One seat, three wheels: The Vanderhall Venice Speedster

  • The Vanderhall Venice Speedster is one unique machine. And one is exactly the number of people who can sit in this thing.
Vanderhall has taken its entry-level Venice model and removed a seat. Then a bit of extra bodywork has been applied, and the result is a vehicle called the Venice Speedster.
Power still comes from a GM-sourced Ecotec engine. The front wheels are still the drive wheels. And the price is well-under $30,000. A lot for a toy, but not crazy relative to the other three-wheelers on the market.
Is it any good? Watch and see what we have to say.

They should of made the part covering the passenger side removable like Mercedes did with the SLR Sterling Moss from several years ago .

Excellent review and matches my impressions. I think the Vanderhall is a great alternative to an expensive Morgan and it definitely provides a visceral driving experience. Alas, I wish Vanderhall had made the Speedster truly unique and given it a manual transmission, but it is what it is. As for weight balance, one could try the old trick of putting weight in the back. Porsche used to embed weight in the front bumpers of the early 911's to achieve better weight distribution, so it's possible. As for the breathy turbo blow-off noise, I'd install a quieter one too. And yeah, the Slingshot... that could cause retina damage. ;-)

Great video! Like everyone who looks into the VH, it's because I really (really) want a Morgan. Then I did some research about how awful the Morgan build quality is, with frame cracks, overheating engines, and compensators/bevel boxes blowing up. Kinda crazy how hard they had to struggle to make early 20th century technology work reliably for 60 grand. You can buy a nice VH for style points, and a nice Miata for RWD dynamics for the same money as a new Morgan.

Hey Jeff, does the short windshield deflect ANY air or bugs? Or does your face do the air/bug deflecting?

Lots of air in the face. Sunglasses, goggles, or a full-face are a must.

Should have come with the Ford 1 liter Ecoboost it makes way better noises that would probably suit that type of car better.

I’d still lean towards Polaris. Body and aesthetics can easily be manipulated to suit one’s taste, but front wheel drive dynamics are what they are.

Floda Brin better for what? My preference of driving dynamics?

Lost credibility saying there is too much turbo noise. THERE CAN NEVER BE ENOUGH TURBO NOISE!

Would have liked a little more meat on the bone (the review, not the car).

I'd rather just have a rwd Miata. Plus the Miata has a higher chance of you not dying in an accident. Fwd just ruins this concept for me, especially at $27k. Also the engine sound effects you did were hilarious.
