"Old Jubilee" is called Abscissa and from a similar arc in the comics where she becomes enslaved after a whole bunch of things and jaded. She's voiced by the same actress that voiced Jubilee in the 90s cartoon! So she's an easter egg.
I love how they gave the new voice to an Asian actress and also honored the OG VA by giving them a meaty walk on. They did that with a bunch of the old VA's.
They didn't make it clear enough, but when Forge said he loves Storm, they had been living together for a whole month. Scott confirms that a month has gone by in the next episode. My only issue with the show is the rushed pacing. Some of the more tender moments don't have enough time to breathe.
One thing to consider is that these stories are very sped up, compared to the pace in the comics. So, when Forge goes "but I love you!" feels a bit rushed and out of place, here, but really they've spent a lot of time together and they've grown close. So it's perfectly normal for him to say so.
I think he loved her before he even met her, that's part of why he felt so strongly about wanting to help her. But maybe he's going from loving the idea of her, to actually loving her.

Magneto saying that if Jubilee trains, she will see many more birthdays is quite a prophetic thing to say, seeing that in many of the "apocalyptic" timelines Jubilee is often known as the last X-Man (don't let the flashiness of her powers distract you, the mechanics behind them actually make her *really* strong when controlled right).
Mojo is the villain in this episode. He was in the original series in the episodes that featured Longshot. He is the main hero that fights against Mojo. He likes making TV shows to keep his people entertained. He has his right hand woman, Spiral, transport the X-men to his dimension. Mojo is like the Jabba the Hutt of X-men villains.
The opening varies each episode. The named characters appear to be the current active X-Men. The scenes after are mostly reanimated scenes from previous seasons although they also include parts of the old opening reanimated or extra scenes from earlier episodes. In all, these scenes seem to set the mood for the upcoming episode in my opinion.

Yes, they are changing the opening nearly every episode to reflect the current lineup of the team, but also the snippets of previous stories they show are changing depending on the context of the episode
This episode pays homage to the classic X Men beat ‘em up games from back in the the day. Even The cartridge inside the Motendo is a direct homage to the Sega X Men game from the early 90s
Surprised Angela didn't catch that the Motendo was named after a Nintendo, but looks exactly like the Sega Genesis lol. But yeah, that second stage in the game was heavily referencing the Contra game. Even with the music. I grew up on this stuff.
I was right there with you, the old TMNT games were my first thought when I watched this episode. Boy did I play far too much of those. Just piling some extra nostalgia inside our nostalgia show 😆 Loving It. As a bit of a nod to the old show, the locations in the game here are a speed run of plot points from that series. One of my favorite comic book tropes is the "useless" powers are actually OP. Jubilee in the comics was mostly a joke until a writer decided the joke was that if she didn't hold back she would destroy the planet. Her and Dazzler are my favorite "I didn't know they could do that" characters. In one comic Dazzler's scared and jingling her keys to light up a dark alley; in another she's using Black Bolt to vaporize an Infinity Gauntlet wearing Thanos.
In the comic “The Resurrection of Magneto” issue #3, it is strongly suggested that The Adversary as well as The Shadow King (seen in the original animated series) and The Goblin Force (a supernatural evil power that empowers the Jean clone Maddy Prior/The Goblin Queen in the comics) along with a couple other evil forces are really all just different representations of the same powerful evil that is against mankind/life.
Don't know if I'm the only one who thought this, but: When the two Jubilees combined their attacks, it reminded me of Naruto Shippuden with the father/son Odama Rasengan. 🌀
I name my old cat after Mojo. But also after Mojo the helper monkey from The Simpsons. Not from Austin Powers, although it was fun when he would disappear and I would get to say, "I lost my Mojo." It was before Mojo the dog in the Transformers movie. I had the idea before that :p
The closest thing to the video game scenes with jubilee is the X-men arcade game that was 4 player in the arcades during the 90s with Wolverine dazzler, colossus, and cyclops

The "two guys with guns" video game could be a whole lot of things, but based on the other games you mentioned, I'd put money on it being Contra. By the way, the company that did the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat em up arcade game you brought up, Konami, also made an X-Men arcade game. It's definitely one of the main touchpoints for the Mojoverse game, and it might be fun to look up some gameplay on TH-cam to see what it was like. It's from the 80s so the X-Men costumes and roster are even more retro than they are in X-Men 97. Also, yeah, Mojo makes some appearances in the original show. You didn't really miss much, though, he's a very simple (but fun) and straightforward character.

The thing you have to keep in mind is goings into this genre, especially when regarding a cinematic interpretation of the xomic-source material is alot of liberties are tken by the studios telling the stories to (in a way) make their storytelling unique from the comicbook. Some stuff might make sense , some will not. What I CAN tell you is, is to take all this with a grain of salt - because even the cartoons (as close to the comics as they are) is still off a little bit. I like that Jubilee has matured in this series. She was so childish in the original series. Forge is the one who invented the time portal that brought Bishop to our time. Forge has dated Storm in the comics. If he is Storm’s love interest in the MCU I don’t mind that. I know fans wanted her to be with Black Panther but he is dead now so I am fine with her and Forge. He is also the leader of X-factor. The mutant team Scott’s brother Havoc is on.

Forge is like Tony Stark... if Tony Stark didn't have to worry about physics, material limitations, financial limit... wait... he doesn't have to worry about that... Essentially, if Forge can imagine a device, he can build it. But he wouldn't necessarily be able to explain why or how it works. Tony would be able to look at it and figure out the why and how though. If Forge and Tony ever became bros... One-Above-All help the Marvel multiverse...
Forge is still subject to those limitations; but his gift allows him to come up with the solution for those obstacles at the same time as the solution for his primary goal. Forge and Tony share a weakness that they can't always forsee new problems outside of what they are focusing on, or consequences of their choices that are affected by the rest of the world.
Thanks for that. Reading what I posted, I see I didn't quite get the message across that I had in my head. I guess a better way to say it is: Forge is like Tony Stark, but without the genius aspect. (Not to say Forge is dumb, just that he's not a genius). A more metaphorical way to put it might have been: If Tony Stark and McGuyver had a Love Child, it would be Forge.

Jubilee has never been even close to my top ten characters and I think Mojo is an annoying villain that I would be happy to never see again, but this episode was pretty decent. And the Storm/Forge section is very solid.
The last episode before my childhood innocence is irrevocably destroyed 😂 At least this one is fun as hell. Loved the aesthetics of the Motendo world which absolutely needs to be a real game. The Adversary was in the comics in almost this exact storyline - Storm loses her powers and she has to face her fears to get them back. Her 80’s Mohawk look actually comes from that story
Episode 4 is my least favorite in this season. It sounds like a silly spin off. But even so, it's very funny. Also, Brazilian here. Roberto actually says: "I don't even care. It's very dangerous here. I've to get out".

The Adversary is a very known villain popular in many many stories that everyone knows. You know him too, an ancient evil being that questions things, feeds on misery, and constantly makes everything go wrong. You just know him by his other name. In the Bible there are different beings, Lucifer, the angel that fell, and The Adversary, better known as the Hebrew name for him, "Satan" (literal translation is The Adversary). Many people sort of merge the two stories and think there's an angel that fell and became the devil, but are surprised to find out they're actually different beings! So Satan, also known as the devil, does not have wings or is angelic or any of the popular media things, this is even more accurate to how he is in the bible, questioning God about Job, Jesus in the desert, Eve in the garden. But marvel is smart and knew that if they straight up put Satan in the comics and the cartoons it would make many parents cry in uproar lol, so instead, "Here's a funny looking owl that calls itself the Adversary :X" So yeah, Lifedeath, the Arc where Storm literally confronts Satan lol... I mean *cough cough* The Adversary.
While appreciate that the Adversary is the being in the comic, I feel like his lack of history in the context of this show cause his appearance here less impactful and more confusing than i believe the writers intended. If you hadn't read the comic, this is a very serious heartbreaking story about self worth and regret, and then suddenly a demon is there to screw things up even more. If they needed an entity to suddnly be an outside antagonist that fed on their negative emotional state, they could have easily brought back the Shadow King. He has a history with Storm already estaished in the original series and is a mental parasite.
I just noticed the shorter hair results in a different wave. Fun. Can't say I was ever a fan of Jubilee, be it comic or cartoon, but this story wasn't bad (and didn't take up the whole episode). Can't blame Magneto for saying no, bbut they could've gone without him...
The opening does change with each episode, usually telling what will feature in the episode, usually based on episodes from the og series. The Advesary is from the comics, usually Forge's villian, but Storm was with him trying to figure out a way to get her powers back, too. Anything else I say could be spoilers, so zipping my lips. I'm definitely enjoying your reaction and looking forward to more.

For the record, Jen, "X-men the animated series" was for kids, "X-men '97" is not. It courts the same audience, but knows we have grown up.

This show really does get better every episode, it’s kinda insane.
Those shots with the sentinels were off of a real.game.
At least in the show Forge straight up told Storm he was behind the tech. In the comics, Storm found out by listening in on a phone conversation.

Jubilee has never been even close to my top ten characters and I think Mojo is an annoying villain that I would be happy to never see again, but this episode was pretty decent. And the Storm/Forge section is very solid.

At least this one is fun as hell. Loved the aesthetics of the Motendo world which absolutely needs to be a real game.
The Adversary was in the comics in almost this exact storyline - Storm loses her powers and she has to face her fears to get them back. Her 80’s Mohawk look actually comes from that story
Episode 4 is my least favorite in this season. It sounds like a silly spin off. But even so, it's very funny.
Also, Brazilian here. Roberto actually says: "I don't even care. It's very dangerous here. I've to get out".

I thought this episode is ok.
The Adversary is a very known villain popular in many many stories that everyone knows. You know him too, an ancient evil being that questions things, feeds on misery, and constantly makes everything go wrong. You just know him by his other name. In the Bible there are different beings, Lucifer, the angel that fell, and The Adversary, better known as the Hebrew name for him, "Satan" (literal translation is The Adversary). Many people sort of merge the two stories and think there's an angel that fell and became the devil, but are surprised to find out they're actually different beings! So Satan, also known as the devil, does not have wings or is angelic or any of the popular media things, this is even more accurate to how he is in the bible, questioning God about Job, Jesus in the desert, Eve in the garden. But marvel is smart and knew that if they straight up put Satan in the comics and the cartoons it would make many parents cry in uproar lol, so instead, "Here's a funny looking owl that calls itself the Adversary :X" So yeah, Lifedeath, the Arc where Storm literally confronts Satan lol... I mean *cough cough* The Adversary.
While appreciate that the Adversary is the being in the comic, I feel like his lack of history in the context of this show cause his appearance here less impactful and more confusing than i believe the writers intended. If you hadn't read the comic, this is a very serious heartbreaking story about self worth and regret, and then suddenly a demon is there to screw things up even more. If they needed an entity to suddnly be an outside antagonist that fed on their negative emotional state, they could have easily brought back the Shadow King. He has a history with Storm already estaished in the original series and is a mental parasite.
I just noticed the shorter hair results in a different wave. Fun.
Can't say I was ever a fan of Jubilee, be it comic or cartoon, but this story wasn't bad (and didn't take up the whole episode). Can't blame Magneto for saying no, bbut they could've gone without him...
this one is pretty weak, id skip this one on a rewatch

The Advesary is from the comics, usually Forge's villian, but Storm was with him trying to figure out a way to get her powers back, too. Anything else I say could be spoilers, so zipping my lips.
