    My man! I'm glad to see love for the genesis! I bought some broken ones off eBay to bring them back to life, and I am rediscovering my childhood love. As a kid all I knew was sonic and now I'm blown away by so many interesting titles the console got.

    The intro skit was hilarious. 😆 The Genesis has a lot of great games. I had one when I was younger and have great memories of Sonic and Road Rash.

    I never played world of Illusion until I got my sega mini consoles. But castle of Illusion is in my top 20 games on Genesis. Road Rash 2 is also on in my top 20. Such a fun series. Recently I've been playing Shining Force again. Probably my favorite Sega Genesis game of all time. Every 2-3 years I end up going back in that game and complete it all over again. It's actually one of the games that got me thru Hurricane Milton recently. After the storm was over and had no power I would charge my phone and switch at domino's pizza. One of the few places open for a few days in my area. But then when changed I played shining force a ton lol anyways great picks here and take care. Oh and the skit was funny and liked the ToeJam and Earl music part lol

    Renegade Ops (Sega) is kind of a spiritual successor to the Strike series. Streets of Rage 2 is the system seller for me.

    I officially made it the summer of the GameCube and Wii for me. I've been going back and playing games that I never beat during my days in college. Windwaker and Twilight Princess, Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy 2, a little Pikmin... Also, honorable mention Okami. It's from the PS2, but it came out around the same time.

    As always, your enthusiasm is refreshing. I can't say I was as fond of the Genesis Mega Man game as you are (have you tried Mega Man: The Sequel Wars? So, soooo much better), but Streets of Rage 2 is always a delight. Also, some of these games appeared on the Genesis Mini, a console I strongly recommend to everyone.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jessragan6714 I love Wily Wars, but I'm also firmly it's target audience, so I bare no ill will towards anyone that isn't as jazzed about it as me. 😜 I've not played the Sequel Wars - I didn't even know it existed - but it sounds like my weekend plans are now sorted.
      Cannot agree more on the Genesis Mini as a must own. It, as much as anything, is responsible for this channel even existing in it's current state - my coverage of the original Mini was my first video to ever hit, and I realized that maybe there was something to talking about retro games. 😁

  • @RetroRivals

    Loved the intro and maybe next year will be the summer of Super Nintendo 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Sega Genesis is a fantastic console though, and while I didn't have one growing up, my brother did and so did Scott. Can definitely appreciate the love for Sonic Streets of Rage, Yes, the console just is a plethora of beat em ups. I say you're totally fine to include the retrobit release.
    I need to look up some easy Sega Genesis games to slowly break myself back into the system and being better at retro games LOL. Bloodlines is high up on my list to complete but my gosh the frustration.

    EA did continue the strike games a bit for the Playstation with Soviet Strike and Nuclear Strike. Few people talk about Urban strike on genesis though. Fantastic series that holds up.
    Really this list is good shows the must play games for genesis that have held up over time.
    For me Herzog Zwei is my favorite genesis game. I return to it regularly, there is a learning curve which is probably why its not more highly sought after. But its absolutely the game I needed to cool off from all these intense arcade games. If you liked desert strike you might like it. I like to joke I have a special delivery when I air drop a tank on the enemy base.

    RBI Baseball 94 those graphics and music to me, best baseball video game right under Baseball Stars 1 and 2 Neo Geo games.
    Gunstar Heroes this game one the most action packed games ever.
    Minnesota Fats pool relaxing with cool jazzy music.
    Mercs Capcom classic with 2 modes of gameplay.
    Super Tecmo Bowl one of a kind, no explanations needed.
    Revenge of Shinobi you get to fight Spider-Man, Batman, Godzilla, and Terminator if you got import version before modded US version.
    Acme All Stars another Konami classic with multiple sports games
    Phantasy Star 4
    Shining Force
    Street of Rage 2

    Y'know, I never did get the love for the Road Rash games. Ok, I mean, I get that motorcycle racing is rad, and beating up your opponent is cool ON PAPER, but I never felt the execution lived up to the concept. The scrolling hurt my eyes. The fighting was janky. The music was... an acquired taste (i.e. I hated it). I may be remembering wrong, but were there even sound effects for the actual motorcycles? How could you miss that very critical detail in a motorcycle game?! Anyway, I say all this to say, Desert Strike is the best in the Strike series, and yes, I would definitely love to see a reboot/remake.

    Anyways I always play my Sega Genesis or whatever retro console. I love all the games you listed except for Toe Jam & Earl & Desert Strike.
    The X-Men games are really hard. So is the Batman & Robin. I owned the 1st X-Men game back in the day. This was wat before youtube & Magazines were not as accessible for knowledge. I had no idea that you had to press reset on your console to progress to the last level of the game.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@tonyp9313 For me, I mention the year for no other reason that to illustrate that even 30+ years after it's release, it (retro gaming) is still the preferred way to play for me.
      It's also a handy metric when I do these videos to just reference the title to determine when the last time I'd covered the console was, rather than having to dive deeper into analytics. ;)
      Thanks for watching!

    • @tonyp9313
      @tonyp9313 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SquarePegs Yeah very cool. That's also my prefered way to play after 30 years +....2D platfoming, controls that are precise, Turbo controllers too, codes in games, game genie codes to make them a lot easier, save states. Also games are just 1 hour on avg some lesser & some a bit more like 2 hours.
      New modern consoles like PS5, don't need them...Games are like 30-100 hours, 3D a lot of exploring etc, no codes what so ever or cheats to make the games easier, no turbo controllers nothing.. online is cool, but if I don't like the games then online is not as good.
