Thanks for this helpful video! I think there is definitely a balance when choosing these courses. You want to prepare your child for college opportunities, but at the same time, high school isn't college. I appreciate your perspective!
We used Apologia Physical Science this year in a class. My daughter found the notebooking journal very helpful. We are going to do Apologia Biology at home next school year with the notebooking journal. There is space in the journal to write the lab reports and that is helpful.
I think we are going to do Greg Landry's homeschool science membership this next year for all my boys, since it's a family membership. They have a college prep and life prep class selection. I like they have a virtual lab. I mentioned in another video of yours but we enjoyed Shormann's Earth Science for my son's 8th grade year, BUT I would probably not use it again. It was VERY intensive, but it's a good class. Apologia is ok, but man it's so dry to me.
I am always looking for high school curriculum ideas and others' thoughts! Thank you. My oldest who graduated a couple years ago used Shorman Biology and still talks about her displeasure with it to this day! She says it was the overwhelming vocabulary and the long lectures. She did BJU for Chemistry and liked that one fine. I am trying to figure out something for my 9th and 10th graders next year. May look at doing the General Science 101! We are doing the Biology 101, but I don't really know how to record a grade for her for that one for the transcript. Any advice?
Grading is hard- because I added some reading and doing labs differently) You need to remember to calculate in not just the quizzes but their work they did outside of that like books read and labs done., reports. (What schools call “class participation “😉)
Thank you for this ladies! My daughter is really not liking Apologia Exploring Creation for chemistry and I was considering switching her to Shormann Chemistry because of the digital lab and auto grading mainly. I wonder if I should reconsider if it's going to be too tedious for my upcoming senior.
I am realizing never responded to this. I hope you have been able to finalize something😉 The shorman chemistry is very deep. Something else to consider is the Masterbooks now has labs online for HS sciences😉
I am not sure if this would be related to your homeschool but, when you get a chance, are you be able to share some AP science course options for Christian homeschools as well? Thank you for the video. This was greatly helpful.
@@evegem8978 I would say the 101 series - I think you can print off requirements free. I also think Masterbooks, especially now that they have videos for lab😉
I also commented on another of your videos but I will make the same comment here as it may be helpful to others. Science Shepherd Chemistry and Physics are not full HS courses. They will not prepare the student for university studies. Biology is a full course. I learned this recently when I emailed the curriculum producers for more information.
Thank you so much for sharing Jennifer!! I did not talk to them directly but going by what is said on the site and my own thoughts on the samples given. It does seem to indicate it can be used for Highschool but like you said it would not prep you for college science. That is important to note so I am leaving this link so others can see what is said😉 Again thank you!! scienceshepherd.com/blogs/science-shepherd-homeschool-curriculum/recommended-course-progression
Have you been able to compare apologia to berean builders and found differences in beliefs? I know the original writer for apologia said the new owners and he had differing beliefs that had been put into the books (as well as what we believe) and wanted to know what differences you had seen
Hey I do remember looking that situation up. I don’t think they have changed much of the younger science books. We have used them but we do have older copies😊. The Apologia Biology seemed fine but I always questioned just in my mind the Chemistry and would have used Dr Wiles Chemistry. I will share a link that helped me understand that most of the problem he had was with the “what we believe”. Very interesting and you must read through the comments all the way to understand 😉 blog.drwile.com/i-no-longer-work-for-apologia-educational-ministries/
My thoughts if they have learned and progress, yes. Yes if followed as they have planned out. I felt comfortable changing the plans up a little to work for us and feel like he learned so much. 😉. Not sure you have had chance to watch my overview of Biology 101- th-cam.com/video/j5GVegC3glc/w-d-xo.html

I have not heard of Greg Landry’s science . Thank you for sharing!!! Appreciate hearing about different curriculums and perspectives 🤗

Any feedback on BJU?

I have not used HS BJU science. I have looked at book and definitely very thorough!
You can watch samples of videos.

None of my boys have done AP tests. I could give thoughts, but I think finding someone you know that has taken them would be the best. 😉
What is the link to the 101 series? The one linked in the comments also takes me to Dive Science.
I’m sorry- I just changed it. Thank you!!!
Here is the link the101series.com/
You mentioned you bought all of the 101 series DVD's used. Where did you find them?
I know I purchased from eBay. I may have bought one locally used🤔
Christian book distributors also has them for a much lower price 😉
So what are the real easy simple courses for highschool science because my son won’t be pursuing that after highschool

Did you think 101 series is enough for non science kids?
My thoughts if they have learned and progress, yes. Yes if followed as they have planned out. I felt comfortable changing the plans up a little to work for us and feel like he learned so much. 😉. Not sure you have had chance to watch my overview of Biology 101-

@Learning with Boys I'm adding some living biology books as well!
