As an old para my shoulders hurt just watching you transfer. Wish I had preserved my shoulders better when I was young and dumb. Thanks for sharing your great videos.
Mad respect for you...for your power to accept all that you deal with and finding a way. Inspirational ❤. Design flaws on an air seat/cushion for simple occurrences of toileting mishaps is unacceptable. That's the whole point of their demographic.
You do a great job. I’m very impressed with your skills. I’m also impressed with your ability to teach so fluidly and correctly. Keep up the good work you’re doing and don’t be ashamed to ask for help. You have to preserve your body and prevent injury. I say this because I had a torn tendon and a torn bicep. It’s life-changing in the worst way.
Thank you for the tip by using the bath Matt never thought on using that I had the same problem as yourself leaking I got Botox and so far it’s a good job Thame care safe travels
I can't imagine trying to squeeze between that glass door and the wall... I can just about manage a normal bath with no obstructions, but even that is tough on the shoulders.. Very well done you!.. (Phil - UK)
Great video on tub transfers. Just wanted to tell you to think about a Superpubic Cath. I've been T-6 para for 26 years. I've had a Superpubic for two years almost exactly. Made a huge difference in my life. I did all the self cathing and used a Foley sometimes. It's really easy to take care of and you won't have to worry about peeing yourself even if there is a UTI. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer for you.
I’m having some health issues with my joints, but we had a family trip planned for New York City. This th-cam.com/users/postUgkxuxJwamLFanm476LC5WPeTouyyU1GXomC was perfect! It’s lightweight enough that my friend could carry it up or down stairs when we needed to. (I can walk very short distances) It was comfortable for me to sit in, I would say if you’re super tall it might be a little cramped. I’m 5’1” and the foot rests were the perfect height. This may not be the best one for long term use, you get what you pay for, but for something that fits our budget that gives me accessibility while we deal with my health this was amazing.
Impressive, I just don't have the strength to get off the floor of the bath. Curious though, why don't you lock the wheels to prevent the chair shifting back when you are transferring. I always lock my wheels. Maybe there is an advantage I don't know about?
Good quality garden gloves should be part of a gear bag for your chair. Use on your hands for confident grip. Stuff under wheel to keep the chair from rolling. I use something that helps. You might try flaxseed oil. Saw Dr. Oz work with a patient who got up at night. Determined that the bladder was not fully emptied, few minutes later, another urge to go. Flaxseed oil works, boy. In the end, it’s chutes and ladders…the straw-like structures become jagged, no longer smooth. The oil works. I took a cap every other day, if I forgot, it would come right back again. Sleeping through the night is great.
Extra seat cushions and covers are always good for people who use wheelchairs. Wash one then use the spare cushion. You can take 2 cushions on road trips I have four cushions and five seat covers. You can order from the medical supply place direct it’s cheaper than going through your insurance. I hope you find this helpful and not offensive.
@@ProTipsForParas Oh I’m so sorry what a terrible dilemma. I’ll keep you in prayer. Take it easy on your self. You’ve proven that you’re self-sufficient and independent. Ask for help. To spare your self and prevent injury. Keep up the good work you’re doing. You’re doing great and you help a lot of people. You explain things that the doctors and nurses do not explain or even think of. I guarantee they use your videos to help patients.
UK here. Peripheral nerve damage. I cannot get my seat cover off, and if somehow I did I would never get it back on. I wipe with a wet wipe from time to time. Another thing is bed sheets. Cannot get them on the bed properly now i am disabled.
Never used a shower chair/bench the first...IDK...25 or so years. Now my shoulders are so 'shot' there is no way unless I throw in a couple of boat cushions to help me get out :). Should have done proper strength training and range of motion with my shoulders/arms.
I just finished the game operation with a surgeon. I ain't not never going to the hospital again. He killed the patient 5x to my 4. Also, I kind of figure I should maybe sortakinda tell folks my right ear is dead & left doesn't work all that great. He got tired of repeating himself.
This is a rather odd question I know, however my niece is doing a report on SCI's. She's reading about the skier Jill Kinmont. Do they still put you in traction for a month after your injury?
I wasn't in traction for a month only through my surgery. I know quadriplegics who have been in the past, but no paras. And I'm not certain about todays practices

Why don’t you put a stainless steel grab rail , make sure they’re attached to the studs , and another one outside the bathtub , so you can grab them as you exit or enter the tub.
Wouldn’t it be easier if you had a shower chair or no. But that’s a good tip though even though I’m not paralyzed, I have cp but trying to learn new ways to be independent
A shower chair wouldn't work with the glass sliding door. I need a tub bench that extends with a piece over the lip and am not able to transfer onto a shower seat in the tub
I do, everyday. I had peed not even 30 minutes before having another accident when the shower was already planned, so I didn't take the time to put a new one on.

My body is healthy and I don't want to risk any bladder backups into the kidneys. Maybe one day. I do know many people with the supers who like them
@@ProTipsForParas Have you ever tried botox?

This was me today. Had to go from chair to shower bc my bladder sucks lol
Where did you find your mini roho for the bottom of the tube? That’s a great idea!
It's called the Roho Adaptor - I think they have discontinued this actual model now, but have replaced it with sometime similar

My old cushion was better, didn't soak through and could be used without the cover (a RIDE, which I loved) It's too wide for my new chair though

Please email protipsforparas@gmail.com to clarify what you are asking.
I prefer to remove the bathtub and use a sink, and it is possible to enter the chair better and safer

The chair is new and I did't have them yet. I've since put them on (noted in the video description).
A wheelchair with brakes is safer to use in the bathroom and there is still the danger of slipping.

Is peeing your pants the worst thing about being paralyzed?
No, barriers put in the built environment by unaware people who see no value in accessibility is the worst - it beat shitting my pants in public.
