Chapter 9: The Cause of Sorrow
Battle: Salvation at the Chapel
Battle starts at: 3:28.
Welcome to the Chapter 9 mission. Another simple one that pits us against several Demonic Beasts. Unlike the ones in Sothis's Paralogue, though, these ones come with full shields and will not summon more reinforcements.
You have some students you must save by defeating the beasts that are attacking them. They can't be one-hit killed with their attacks and carry Elixirs with them, so there's not as much rush as you might think. Bring some Physic users to keep them healthy and also to help Jeralt!
I think this mission is best handled by splitting up and taking one group left and the other right. That way you can rush to save the students at the corners of the map.

How naive I was back then…
Jeralt, piece of advice for the future:
If you want to talk to your kid about something, do so at the next opportunity instead of waiting a few days until you get a new mission assigned. Might work a little better for you.
I feel like the end-of-month mission structure presents a weakness in terms of plot development. It would have made more sense to simply have the mission happen sometime during the month and the rest of the month being free for regular activities. It would also shift the pause in between story events from something happening and Byleth lazing about for the entire month before resolving it and immediately have something happen again to resolving the issue and a new issue arising after a time.

I don't get why did Monica have to make an appearance at 6:20, what's the purpose? If they didn't show her face, I wouldn't know who was behind this but they totally ruined it with the random Monica's face.
I agree. I guess they just wanted to show you that Monica was amongst the trapped students? But the intended effect is lost on the execution.
It would’ve worked better if Monica looked sad or cried out for help, to better convey the idea that she was among the students calling for help.

It’s cool to see where we differ on this route! On this mission I went straight and left with my two groups.
Did you bench caspar? My Caspar ended up kinda slow but his strength was top notch. His speed wasn’t slow enough to bench tho and his personal ability came in clutch many times.
Who’s your favorite unit so far?
I won't bench any of the BEs, but the low deployment numbers make Caspar and Bernie sit out more missions than they should. I always have them as adjutants, at least.
So far my favorite unit in this playthrough is Edelgard, that Darting Blow helping her one-round a lot of enemies is incredible. But my overall favorite unit and character in the game is Lysithea. Too bad she's not turning out so great in this playthrough but she's still immensely useful.
