Craftsman Plus kits are “curbside” style - fast, fun, and easy to build. A simple engine plate replaces a multi-piece motor to speed up assembly and finish a beautiful replica in a reduced amount of time. This kit includes two-wheel options with optional cap covers, firewall parts, a radiator, and an engine plate. Also contains a set of colorful water slide decals. All of this is wrapped up in AMT’s vintage packaging.

The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The "Super Sport" versions were produced through the 1973 model year and Lagunas from 1973 through to 1976.[1]
After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964.
The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall.
From 1964 through 1969, GM of Canada sold a modified version of the Chevelle that included a Pontiac-style grille and a LeMans instrument panel, marketed as the Beaumont.
The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model through 1972 and completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate starting with the redesigned and downsized 1978 model year.
The Chevelle Super Sport, or SS, represented Chevrolet's entry into the muscle car battle. In early 1964 and 1965, Chevelles had a Malibu SS badge on the rear quarter panel. Chevelles with the mid-1965 Z-16 option, priced at US$1,501 (~$14,512 in 2023) in 1965,[11] had the emblem on the front fender as well as distinct in-house style numbers: 737 for the hardtop and 767 for the convertible.[12] The $162 Super Sport package was available on the upscale Malibu two-door hardtop and convertible models; the option added special exterior brightwork with SS emblems and the 14-inch full-disc wheel covers from the Impala SS. Inside, the vinyl bucket-seat interior featured a floor console for models equipped with the optional Muncie aluminum four-speed manual or Powerglide two-speed automatic instead of the standard three-speed manual. Malibu SS also came with a four-gauge cluster instead of engine warning lights, and a dash-mounted tachometer was optional.[13] The available 283-cubic-inch four-barrel V8 engine was rated at 220 hp (164 kW), the same rating as the 1957 Chevrolet Power-Pak 283 engine.
Starting in mid-1964, the Chevelle could be ordered with the division's 327-cubic-inch V8, in either 250 or 300 hp (224 kW). Both used a four-barrel carburetor and 10.5:1 compression. For 1965, Chevrolet added the 350-hp 327 V8 as a Regular Production Option (RPO) L79. A total of 294,160 Chevelles were built in the first year, including 76,860 SS models.[14] After 1965, the Malibu SS badge disappeared except for those sold in Canada. A limited 201 Malibu SS 396 'Z-16' big-block-equipped cars were also eventually produced starting in late 1965, with most being built between mid-March and mid-April. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

I find curbside kits not very interesting but at least the you put together actually has an separate hood and a engine compartment. It would be cool if you could show how to add a engine to a curbside kit.
Even a firewall this time, putting an engine in there would be a snap.
Those accessory wire wheel hub caps are huge plus also.

Honestly, at this point they should just release several most popular high detailed engines for those curbside classic as independent models. I have a feeling third party will release resin upgrades annyway :D
I was too young to appreciate at the time, but the early seventies version of the Revell ‘57 Chevy Nomad had a super-detailed engine that could show pistons if you left the headers off. If there were an all-engine kit( a variety of V8s, straight 6s , and V6s), that had a higher level of detail, that would make at this old heart beat a little faster.

So i buy two kits and build in two ways.
One in version of „parking sideways in the streets“and the other in mild custom/streetmachine.

My first car was a hand-me-down 1964 Malibu that was my mother's first car she bought after college. It wasn't the SS but it did have the 327 in it. It would easily do 120 MPH with five people in the car! 😂

This is on my list… I got rid of quite a few batches of my collection… started getting into knives 20 years ago… Heck, even started getting rid of a few of those knives… But I do still build every once in a while with my grandkids… it’s funny when you’re into your 60s and you’re trying to be realistic about how much time you have left on this earth… and enjoy a few hobbies… One of the knife TH-camrs was taking us along for a walk in Walmart and showing us all the half-price knives on clearance.. they were USA knives and I was tempted but even though I was waiting in the Walmart parking lot for my wife to come out…. I had to show some restraint.
Buying is the easy part selling off the stuff we have is the hard part …
Sorry for all the seriousness … but I will go out and get the Chevelle. I’ve been waiting for it since I heard about the re-release…. I’m especially interested in seeing if this can be used to restore a 64 Chevelle wagon body.

Mounting points for the windshield, chassis and interior - about %=/&>*£ time!!!! I count myself as a seasoned modeller but building my first car kit (AMT 66 Galaxie) I can't believe how hit and miss the fitting of the major parts are (well, most parts really). However, for a new tooling, R2 could consider having the interior door panels as separate items to aid painting and possibly door fittings as separate parts....?

When you leave them on the sprues, Dont you get a white spot when you break them off? What do you do, Just touch it up after you break it off?

Actually those wire wheel covers were a factory option. They were available on Impalas, Chevelles, and Corvairs (in a 13" size).
You could swap out that FI V8 from the 39 Tudor and put the original engine in it. 🤔
I've been using Aleen's Tacky Glue for years and I highly recommend it. I also use the clear gel for lights and small clear parts, and the white Turbo Tacky Glue for windows and larger bits where the mounting points aren't immediately visible.
I like too paint my marker lights with clear colors
Nice model. General Motors announced this week that 2024 is the last year of the Malibu - 10 million units sold since '64, as they are focusing on new EV autos in it's place.
Camaro and Malibu gone in the same year.
Dodge is dropping the Challenger and Charger as well.

I would have to do this one up like the 64 Malibu in the 1984 cult classis Repo Man (granted the 64 Malibu in Repo Man was a 4 door but I think they should have used a two door in that move but that's another story for another time)
Is that A chrome sharpie ? I use The Liquid Chrome pens they work great
1964, my Senior year of high school and I was a car nut. We all scratched our head when the "small" Mailibu came out. Until Chevy relaesed the SS 409. Most dealers had one on display. SUDDENLY everyone wanted the small Chevy with the big engine. By October they were at the Drag Races. There are 6 cylinder engine kits and 409 engines as well on the "WEB" for about $20 bucks. Chevy introduced "Canary Yellow" in '64 and EVERYBODY was painting their rods with it. Nice build, Chris - thank you!
Knowing you don't keep all the kits you build, ever thought about detailing the engine bays. Then mod podging the hood and engine plug in place, so whoever gets them next they add a motor if they want

A true craftsman kit should have a complete engine assy separate suspension drive train , and any other accessories.
What store were you able to find Krylon Black Primer? I prefer Krylon over Rustoleum, but the Krylon selections around here are minimal.

I know, I know,... "Build for you".... But I'd leave the engine plug out.. No gluing hood shut.. Hey the engine is out for having issues..
Finally, they included a firewall. I have installed engines in previous Craftsman Plus series kits in the past but I find the underhood details come up short with out a firewall. It seems to me that it wouldn't take much to include engines in these great kits. I love how these look but not a fan of the curbside.

No engine molded and exhaust molded in suspension far less Parts in a full build, but you still pay the same price
I got the 64 Chevelle wagon curbside at Ollie's Discount for $12. The 1/24 scale big trucks were $20.
The official word was on the news today from GM. The Malibu is DEAD.
You do a great job, and I hope that this tip is helpful: The panel gaps on a yellow body will be dark yellow, not black. The gaps on a blue car will be dark blue. On a red car they'll be dark red. On a green car, they'll be dark green. They won't be black unless the car is black or a very dark gray. It's easier to find paint for panel gaps in black (shame on you, Tamiya) but gaps will always be a darker version (a shade) of the panel color, not black, which is devoid of the hue in the panel.
