Thanks for this. Ok, so I’ve just bought a 2011 5.1 LWB Caravelle 4 motion, which has the electric sliding doors and the factory (?) sliding windows on both. I think they are factory because they are flush. And… they’re the only thing on the whole van that don’t work. The r/h window track is rusted to the point of being wavy and warped. I suspect a leak has caused the rust and the rust has caused the window to seize. The other side is similar in that it has seized but the track seems straighter and less rust visible. I’d quite fancy putting a safari window in on one side as I’m converting to camper, but going from the current full glass back to semi panel with a smaller open and a safari window feels complex. I don’t know Wii hard it is to relive a window that was glued in place 13 years ago. Love your T5 build series! Greets from New Zealand 🇳🇿

Looking good, with the paint showing through the gap between the glass, some videos show running a strip of black vinyl before installing the glass so you can't see any paint colour, as others have said you needed to leave a small gap at the bottom when running the adhesive round to allow any moisture/condensation build up behind the glass to drain out, It's coming together very well indeed. 👍
Kudos to you mate that's one job that I would not tackle. You did a good job. Ever thought of fitting a reverse camera. I saw a transporter the other day but it had the usual barn doors and the camera was fitted just under the vw badge .It looked not too bad.
I used the exact same windows, even brought them back home on the plane to Australia. Fitted myself, also first time but not as clean as your job. Wrestled with the knock on trim as well. They did leak to start with around the knock on edge but I sealed from the inside and have been perfect since. I like them as super dark and good for privacy.

Vans looking mint, nice glass. don't forget to tell your insurance about the windows, its not a commercial vehicle any more so you should get it cheaper now, that's what i told mine for the caddy and the £££ came down 👍

Turned out very well. I cut off the tip of the adhesive cartridge at a 5 degree angle and smoothed the edges of the cut surface with a lighter. This will give you perfect, triangular beads of glue that stay in place. 5 degrees because you pull the cartridge gun at about that angle. By smoothing the tip you avoid chattering when pulling the adhesive bead. Congratulations on passing the MOT!

that reminded me of me doing mine on my van. I cant tell you how much I was bricking it, knowing if I cut wrong- specially the sliding door- I was looking at an expensive fix. I cut mine out using a nibbler which was brilliant to use. I must admit, i'd not given thought to doing dummy rear windows but I love the look on yours and it deffo makes the bus look way longer. I didnt get my windows from trade glass. I got them from another place and Id rather have the glass locks on yours. On my van I made some fancy blinds but on the siding door one, the glass latch is in the middle of the glass at the leading edge and sticks out three inches and the blinds catch going up and down I have thought about cutting an inch or so of the plastic so the blind slides up and down- though for the price you paid for the front glass, I might just get a single sliding glass panel with the different latch. Loving the build up of the bus. That paintwork is gorgeous. I cant wait to see your conversion. Much respect- Kenny
Van is looking great, you should be extremely proud of yourself. Definitely pop some black paint between the windows, just mask up and use a brush. Got to admit I’m belt and braces, so the morning after I fitted my windows I masked up around the windows and ran tiger seal along the top and sides to make sure they weren’t going anywhere and didn’t leak.
Can't belive the difference in this van from what it was to now, never seen them dummy windows(or maybe I have and didn't realise) but looks far better than the single window.
Looks great, I always think you shouldn't fully seal around a dummy window, leave a gap at the bottom, so the air pressure can vent when it warms up. You can also drill a hole through the panel behind the glass so it can vent.
Windows look superb Nathan, its not a bad thing that they are a bit stiff to open with the kids being in the back and so pleased you put googles on, I could watch you grinding with squinting, are yeah. 👍

Looks really good and coming along nicely. I have seen people leaving a gap in the bonding glue when doing fake windows to allow for heat expansion but not sure how essential it is. Really intrigued with the Touran seats and how they look in the T5 as the money people want for Transporter seats are stupid money and it’s defo the way to go I think
Amazing job! Van looks the nuts fair play. I’ve not tried this yet but my old T5’s previous owner put too much adhesive on the bottom and blocked the drains on the sliding window. It leaked badly so he had to reinstall another window. I doubt that will happen to you though. Perfect job 👍

You can bond to new paint as long as it’s been baked at a high enough temperature

You leave a gap on the top and bottom on the rear fake window because glass and metal expand at different rates in heat and can shatter
