  • Eduard/Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale by The Inner Nerd
    Time lapse video of the full build, painting and weathering of the BAe Harrier GR.7/9 by Eduard/Hasegawa in 1/48 scale as shown by The Inner Nerd
    The first part of this video shows the use of Photo Etched parts and scratch building techniques on the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale model to detail hydraulic pipes and electrical cables professionally and cheaply around both the cockpit and wheel bays. Locitite 406 CA superglue is used in this process combined with CA superglue accelerator/activator to join the two dissimilar materials. Also used are details from Eduard Brassin which are additional parts to the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scales box
    The second part shows the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale models surface preparation techniques such as filling panel gaps and seams with Deluxe Materials Perfect Plastic Putty modelling filler/putty and sanding them smooth to get a seamless join between parts using a range of sand papers from 800, 1200, 2000, and 3000p dpi grit papers. Also Black Basing techniques are included in this section using Mr Hobby "Mr Surfacer 1000, 1200 & 1500 Finishing Surfacer" thinned with Mr Hobby Self Levelling Thinner 400 to prime the surface ready for painting, sprayed through an airbrush using Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline Solo Needle/Nozzle: 0.15mm with Badger 1100 with Anti-Pulsation Tank Working Pressure 22psi (1.51bar).
    The third part of the video demonstrates the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale model using the BLACK-BASING technique to achieve a pre-weathered look and surface texture replicating that of an aged and worn aircraft. Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline is used with Badger 1100 with Anti-Pulsation Tank Working Pressure 22psi (1.51bar). Also included in this section on the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale model is the Engine Exhaust painting using Alclad 2 Lacquers (Airframe Aluminium, Aluminium, Steel, Jet Exhaust, Copper & Pale Burnt Metal) and Tamiya clear paints to create a burnt metal effect. 3 layers of Mr Color GX100 Superclear III thinned with Mr Hobby Self Levelling Thinner 400 seal the decals in. This can be decanted and sprayed through an airbrush such as the Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline Solo.
    Decals for the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale model follow painting with the aid of Mr Hobby Mr Mark Setter & Softer products. These products allow the decal to form to the shapes of the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scales panel lines and surface which you can see in the video.
    Next is the weathering of the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale model. This is started using Abteilung 502 & Winsor & Newton oil paints thinned with white spirit to a wash consistency. Then used as a panel line wash the oil is applied across the Eduard Hasegawa Harrier GR.7/9 in 1/48 scale model to achieve a dirty, grimey & worn look. Further weathering including Unthinned Abteilung 502 Oil Paints to create streaking and water marks, along with AK Interactive weathering Pigments (Gun Metal, Russian Earth, Europe Earth, Medium Rust and Pigment Fixer, Worn Effects, Dark Streaking Grime Rainmark Effects) concludes weathering.

    Hello friends. Hope you enjoyed the video of Eduard's Harrier GR7. If you did please leave me a like and subscribe as it's not the last time you'll be seeing this jet, I've got some plans in the future where it will be reappearing 😎
    And don't worry, the main landing gear will be fixed in the next video. My patience with this kit was running out and I wanted it finished 😩 its not an oversight 😉

    Beautiful model mate. I was with No1 squadron in early eighties on Gr3’s and Gr7’s when we went to Denmark on winter manoeuvres we painted them exactly as you have and your weathering is absolutely spot on 😁👍🏻 an amazing job you should be very proud af your achievements 😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 regards Kenny 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      Ah yes, remember slopping that distemper on. It was easy on the GR3’s as you just covered the green bits but ( model making authenticity tip) you never distempered over any insignia or warning signs. When we first took the GR5’ to Bardufoss in Norway for their first proper play in the snow it was the first time they were allowed to turn on the Zeus ECM and were promptly told to turn it off again by Norwegian ATC as it blinded them! Worst bit was scrubbing it off when they got back to the UK. I seem to remember Paul the aircraft cleaner always took vacation then! Most of the rear end white was then black from soot! Dirty Girls!

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well the kit is originally based on a Hasegawa mould and reboxed as Eduard to include the resin and PE and other stuff. Good kit overall with the options and stuff, but only if you overlook how hard it is to build. Patience was running low with the build by the time I got the to final images and found that the undercarriage wasn't long enough! I left it because there is going to be another video featruing this aircraft in the future so will sort that out then when I've cooled down a but haha

    The cartridges you have painted green need to be like a silver/gold colour as they are fitted with live cartridges not the dummy green unarmed blanks but that is me picking a slight fault on your mad but excessive attention to detail but what a lovely aircraft model I would adore to own that ❤

    I also recommend the 1/48 Kintetic Sea Harrier kit. In my view it's probably the best 1/48 Harrier kit, cockpit detail is not as stunning as this Eduard kit though and there are a few fitting issues that require a fair bit of filler but Kinetic gives you far more options I feel, and it's also a lot cheaper and easier to get.
    I'd like to give this Harrier GR7/9 kit a try though, but it's so hard to get and those I do find are too expensive for me. It's limited edition afterall

    • @Frserthegreenengine

      Thank you. This is a rebox of the 2004 Hasegawa kit so gives Eduard an unjust bad review I suppose. I think model companies do a lot of testing still but this one has been in production a long time so the mold might be a bit worn now, resulting in poor fits. Anyway, thanks for watching :)

    BRUTAL!!! means... more than great. I am starting with this model and the camu was very attractive. but seeing this master class... you convinced me. One quick question, please, what is the product "plastilina in Spanish"... (might be something more technical not leaving stains in the surface), that you use in 22:45? Thanks. Again Great model.

    • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes I did. They take some alignment but if you fit them in stages (front first then work to the rear/side to side) then they will come out okay. You just can't got ahead and glue the entire nozzle together at once.
      And the problem for me was the centre wheel that was too long. I sorted it by taking out about 3mm from the leg

    Good day! After applying the primer, you do pre-shading on a black background. You apply gray, brown shades and effects of surface heterogeneity. But after applying camouflage, those effects are not visible at all. I see no reason to do such preshing.

      Konrad is correct. In the video narration it is stated that the effect is very subtle and barely visible, but the camera does not pick up the effect quite as well as in real life so is difficult to show properly. The main reason for including this detail in the video however is to show viewers how to inter-shade and how it works to learn from

I also have an in-box review of this kit where you can see each sprue in detail. (Link at end of this video on on my channel page if you're interested). • @TheInnerNerd
      @TheInnerNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. Okay so I wouldn't reccomend going too expensive to begin with as there is a learning curve and you wouldn't want to mess up an expensive piece of kit. I started with a Sealy AB9321. It's gravity feed double action and is a great starter. At £30 when I bought it supplied with an air hose, 3 needles and nozzles or various sizes and the fittings for the compressor it was a good deal. I still have it too and as long as you clean it out it will last years. I hope this helps. I have got a video coming out on Friday (29/1/21) covering the basics of model making. Airbrushing and paint thinning is covered in detail so may be worth watching to aid your research. Good luck and thanks for watching :)

    I've just bought the kit and may get the flaps upgrade too! Does anyone know if the Harrier's flaps and nozzles move in unison or can be moved serarately? It's just some models I've seen have the nozzles down when the flaps are up which may be due to the Hasegawa kit not having positionable flaps but just wanted to be sure! Thanks.

    • @royking7304
      @royking7304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They can move separately to a certain degree that's why harriers come into their landing pattern over the water instead of over the deck and then drift over onto their landing spot, much like a helicopter. I may be mistaken but I do not believe the flaps move independently. I do however know that the nozzles can move independently, I hope this has been helpful. Good luck with the build.

    • @ScottKenny1978
      @ScottKenny1978 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flaps and nozzles are separate controls. So you can have full flaps and nozzles in flight position (like for a normal rolling takeoff).

    • @TheInnerNerd

    • @sgkingly8392
      @sgkingly8392 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know people who have been taking apart the Typhoon DA4 prototype and that has a composite wing. From what I have heard, no rivets but there are lots of fasteners that look like rivets until you get very close. I don't know about the harrier but I have access to a FA.2 at a museum so I could probably take a look

    • @ScottKenny1978
      @ScottKenny1978 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The access panels have screws, and the big details just aft of the leading edge of the wing are vortex generators, big rectangular tabs.
