It's past time for me to leave another comment here. Thank you so much for these wonderful videos! I was/am not the least interested in interior design; however, EVERYONE not onIy appreciates beauty, but needs to be surrounded by a pleasing aesthetic space, or we end up feeIing chaotic on the inside (often, without even realizing it). There aren't any other channels I watch on this topic, as Valentina aIways explains the hows & whys of what she's doing, and she splices in photos to SHOW exactly what she means. Due to some poor heaIth and worse choices, my housing may be tenuous, at best, soon. But I still Iove these videos and learning so much I didn't know about a topic I barely knew existed taught by possibly the most up-beat person on TH-cam. The viewers here are great too, adding awesome suggestions and aIways being friendly & kind.

I think short of putting it on graph paper for some people to visualize, people don't understand. BUT when you take away a 36" (3ft) walkway around the whole room, there really isn't that much interior space to be a room left in the center. Visually your room looks huge, but actual available space after a 36" walkway is much smaller. Her main camera angle doesn't show this, but at the 9:25 marker you can definitely see the room scale. I once had a similar floor plan, and had mine the same way. She keeps it uncluttered with less, but larger accessories. You are actually seeing the result of her brilliant advice, visually the room looks larger than the workable 10x14 space.

I think small is relative to where you live. Maybe in Atlanta thats a small livingroom haha. Ive hardly got room for a sofa and a chair and a little ottoman off to the side (plus small square coffee table) and im lucky I'm actually not just restricted to just a sofa like some people I know! I live in Vancouver BC and there are many big homes for the ultra wealthy but your average person is living in a condo. I live in an 1143 st ft loft and I feel extremely fortunate because I looked at a lot of real estate before choosing this home and yeah, it gets a lot smaller here!
Now all that aside - tips are great for all sizes of rooms you want to appear larger. The rug being as large as possible is seriously such a big one!

I'm sorry everyone keeps saying that you're lying!
People don't understand the actual living space vs walkways!
If that room was closed off with a wall and the walkway was actually a hallway, you wouldn't count it, so I don't understand why people keep saying they have to include the walkway lol
I agree, your room is on the "smaller" side but with your high ceiling, lack of walls, and all the design tricks you've utilized, it really makes it look much bigger (which is the point of the video 🤷‍♀️) I guess the fact that everyone keeps saying it's bigger than what you said means you've done a great job!
Anyway, awesome video! I am currently trying to expand my living room also (it's a 9x9 square 😬) We'll see how it goes.
Thank you for all the tips and tricks!🤗

I needed to see this so thank you! I have a console table between my wall and sofa. There is a heater vent back there and for a long time the sofa covered it. I have also put a bit of decor with a painting over it. I was afraid it might look too cluttered but seeing yours, (which looks beautiful!) I feel so much better! I use 2 end tables which I wish I didn’t need but I do. Also, My furniture is in an L shape…yes, the cardinal sin of matching furniture but I suck at getting the scale right. 😢. I would like to replace the ottoman with a coffee table but haven’t found one that works yet. The room is open and feels large but the tv and stand are against the same wall as the front door. It is a beautiful piece but the walkway crosses in front of it. Which I don’t mind as it opens up the room. ❤ So in a way, my focal point, would be the living room/sofa/painting above. I hate clutter, but love properly done decor so I get a little stressed if too much is out.

      @ellen9354 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Work with it, the focal point does not have to be in the centre of the wall. The key is to ensure it is done in a way that your eye goes there first. Consider highlighting the fireplace wall more by painting that a more dominant colour so that the TV side falls into the background.

@@CourtneeCae13 it still doesn't make sense. Mine is 11 x 17 and if I set two sofas up like that with a large coffee table like she has, you wouldn't even be able to walk through. From the ends of the sofa to the fireplace is still pretty roomy. MAYBE her measurement could be accurate if she's measuring from the back of one sofa to the other along with the length only of the sofas, but looking at my 11 x 17 LR doing that still wouldn't have as much space as she does

When we starting building our new home the print said the great room was 18 x 19. I started space planning, measuring furniture and laying it out to scale. I quickly realized the room is closer to 14 x 14 once I left room for foot traffic. It’s open to a hall going to the master suite, open to the foyer and backs up to the kitchen. So in reality furniture could only be placed in that grid of 14 x 14 to keep the flow open. V is fortunate to have the higher ceilings which is open to the stairs and hall above. All this keeps the eye moving, giving one the illusion of a grander space.

I've said it before but you are amazing at weaving your "pitches" into your segments!! So authentic and effervescent! Of course like everything else you talk about you wouldn't do it if it wasn't something you really did love! I know your "sponsers" must absolutely love YOU! They could spend a fortune on ad campaigns and not get the bang for the buck they do with you! Also, two other things...I checked out a book at the library (tons of great design books that help me decide if I want to buy it for my design library) that you would like. Its AT HOME, Evocative And Art Forward Interiors by Brian Paquette. Your palette, modern luxury design, just a very tantalizing tasteful decor tone. Lastly, you guys really dodged a bullet in Morocco! Horrible what happened there. Thankful you two were out of harm's way when it hit!! Thank you Lord! The one thing that I might do different if I had your living room was the fireplace surround needs to be white marble or some thing. Personally, I do not have a problem with a flat screen, wall hung TV on display. (apart from tv on white walls!).
I think has long has you put it on an equally dark wall, say above a well dressed mounted or freestanding well designed media cabinet or sideboard etc, (or, has I have done many times, hang the TV really low ie, at sofa sitting height and then add large art above it). This then gives off the complete opposite message, look and vibe...telling everyone it is not meant to be 'hidden' it becomes part of the room design.

Where did you purchase the new coffee table? Love the coastal look tied in with the rest of the room.

    Hello Valentina!
I grew up in a beautiful huge house in the 60s 70s
Your house and living room is huge in heights and those big window help! By the size or your rug and the sofas, i think you forgot your real mesurements! But my dream was nice to have it look like yours!😊

You are so good and informative and I was just curious if you had ever gone to Interior Design School or did you learn on your own? Thank you Valentina❤

Hi Valentina! I bing watch your channel and love it! My style is very similar with a little less black lol but I was wondering if you can talk about things like kitchen shelf liners, garage storage, and how you store the not so pretty things. If you can talk more about wood floors and tile that looks like wood, especially for open concept homes and the worry about wood floors in the kitchen due to water damage. I hope this can be a topic for your content :)

This video is what I need right now as I'm about to redesign and renovate our living room, so thank you so much for the tips!
I adore yours, you made such a great job! I love those four huge windows, it was a genius idea to the out the ceiling to achive the height and look. I wish Article would sell in Europe too because I'm in love with those gorgeous sofas with the marble coffee table tables....❤❤❤

My living room isn't that big either. My problem is that the fireplace is double-sided with the other side being a part of the dining area. I love my home, but I question the thought process of putting the fireplace on a half wall where it really can't be the focal point.

I have a long narrow open concept kitchen/dining/living room. I hate it! I had to get rid of my round kitchen table that was too big (but loved) for the dining area in this house. I still have a sectional that’s also too big that I need to replace. Working on building a mood board for my living room and on the hunt for great quality sofas that won’t wear down in a year or two after my child, spills, and the dog have touched it. I’m sick of buying sofas. Lol. Tips per budget range? We have a pottery barn but no crate and barrel or other places you mention. Buying online scares me.

I love all of your videos. They are so informational, and so many great tips that we can all apply to our homes. The struggle that I have personally is lighting, I have pot lights I have accent, lighting and fixed ceiling lights etc. etc. is it possible for you to make a video on what kind of lightbulbs to use in each of these light fixtures and rooms? Would love love love to have some help in this area. ❤❤❤

I am always inspired by your videos. In this video, you show us a shot of your former-styled living room with the large mocha leather chair; however, what I am interested in is the map over the fireplace (and is now in your work area over a buffet-style table) in that clip. Can you tell me where I can get your map or recommend maps similar to yours? Thanks....Anna
