  • The Vanderhall Laguna is a Utah-built trike with an aluminum chassis, carbon fiber body, and retro-future styling. It features a 1.4L Turbocharged GM four-cylinder engine, front wheel drive, and an automatic transmission with paddle shifters. It has a removable carbon fiber roof, a well-built interior featuring nice materials, and way more brakes and tires than it will ever need.

      Two points: The new Venice model costs only $30,000. Also, the reviewer is an ass. The car has 200 horsepower, makes 200 ft/lbs of torque, and weighs only 1550 lbs. If he can't go fast in it- the problem is him, not the car.

      They just need to make a detachable top for the venice. Sub 35000 for one of those would honestly not be bad. With the tunes that add 80hp and 100ftlb of torque and change the shift points, it really makes this thing a super good looking sell. I personally wont buy one until they start offering the manual again, but if they did I would give it a hard consideration.

    • @TheGavio93
      @TheGavio93 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alright good sir. I never said someone SHOULD buy it. That's the great thing about a free market. People can go buy whatever the hell they want with their money. After shooting and driving one of these, I'll never talk shit on someone who owns one because they are an interesting choice of car to go after. Yes, kinks need to be worked out and I personally would prefer a manual transmission. With that said, it's an entertaining ride. The reason why the car costs as much as it does is the insane attention to detail these guys have put into the construction of the vehicle (which Matt touched on in the review). Would I ever buy one? No. But if money isn't a problem for you in the slightest, then it's a fine car. Errrrr I mean trike.

      Such a great idea spoiled by using the components off of a Sonic. The 6-speed automatic is problematic and one of the most laggy around. The Sonic drivetrain is the LAST choice I'd like to see in anything performance oriented. Oh wait, it's not supposed to be performance oriented, you're paying SEVENTY GRAND to "cruise around". Is it any coincidence you can't turn traction control off in a Sonic either? I think not. You say it's weird and different. By weird and different do you actually mean stupid and pointless?

    • @24thMandark
      @24thMandark 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Taylor Ashworth The frustrating thing is you can actually turn the traction control all the way off in the Sonic. They could've at least tuned 50 more ponies out of the engine, and done something with the transmission for 70 grand. They're selling you half an economy car, half a motorcycle and instead of making the price meet in the middle are charging one arm and half a leg. I can't imagine the person that can justify purchasing this.

    I am so sick and tired of people bashing. Vanderhall has developed some cool looking autocycles. I would imagine nearly all of the negative critics couldn't afford one and that's why they knock it. I personally like the style, far more than the Slingshot and other 3 wheeled trikes. I've ridden motorcycles for 35 years and the Vanderhall is a great alternative to be on a motorcycle. My wife loves the idea as well... Great job Vanderhall

      The Vanderhall Laguna starts at $50k, not 75. It is not slow, the final version is around 160 horsepower and weighs 1600 pounds. It is not blisteringly quick, but it's not slow either.

    IMO this is the best looking model in the trike market. With that being said, I would still opt for the performance and drivability of an Ariel Atom. The sonic engine, auto trans, and FWD say they were going for a slow cruiser (as well as saying that's what they made). Who do they expect to even buy this thing? I couldn't see anyone buying this thing for like $75,000, and not even $25,000 to be honest.

      It's not the engine. The traction control is a type that actually vices the engine to reduce power to prevent wheel spin. You usually do not see a TC that works on the wheels, to sop wheel spin, except in higher end performance cars and race cars, where the rules allow.

    It looks awesome, that's for sure. Really nice line running along the side and down the hood. Seems to me like manual steering and a manual transmission would sure help. Lots of people in the comments section saying it's expensive, but it has a carbon body and lots of bespoke components which certainly explains the high price. FWD seems like a logical choice for a trike too. It seems to me that the rear wheel would have so much load doing the driving and managing all the rear mass is a lot of work for one tire.

    I like this thing but honestly reusing a GM steering wheel is sad. They put all the time in making a cool trike exterior/interior and took a short cut with that steering wheel.

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      in their defense, the steering wheel buttons actually do function and integrate with the CAN BUS

    • @bbpro5024
      @bbpro5024 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheSmokingTire you are right the steering wheel has all the control for the dash display and radio functions. I'm not hating on them or the Vanderhall, just my opinion it would be cool with a wooden steering wheel.

    • @Jushwa
      @Jushwa 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the steering wheel does look a bit out of place in a car like that, and I recognized where it was from as soon as I saw it, even with their badge replacement. But I'm sure the old men who will buy these cars won't have a clue. But they also most likely won't be able to figure out the steering wheel buttons either.

    A 2.0L Ecotec Turbo from the HHR (FWD) would do that car wonders. Cheap, bullet proof, and easily tunable power over 300hp. I think it's a cool design, and as Matt said at the beginning; it's a prototype. His feedback and some from the non-troll folks here will help them make a cool product.

    You lost me at Chevy Sonic. At first I though it was just like an uglier, more modern-looking Morgan-type thing, and anticipated a motorcycle engine and RWD. I could have been on board with that. But FWD? And the fake zoomies implying V8 power? Give me a break.

    The exhaust noise is reflecting off of the roof, a kind of amplifying effect, making it inside the drivers seat.

    I'm not sure why people think these 3 wheeled machines are good....they talk about them as if someone's made a bike better, but the truth is, they've made a car shittier. it doesn't feel like riding a bike at all, you don't get any of the same sensations at all......so you're essentially driving a car...but without windows, or a roof (on a slingshot), or luggage space, or seating space, or airbags, or bumpers/any safety at all....you still take up the same amount of garage space as a car. for the price of a slingshot you can buy a very nice used mazdaspeed miata, or s-2000, etc , and for the price of the vanderhall or the t-rex the possibilities are endless....I mean, you can get a very nice high end roadster for 70k usd. Anyone who buys this is an absolute moron!!!!!

    I think what happened during the development of this, is they were originally going to make it fast and sporty, but then realized they couldn't compete with the other 3-wheelers, so they had to give it a different purpose like cruising. Small production and then halfway through development needing to recreate it again, would cost a bunch and that reflects on the price.
    The quality of it seems really nice though. The interior trim and carbon fiber looks nice, and the cabin looks like a nice place to be, aside from the exhaust by your ear, which feels like a remnant of when it was intended to be sporty. I wish them the best, but I just don't see the appeal. If you want a luxury cruiser, for $75k, there are so many alternatives.

    This "trike" seems like a hugely disappointing let down, looks cool, looks fun to drive, looks fast, only delivers on the looks. But is it still cool looking when your getting beat uphill by a smart four2.

    I don't thinks it's pretty, but since I first saw it somewhere on Instagram I liked it. Problem is, as you said, it is FWD and auto. That's a perfectly fine combo for those who like driving a Corolla around, but definitely not so much for a sports/touring car/bike three wheeled thing.
    The Vanderhall Laguna is a car I definitely want to like, but it just lacks something... I can't picture myself paying Porsche money for a FWD vehicle with GM interior parts - even if covered in leather -.
    As someone already commented, I wish the effort for the steering wheel was the same they put into the exterior design. Just my two cents.

    Sounds like a modded chevy 4 cylinder... bad transmission... 75k for a powerplant and transmission from a 15k car. Performance frame without performance focus. This thing makes no sense imo. Tuned or not, seems pointless. For 75k you could fuck with a 4cyl Ariel Atom.

    Any number of 2.0l turbo engines could have been used or even 2.4l N/A engines unless there is some regulation about engine size and vehicle categorization as a motorcycle.
    The fact that it is loud and slow is a huge downside as well. Most people will tolerate loud cars if they are fast, but having to tolerate the noise and barely moving would be embarassing.
