    I cannot tell you how much your videos are appreciated. First, it’s heartwarming to see how compassionate and kind you are with all your animals. To know each one by name? So very sweet. They are very lucky to be with you. Secondly, I am recovering from 7 weeks of radiation for breast cancer and am so fatigued I can’t make it outside. After watching this video, I felt I was outside and part of the farm and my spirits were lifted. If you ever wonder whether your videos are important or have an impact……they do! Thank you. I cannot wait for my next virtual visit to your farm. A hug to you and all the lovely goat mamas!

    What a beautiful idyll, sunshine, happy mom goats and sugar-sweet baby goats 🌞 I always have to smile when the babies wiggle their tails while drinking,bleating in front of you and treating mom's udder like a punching ball 🙈 I hope that doesn't hurt too much,for the mothers. As with a predator feeding🤣 Everyone wants to get it first 🙂 Your goats are simply magical and beautiful ❤ I wish you and your goats a nice Sunday 🦋 It's already evening with me.

    I grew up on a dairy farm (cows). I don’t know much about goats, except they sure are cute and have lots of personality. I had no idea that the babies were fed, what I would call community style, instead of a staying in the field and nursing from its mother. That a lot of goat lifting! I enjoy watching all your goats. Thanks!

    Does the baby goat "punching" the udder hurt momma goat? I love seeing the baby goat feeding. Adorable, so cute.

    • @woodsidegoatfarm
      @woodsidegoatfarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, the mama's don't like it. If they're really full, they wont feed them on their own because it hurts too much. It's just frustrating, because they almost never actually need to do it. They do it to get more milk in the teat, and to get every last drop. But if I just put them on a mom that's bursting full, all they need to do is put their lips on there and they're getting a mouth full of milk. No need to lift that poor mama's back legs off the ground by punching a teat that's so full, it feels like a pumped up basketball😂 JUST DRINK. And then they're sad when mom doesn't want to feed them.. little dummies.

    • @woodsidegoatfarm
      @woodsidegoatfarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a few different reasons. The way we have things set up though, and with the quantity, the babies end up more social when they arent reliant on their mama at their side. If we had fewer babies, we could put mama and babies in a smaller pen, but we don't need to. They do just fine separate. And this way, the mama's don't get shut into a smaller pen. Doing so wouldn't kill them, but it's nice to have them out with the herd if they can be.

    Why are the babies separated from their moms???

    • @SassyGirl822006
      @SassyGirl822006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are several reasons:
      1) tameness, you get tamer goats if they aren't raised by mom. This is important not just for the does, who might go to milk farms, but especially bucks who if staying inact can be very aggressive during breeding season. Having the babies become calm and relaxed around people makes far easier and safer to handle.
      2) health of the babies. If the mom's go out to large pastures it can be hard to make sure the babies are getting enough to eat and keep track of their general health and welfare. Like with many other animals, baby goats can go down hill with illness very quickly, and it's easier to catch these things if they're in a smaller pen where they can be watched easier.
      There are other reasons too, depending on what kind of farm it is. But this doesn't cause any harm to the animals, so it's not really an issue.

    Why not to keep baby goats with their moms? You don't milk them, so what's the point to separate?

    You should give it a bath lather it up until it’s dripping with soap until the soap suds runs down your forearms

    Your great the way you talk to your girls. That's a unique way to feed the babies.. I'm glad breast feeding human babies isn't like that..

    How come the mamas don’t stay with babies and nurse as needed?

    • @woodsidegoatfarm
      @woodsidegoatfarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The babies stay healthier, it's good for them socially, and it helps us keep an eye on them when we have to get our hands on every baby multiple times a day.

    Does goat poo smell more like dog poo or cow manure?

    • @woodsidegoatfarm
      @woodsidegoatfarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really doesn't have much of a smell. I'd say most of their stink is from urine, but if they're well kept, then it's not bad at all. You can smell cows from quite a distance, but i think you could be in the field with our goats with your eyes closed and ears plugged, and not even know you were on a farm. That may also be because I'm used to it😂 The same can't be said for bucks though. They're real stenchy.

    Use a long trough rather than dump the feed in a pile on the ground.

    I don’t know anything about goat farming so I don’t quite understand what’s going on. Could you give us a higher-level view of your operation?
    This is a petting zoo, not a dairy operation, but the kids appear to be kept separate from the nannies.
    They sleep together in the barn, presumably for protection. Nannies wouldn’t protect their kids if they were all in a secure enclosure together overnight?
    Even during the day the kids are penned in and only see the nannies at feeding time, and the nannies have to be on a stanchion to feed them. And they feed any kid you give them.
    Except you said that this was a special deal just for the kids who need extra and the nannies who have extra. That mostly the kids just nurse when they’re with their moms. But they aren’t with their moms???

    • @woodsidegoatfarm
      @woodsidegoatfarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      We keep the kids separate for a number of reasons. One of the big ones being that they're much easier to keep track of when the babies are all kept under our watchful eye. It's easier to see when they're sick, or not eating. If they had free range of the 5 acres with mom, doing headcounts, and healthchecks on the babies becomes more challenging.
      And as for your last question, they do feed on their own when they see their mama's. They aren't always with their mama's, but when I let the mama's in the feed their babies the four times a day, they are. That's when I put the babies that need it up on the milk stand on a mom with some extra milk. The babies that don't need help have about a half an hour to get what they need.

      @@woodsidegoatfarm,
      Another question: feeding four times a day is enough, so does that mean that even very little kids are eating solids?
