after getting some of the strings on, the pegs began slipping persistently and i couldnt find a solution online. I tried chalk powder, rewinding, etc and nothing helped. I dont know what i'm doing wrong 😥
Same. Tried putting chalk powder and rewinding it like the video instructed but the pegs are still slipping... :(
@@CDrew-eo5lt real bummer because I was so excited to learn how to play and then i had this dilemma and havent touched it since
Push the peg in as you turn it. That's what I've done.
@@diegoserrato4016 Did that. Sadly, didn't work.
@@diegoserrato4016 If you push them in over time you'll expand the hole, then the same problem will happen again but worse
It broke the bottom of the string. Thanks for breaking my violin :’)
My pegs are SO STIFFFFF
my pegs
keep on slipping
You might need to go to a violinmaker to check how well the pegs fit.
This video taught me nothing. At all. You basically pointed the camera at the tubing pegs and told me to turn them. No shyt man. The pegs don’t hold.
Its because people use steel strings on violins with wooden pegs
Thank you!!
Thank you.
