Hey gang, welcome back! Comment your worst kits here, lets share our struggles! See my incomplete build of Kinetic's 1/48 F-16I SUFA. This kit uses the same moulds as alllll of their other F-16's (sigh) so I would go buy a Tamiya one instead... Hope you enjoy the video and find it useful even though I didn't do much painting. Of course I could have finished the kit but I'd had enough. I have seen fantastic builds from this and other Kinetic F-16's, but for me it wasn't mojoing my mojo :( The model stand is available on my website www.theinnernerd.com and is completely made by me. The money made from it helps support the channel and keep the videos rolling, maybe even full-time one day… lets see.
It was an old 1/35 Trumpeter Transporter kit , truck / trailer , cant remember which one it was , an old kit with that horrible green plastic ... lol :)
Love the tour of your workshop -- everything within easy reach. That was an expensive collection of parts you hammered. Perhaps a Viking funeral on a flaming ship?
Can I just say that it’s so refreshing to see a guy like you actually show a failure. Most others would have palmed it off or made some excuse when you showed us a situation that everyone of us has been in! I’ve never seen this AT ALL on TH-cam till last night. Pro or not we face the same problems 😂🤣 Superb video! Superb channel! I might have to crack my airbrush out after many years of being away from the bench because of you. Please keep the content coming Sir!!!!
Agreed. So far Inner Nerd hasn’t been the ‘look at me how good I am’ modeller (although he is) and been down-to-earth with his builds. It’s refreshing to see him do on a video what some of us actually do with a rotten kit in private. Me included.
Thank you. I know this is a kit many have been eager to see so I wanted to show how far I got no matter how far, or not, I got. You've rightly said we've all been there and I'm sure I'll be back here again with another kit as some point. The Inner Nerd is my modelling journey, it needs to be relatable and with each model we learn something new and something not to do next time. As long as the next model is better in some way than the last we're heading in the right direction! I hope it goes well, it's definitely time to crack it out... and then then give the airbrush a go. Thanks for watching :)
So happy to hear you say my sponsor! I hope soon you say all my sponsors. You deserve it. Your doing a great job presenting your work. And man I wish I had that much hair. Keep up the great work and never stop. T
Must say that although it’s not the same variant or scale the Tamiya F-16 is a fantastic fantastic kit. Excuse my ignorance if you’re already covered it. Great work you do.
If you leave decals in the water before they release from the backing, you risk washing or diluting the adhesive off the marking. Dipping the decal in warm water and then laying it aside on a dish or aluminum paint pallet allows the adhesive to release without the risk of dilution and, ultimately, curling
I had a Kinetic 1/48 EA6B. Had issues straight out the box. To start the fuselage halves were off. Emailed kinetic who sent me another set of fuselage halves which were exactly the same (shorter one side at the rear). I worked around this and had the same issues where the seats wouldn't fit in the cockpit tub, so i bought aftermarket seats. The folded wing wouldn't join together precisely so I used plastic card to fill the areas with a gap. I ended up throwing the kit at the point the decal disintegrated when I took out out the water. However, I did build a Kinetic E2C Hawkeye which went okay, despite still having a few problems. I love their subject choices but generally I've had bad experiences with their fitment.
Ahh damn, I have one of those on order... When you go to model it should be a pleasant experience. I understand this won't happen all the time, but literally every time I came to do this one I got a tiny bit further, like treating water. Sounds like you've had the same experience. It's a shame because you rightly say that they have a good choice and some kits are worth getting just because of the box art. There are a few gems thought I agree, especially their gold standard ones. Thanks for watching :)
Built 2 of them at the same time. Only issue I had was the landing gear on one and the canopy fit. Both Israeli F16's look great. I've got a 3rd one in an Italeri boxing and are looking forward to building it. My next models are an Academy Mig29 and GWH Mig 29 together. Always up for a challenge. Sometimes perfectly fitting kits can be boring so Im happy to have my expertise tested.
the very first seconds of the video reminded me the situation when I threw out my Su-32FN model right out of my window from 5-th floor of my condo 20 years ago... but in my case - i wasn't happy with the way how I filed down the place around the canopy, so the canopy itself was not more adjusting to that place... anyway, I kind of felt the moral relief at that moment)))
I just finished this kit a month ago and it is indeed frustrating. I never could get the canopy to sit right. The fit was atrocious all over. But I carried on. Needless to say I won't buy another one.
@@JM7284 the only kinetic kit I've built that was a fun build is their superb f-104 starfighter. I cant speak to all of their kits but so far the starfighter is the only one that you don't want to pull your hair out over. Their harrier kits are a challenge but not too awfully bad. The sufa is crap though. Which is unfortunate because I love the aircraft.
@@danwilliams1686 No hair to pull out so maybe I am safe! I too love the Sufa (not enough to spell it right the first time though...but I'll blame that on the rum). I think the changes to the F16 airframe to modernize it really gives it legs and it could be the modern day P-51 Mustang if given the opportunity. And Putin is pushing for that opportunity it seems.
@@JM7284 if you really want to build it then go for it aware of its shortcomings and invest in putty and sanding sticks. I was so traumatized by the build I went with the ming f/a-18e and that kit is soo sweet!
@@danwilliams1686 I'm a kit collector as much as a builder (actually more a collector hoping to one day pass on the kits to my son--200 kits and counting) and I don't want bad kits. I'll avoid this one and wait for another Sufa kita (you listening Tamiya??!?) that is Japan, US, Euro manufactured.
Yeah, their Sukhoi kit broke me as well. I was tired of their crap with bad instructions and having to hack, fill, and sand things to fit properly. The little Hasegawa UAE F-16 kit I bought was hassel-free and a nice simple kit to build. Not the Sufa, but a cool plane in its own right, and snaggle-free.
I got an Esci 1/48 Hornet for £5 in a model shop. The shop owner said he had reduced them all to £5 after getting so many complaints about them !! So, I wasn't too disappointed when it had really bad fit issues, after all, it only cost £5 - and I was pre-warned !!
Haha £5 I can deal with, this was £50 I think... Plus extras! Sometimes we need a test mule so these come in handy. Although there's not much left of mine now... Thanks for watching :)
It's a pity that the company's quality control department doesn't do a proper check and offer failures at reduced rates to justify the money they expect you to pay for better designed and moulded products.
Kitty Hawk seem to be on par with Kinetic with their frustrating kits. I got away with their SU-22 Fitter I think, but never again. Thanks for watching :)
I put together that model and well, it's not bad at all, I think that's what being a modeler is, making it look good, at least I had a lot of fun with this model :)
So sorry for your loss :( I have only built one Kinetic kit the FRS1 Sea Harrier and totally loved it, as you say their kits need a bit of work and the call outs in the instructions are all over the place but my kit was so much more detailed than the other 48th Harrier's by Hasegawa that I have built, thanks for sharing and keep on keeping on 👍
The worst kit I have ever built (but completed) was Roden's 1:72 He 111C. Huge gaps everywhere, but after I finished it (I was 15 or something close at the time), I was really proud of having that civilian 111 painted in silver and black.
@@tommyboyscalemodeling4988 maybe because they offer rather esotheric subjects. No other company has released the early He 111s in 72nd, let alone in 48th.
great vid buddy , Im a armour modeller normally , i had a very old Trumpeter Tank transporter kit i half built a while ago , it was a pig , i threw it out the window , it happens , better to move on lol.. :) tc
A nice setup. SHame about the model, I was exactly the same trying to build the Mine Rollers on the BMR-3M tank. Pieces snapped , wouldn`t fit , everything went wrong. But the next build was great...
I had many similar frustrations with my Kinetic A-6 Intruder. Poor instructions, poor engineering with a lack of attention to detail, it almost did me in too. I feel your pain.
Oh no!! Got this one (tram) in Stash... So......soon on eBay for sale 😂. Modelling is really nice, but as it becomes frustrating.... Hope the F-104 Kinetic' 'gold' is as good as they say ( just bought this)
Ive been there. Was working Tamiya's 1/48 F-16C Thunderbird. Paint was done. Stripes were masked and painted and the decals all splintered....was done after that.
Wise decision to smash that bugger! I have both the 1/72 and 1/48 scale versions, but only use the exotic bumps and bops on the equivalent Tamiya F-16s. Those are the ultimate shake ‘n bake kits, but are only bland US versions. Nice work setup though! 👍🏼
I just finished the kinetic F-16c block52. Had the same issues. Tired of cleaning parts and finding clever ways to fit them. Nightmare to say the least. Haven't seen a model with that great surface details and so bad molding and fitting at the same time. BTW, Ak interactive real colors are my new favorite.
I got Tamiya's 1/48 F-16C/D kit with some PE and decals for other schemes for £20 :D...I was eyeing this one up, thankfully I passed and got a lovely Eduard Fw190 instead
Another excetional build, thank you for being out there for us nerds I love how you bagged it all, " Im not having fun anymore" Alot could use that advice in life
So sorry for the problems you’ve experienced, but that’s modeling! We learn by building, and hopefully don’t have to smash kits! Happy days and model on! 😎
It sure is a pain this kit... I built mine about 2years ago for a group build.. did same add lots of aftermarket and trouble fitting it all together was made worse by the instructions.. came out OK in end but was a lot of work
I always knew that Kinetic f-16s had problems(I really hoped with the "new parts" of the Sufa they would fix the problems). I had great expectations for this kit.... but this is Revell quality from the 80s
I am just about finishing a vintage Revell 1/32 P40 Flying Tigers kit. Every turn of the corner has been a problem and yes it's almost a 50 year old kit so I was expecting some problems but I've almost stop building it several times and thought about throwing it into the trash so I totally understand. 😂
The diorama of your hair looked very realistic! Great video and I hate to admit it I have that kinetic model and after inspecting it after opening it’s still in the box. So… I feel your frustration, however you did amplify it by getting wrong after market parts :)
I was lucky to get one cheap, after starting it I got tired of the fight and put it back in the box for someday. It has some great extra weapons and decals for my other kits.
I'm sure it will make a nice model with time and patience that I ran out of during the build. I did keep the weapons though, they were too good to throw away and some are quite unique too. Good luck with yours and thanks for watching :)
I’m sorry about the sufa… I’ve smashed a lot of planes too 😁 at the end of the day, it encourages us to fill the gap 👍🏻 I admire you, you’re a good modeler!
Question I can only use acrylic paint and acrylic varnishes Once I put the decals on the clearcoat starts to peel what can I do am I not allowing it to cure long enough
Hello. Not sure what that problem is here but it maybe that the clear coat has nothing to key into once applied over your paint. When the clear doesn't adhere properly it can sometimes bubble, or blister, causing it to come away from the paint. What brands are you using for each? This may help me see your problem
Good info. On another topic were do find scale drawings of planes that show rivets? I am wanting to use my new Rosie rivet tool on a Tamiya ME-262 build.
Thank you. I get most of my drawings from here. Link looks dodgy but it's good airwar.ru/other/draw/ Failing that google "insert aircraft here Blueprint drawing" and something should come up after a bit of digging through the images
Thank you for making this video! I am glad to see that even experts like you get frustrated. My worst kit thus far, which I am still building and fighting with, is the Tamiya F-15C in 1/48. As I struggle through it I often wonder why we do this to ourselves? I have limited time to build kits and with so many excellent quality kits available like the Tamiya F-4B why waste the time building a subpar kit? This is especially true when there are other better quality of the subject. Yes I understand the whole "we are modelers thing". However, isn't better spending our limited time building kits that are enjoyable to build and that we can actually finish in a decent amount of time? In turn this would allow us to continue building other kits. Anyway, great video and thank you for being sharing that getting frustrated and quitting on a kit is okay.
Thank you for watching :) I completely agree and building should be fun. Some people get kicks from making an almost impossible to assemble kit, but not me. There is too much pressure to complete everything we start, its a hobby after all. Best of luck with your future builds and thanks for sharing with me your frustrations. Onto better kits!
Made the right call to stop and throw it away. I've been there but never had to quit, my time is limited so I do basic builds rather than super detailed work and I can live with a seamline shoiwng and a pin mark burried inside the cockpit or wheel well, in fact I can live with a lot more than that. 90% of the stuff that stresses me out when painting a model for example never even matters once done, I put it in my display stand next to the rest and move on, whenever I look at it at just look at it from a distance, enjoying the full view. Funny how it works. Then again I am not making TH-cam videos of my builds and can have my fun like that. In the end, I enjoyed watching the video as much as any finished build, or actually a lot more due to the intrigue involved!
Ha, with one leap I was free! I had that kit but sold it when I was reducing my stockpile a few years ago. I didn’t realise but it looks like I had a lucky escape. However I do have grim memories of the Airfix 1/48 Jaguar. Generally I like Airfix but getting the intakes on that one to fit took many evenings and a lot of filler.
Crap! That's a bad news for me as I have the F-16AM kit which is the base kit of yours. And I even got a handful of aftermarket parts including metal landing gear.
Probably for me was the Jaguar from Kitty Hawk and never got finished. Another one was the Revell 1/48 Typhoon, it got done but its a mare of a kit and is currently a test mule lol
I think the 1/72 is at least a little better. I have heard issues but the shear part count on this one is enough to demoralise you when everything you fit doesn't... Best of luck and thanks for watching :)
Nice one. I threw a half completed kit against my workshop wall before drop-kicking it across the garden. Felt much better afterwards. Ps. I like your dry sense of humour.
It took me a year (on and off) to build the AM MLU version in Dutch Demo Orange Lion scheme, unfortunately if you want an accurate Dutch or Belgian model the Kinetic is the only real option, it is frustrating and the ultimate mojo buster is trying to make the canopy fit, I broke 2 and had to get replacements from Kinetic in Hong Kong. It nearly got the sledge hammer treatment and went some way to put me off modelling altogether 😔
I wouldn't even have gone as far as you did with such bad fit problems. Even releasing something that bad is shameful, we buy model kits to build a model, and not to fill and sand every crack because of bad molding. I mean if you have to do a little filing its OK, but not like that. I would have put some firecrackers in it and made a cool explosion though.
Hobby turned chore with this one and I didn't want it to beat me. I agree there needs to be some work in there or it's not modelling, but this is almost reshaping each part in some way to get it to fit. Other would enjoy this I'm sure, but not me. Kinetic blue boxes don't have a good record it seems. Thanks for watching :)
There are quite a few aftermarket products that fix a lot of those problems. Cockpit, Nose, you purchased the exhaust the 3D printed instruments wheels. For a kit that cost as much as this one you should have invested a little more, I think you would have been pleased.
But why should anyone end up effectively buying the kit twice? We’ve paid for the designer and toolmaker to do their jobs already, so let them do them - properly.
@@MisterHampshire What I'm saying is he already spent money on aftermarket so just spend a little more to make it right, when he smashed the model he just threw away all that money he spent. I see where your coming from, if there was a way to know if a model is any good before you buy it would be great. I have seen this kit shine in other modelers hands. He seemed to lose patience he should have walked away and come back at a later time. I have this kit and through research I know the downside to it, I want to build it right so I purchased what I needed to do so.
I had the same issue with the nose. I kept the original kit radome part and packed out the two adjacent parts from behind with evergreen plastic card. That removed the step in the bottom fuselage. I'm building an Kinetic F-16A (ADF). The tail for this version had a massive sink mark in the tail base, requiring me to break the tail off the model to fix the errors. I recommend anyone looking at building this Kinetic F-16D kit to try and try and crosskit it with a Tamiya 1/48 F-16C Block 25/32 or 30/42 kit. Then using all the extra leftover parts like the main wheels, heavyweight landing gear and pylons, all of which a vastly superior components. To fix this kit you just need to bust out some Humbrol or Tamiya grey putty, fill up the gaps in the nose and sand it smooth. Anyone who's built an old Matchbox or Airfix kit will know where I'm coming from. Install the landing gear up position and finish the kit so it can be hung and displayed from the ceiling. It's a good chance to use up the decals you weren't planning to use and get some painting practice. But defiantly don't chuck the kit in the bin yet !!!
Very good video none the less, we all have that one model that pains us to even think about; Mine was the Revell 1/72 Halifax, I did it when I was 13 and it kills me to think about the mistakes I made and the mistakes in the kit!
I had a similar experience when coming back to the hobby a year or so ago with airfix’s typhoon. Bits of it were just awful and didn’t fit flush, requiring loads of work. It literally went flying…
Airfix don't have a great track record either reading through the comments. My experience with Airfix is mixed, some good, some not so. Hope it didn't put you off modelling again anyway. Thanks for watching :)
@@TheInnerNerd I’d agree with that. I built their P51 recently, which was excellent and I have the new Vulcan in the stash, which has good reviews. Thankfully, experience (and my father - who is a walking scale modelling dictionary) reminded me that some kits are just naff and if it’s not enjoyable, just move on and don’t lose the love of modelling!
These are limited run kits, atrocious to build. My SH Ki 43 had terrible fit, bad and irregular panel lines, unfitable canopy and lackluster decals... Every bit required a lot of work. It now looks decent but i won t buy another one !
I have one of the F-16 MLU kits, which has languished on the shelf half built due to issues like this. The sprue gates issue is by far and away the biggest, to the point where for example the kit exhaust nozzle was unusable as you remove all the moulded details with the sprue gates. To make matters worse, the aftermarket nozzle 'specifically designed' for the Kinetic kit was a different size so was equally unusable, despite being a nice piece of resin in its own right. The other frustration with this kit was the really variable kit fit quality, as seen in this review. Sometimes it was jaw droppinly good, and then other times it was 1970's Frog kit bad. Considering the recent offerings by the likes of Zvezda, Meng, Eduard, Kinetic will only ever get my custom in the future if it is a subect that no other manufacturer does
I'm trying to build the F-16XL now. this thing is a pain. The aircraft is challenging for sure. It looks good built and painted. The pylons for the weapons call for parts that aren't even included in the kit. there are now sway braces for any of the 18 or so weapon pylons which are clearly shown in the direction. They aren't even in the parts map.
I think Kinetic really dropped the ball with this one. Their new F-16 Gold Standard is apparently much better and I have one to build towards the end of the year so lets see! Thanks for watching, may the struggle continue
No this is on the pressure gauge of the compressor. Best way to set it is fill the compressor, press the air feed on the airbrush and then set the gauge when the air feed is settled. There is always a small drop in pressure as you first start the feed on the brush so set the gauge once it is constant.
Can’t blame you. I did the same thing and went and bought the tamiya kit! Keep bringing us great content. P.S. I love the paint stand and hope to get motivated enough to make some use of my purchase 😊
Modelling is meant to be an enjoyable experience, right? I have little time for energy sucking kits. Hope the stand helps you as much as it does for me and thanks for watching :)
Lucky for us they have a new F-16 tool which I have in the stash, the F-16C. The Minibase Su-33 is meant to be an almighty kit. Best of luck and thanks for watching :)
I have always liked your opinions, reviews and more, and not always everything is honey, but that is the risk before any model we put together, or not.
Currently battling with the Kinetic F21 Kfir, useless instructions, sprues within sprues, bad fits. Will be putting what I've made on the shelf of shame.
Oh god, I have one of these. Maybe I'll just put in the bin now rather than go through the pain I did with the Kitty Hawk Jaguar GR1/3 kit. Everything was warped on that kit and it sucked the mojo clean out of me.
I have seen very nice models made from this kit, but I'm not sure I have the will to deal with all of the problems. It got me to the point I didn't want to actually go and model. Not fun. If you also build for fun and not frustration, I'm sure you can see from the video this might be worth keeping on the shelf or selling on. Thanks for watching :)
I had made (tried) an F-16 years ago and remember that the kit just did not fit. I recently made an F-104 with good fit but the right side of the fuselage had deeper panel lines than the left one.. in all i think kinetic are trying to run before they learn to walk. An abundance of interesting jet subjects but with poor outcomes.
nicely done video. may I suggest ditching the Perfect PLastic Putty though? I did cringe when i heard that! I would recommend sprue goo or a lacquer based putty depending on exactly what you need to do - PPP risk of drying and cracking as water based is why I stopped using it. Anyway, just my 2p and again, nicely done video. Thanks, Nick
Thank you. I have tried AK's putty and actually prefer that one now because of the reasons you mentioned. The PPP is too brittle once set and has cracked one too many times now. Thanks for watching :)
It was odd watching this video knowing that I wasn't gonna see a complete model at the end. Still enjoyed it though. I think the worst kit I've done in the last few years is probably the revell 1/48 tornado GR4. Absolute pig. Also a revell typhoon that I haven't finished either.
It was odd editing he video to give it some sort of story which didn't have an ending also. I have Revell 1/48 Tornado GR.1 in the stash (Eduard Desert Babe rebox) so I'm a little daunted by the prospect of having another kit like this to make in the future... Revell's Typhoon is bad too, I built one of those way back and wasn't impressed either. Thanks for watching :)
Yeah, i think we all have these moments in modelling, mine was ICM's mig-25pd. I got ALL the extras, even custom cut and adjusted the intake lips and internal intake variable ramps adjustments for "in flight" mode. I dropped almost $200 usd on this kit, halfway through i very much wanted to take it outside and kick it across the field why i didnt? 1. Bc im a huge mig-25 fan 2. Bc i had every intention hyper realism on one 3 well, the aforementioned $200. Well icm had other ideas, there were gaps and ridges on EVERY major piece, the intakes and nose didnt align on the inner brace, every piece like yours needed some sort of adjustment or cleaning, parts were pictured in the assembly wrong on not explained, just lines poont ing to a blind side of the piece, so i had to use reference pics just to see where certain parts were supposed to actually get placed. Absolute nightmare. I had to literally force myself through that one, it took me 1 year and 3 months.
@@ninus17 I remember fuselage halves not lining up very well, left a terrible seam to file/sand down, ejector marks and misshapen pieces. Let's not talk about the pilot figures....
I remember I was building a 109 G2 From Ravel 1:32 scale which was kind of an odd scale but I I Struggled the whole build just how your kit is so I used it to experiment with new painting methods and it worked out really good but all the parts didn’t really fit well and I was doing more cutting sanding and cutting board on it then actually putting the model together and it burned me out so badly I actually quit modeling for about A month
I built this recently as well. Agree 100%, but I finished mine in a month. With all the issues, the kit will be suitable for display but not for contest. Sad.
I have aproblem with 1/72 F-16D from Kinetic because the canopy can not be closed perfectly with its cockpit. Anyway, I enjoy watching your videoes. Thanks .
@@TheInnerNerd I've been working on some WWI Bi-Planes. I have a Neuport 17 on the desk right now and are fighting with the rigging. I notice that you always wait until the model is fairly assembled before laying primer on the outside of the plane. I am finding that difficult due to the strings hanging all over the aircraft. I had to paint first, assemble, putty, sand and then spot re-paint everything. Any tips from the wise?
i got the same problems, with the kinetic model kit of fouga cm 170r in 1/48, the instruccions have wrong id #s, not correctly kind of color instruccions, and some parts doesn´t fit good
Kinetic seem to miss the target with most of their kits it seems reading through these comments. The gold standard are good, but these blue box ones need to be looked at seriously. Thanks for watching :)
I’m a big F-16 fan and all the Kinetic F-16’s in 1/48 look so tempting..But all I’ve heard from modelers and model reviewers is the Kinetic 1/48 F-16’s are a nightmare and not any fun to build..I’m steering clear of the Kinetic F-16’s..Shame really..But if a skilled modeler like you are frustrated by them..Then a fella like me would be totally clueless.. Thanks for a great video of a crazy Kinetic build..👍
They all share the same mould unfortunately. I didn't realise this until after I got this kit, or I'd have stayed clear too! It's a shame because Kinetic have so many F-16 versions that will all suffer from the same issues. Thanks for watching :)
Back in the old days, there were no aftermarket details, no computers, no awesome details built in. We had to scratchbuild (no 3d printing nonsense) re scribe panels, etc., etc. They didn't just fall together the way they do now. With all the money, tools, and supplies you obviously have, what you really need is more skill and patience.
I think the real issue is that you spend a fair amount of money for some of these new kits, and for the price you pay, you (rightfully) expect a very nicely molded and engineered kit. Not perfect (nothing is), but high quality. You can expect fit issues on older kits, especially more current reissues of said kits, but in these higher priced modern kits, to me it's inexcusable.
Well it's a good job we moved on from the good old days or we'd still be living in caves... When you build for fun and the kit is only offering frustration and annoyance, I call it a day. As I said at the end of the video, I understand there is modelling in modelling and shaking the box and it's made isn't much fun either. But I genuinely didn't want to go and do any modelling because of this one. This isn't about patience or skill, this is about enjoying. I've built more complicated kits than this before, I've built worse fitting kits than this before, but I enjoyed that challenge. This I did not, so it didn't get finished. I've only ever not finished one other kit so far so I'm not doing bad, I just wasn't feeling this one. Thanks for watching :)

Worst kit, PE 2 from MPM, so bad I threw it away before I even got the fuselage together

LOL 2008 is an old kit? Now THAT is funny.
@@ScottKenny1978 Yes, that, quite recent overall. A run thru scalemates points to probably 90% of kits being older than that.
If you leave decals in the water before they release from the backing, you risk washing or diluting the adhesive off the marking. Dipping the decal in warm water and then laying it aside on a dish or aluminum paint pallet allows the adhesive to release without the risk of dilution and, ultimately, curling
Okay cool! Thanks for the tip, I shall do that on my next build. Thanks for watching :)
Yeah dude as soon as I saw you with it on IG I knew you were in trouble. It’s a fit nightmare I shelved too
Seems annoying.. I wish Tamiya made more versions..
Wow. I have a Kinetic F-18 and Pucara....hope those aren't dumpster fires. I really wanted to get this Sufi...sad to hear it's a POS.
You did way better than I would have. It's sad that, for what we pay, we deserve better kits than that. Thank you for posting this. 😊
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Should of filled it with bangers and blown it up, has brought a satisfied smile to my face in the past
I also have same experience with kitty hawk jaguar. After few steps in i put it in the bin. I understand the frustration
I have found that any Roden kit I build is the worst kit I've ever built. Don't know why I keep trying.
@@tommyboyscalemodeling4988 maybe because they offer rather esotheric subjects. No other company has released the early He 111s in 72nd, let alone in 48th.
For me,the worst one I built is F18C hasegawa(early kit)
great vid buddy , Im a armour modeller normally , i had a very old Trumpeter Tank transporter kit i half built a while ago , it was a pig , i threw it out the window , it happens , better to move on lol..
I think my worst kit was a 1/24 or 1/25 Thunderbird SC. Intercooler at the top of the engine had a nearly 1/8" gap between it and the air filter box.
This was the same experience I had with Kinetics Legacy Hornet. One obstacle to overcome after another. I couldn't wait to be done with it.
I got Tamiya's 1/48 F-16C/D kit with some PE and decals for other schemes for £20 :D...I was eyeing this one up, thankfully I passed and got a lovely Eduard Fw190 instead
I had problems with the canopy fit on a Kinetics F-16 kit as well.
I didn't get that far but I have read that this is another area that causes problems on the Kinetic F-16 moulds. Thanks for watching :)
There is tips and tricks regarding this kit that can help. It is not a bad kit at all, but it is a tricky one.
Lovely ending though.
Thanx!
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Another excetional build, thank you for being out there for us nerds I love how you bagged it all, "
Im not having fun anymore" Alot could use that advice in life
Thank you, and thanks for watching :)
What a mare, spent the build giggling at it, but hey, the bench is awesome!
So sorry for the problems you’ve experienced, but that’s modeling! We learn by building, and hopefully don’t have to smash kits! Happy days and model on! 😎
There is nothing to learn from a badly produced kit, and that’s not “modelling” at all…
It’s the kind of crap that can kill a hobby.
Very entertaining video, loved the workbench tour at the end
It sure is a pain this kit... I built mine about 2years ago for a group build.. did same add lots of aftermarket and trouble fitting it all together was made worse by the instructions.. came out OK in end but was a lot of work
try any revell kit from before 1990. Further you go back in time, more insane it gets ... you are welcome :)
I always knew that Kinetic f-16s had problems(I really hoped with the "new parts" of the Sufa they would fix the problems). I had great expectations for this kit.... but this is Revell quality from the 80s
At least the Revell kits fit together better though, at least the JU 87B and Hesnchel 129 I built fit good together, just not very detailed.
I got my wife started with small, cheap kits. I remember her efforts on a 1:72 Michell, after which she promptly dashed it against the wall.
Kinetic kits are really a hit or miss
Whack, whack, whack!!! There now, doesn't that feel better?! 😉 Thanks for the tour 👍
I've found kinetic very varied in terms of quality, the gold series 104's are awesome, as I know from my own experience the SUFA is awful
It appears one of your aircraft is missing...I did the same with Minicrap's Lockheed Electra. Quite satisfying indeed. Model On!😀🎸🖖✈
I wanted a nice heavy F-16 in the collection but this one wasn't to be... Onto the next one! Thanks for watching :)
The Me 262 had all of its rivets puttied and sanded flush. So you won’t really find an accurate one
@@TheModelGuy
Same with the Mustang.
What was the issue with the Kitty Hawk Juguar? I was looking at getting one.
Actually, that's a good point. I have a bunch of unsuccessful builds that have been really useful as test mules.
@@ethanreus5018 loads of fit issues and poor instructions. If you want to open it all up it's easier I think but it's still huge a struggle.
I bought a Kinetic 1/72 F-16i Sufa about a year ago but I haven't assembled it yet. I hope it doesn't cause me trouble
If it's not fun it's time to stop. Then release that frustration somehow haha. Thanks for watching :)
I like your set up. At the moment I build my models in my garden shed but would like to have enough space for a dedicated modeling area.
Oh no...I was just planning the same. Say it ain't so.
You should try A6 Intruder by Kinetic... nothing... and I mean it fits! Cheers from Argentina...
There are quite a few aftermarket products that fix a lot of those problems. Cockpit, Nose, you purchased the exhaust the 3D printed instruments wheels. For a kit that cost as much as this one you should have invested a little more, I think you would have been pleased.
Or for that amount he could have invested all those parts on a kit worth his time, not trying to repair a bad kit.
I have seen this kit shine in other modelers
hands.
Just love to watch your movies. Even when you have to smash the plane at the end. That can hapen, enough is enough. Keep on the great work👍
I had same issues with their fs2 sea harrier nice fit in bits horrible fit other parts and covered in seem lines
Felt the same way after starting some Special Hobby kits. Their Spitfire Vc was terrible.
1/48 Airfix Buccaneer..........now that was a mare to build due to EVERYTHING in this kit being so so poor
2 piece nose cone is always bad sign...
That is interesting about the 3d decals, i did not know they existed, great channel liked and subbed.
please explain something: when you call out psi on your airbrush, is that a preset setting on a better compressor? or are you just watching the gauge?
No this is on the pressure gauge of the compressor. Best way to set it is fill the compressor, press the air feed on the airbrush and then set the gauge when the air feed is settled. There is always a small drop in pressure as you first start the feed on the brush so set the gauge once it is constant.
Love your work bench area, shame about the build though. Quick question regarding your camera mount, where did you get it from and wot is it called?
Hello and thank you. The camera mount is from Manfrotto here www.manfrotto.com/uk-en/single-arm-3-section-196ab-3/
3D decals, what a neat idea!
The first few seconds are an accurate depiction of how frustrated one can get when working with kinetic
I have had the very same problems with the Su-33 F by Kinetic... I sadly abandonded the build and go the Minibase kit

Best of luck and thanks for watching! :)
The vertical fin needed to cut and stick parts to build 16I version. It is hard to fill the line gap.
Giving a whole new meaning to the phrase "kit bashing."
Very true haha. Thanks for watching :)
nicely done video. may I suggest ditching the Perfect PLastic Putty though?
I had to literally force myself through that one, it took me 1 year and 3 months.
nice.. and on that note i'm piss'n off down to strips and rods for a pint..
That remains me to the Revell Bell UH-1D 1/32.
I agree. That huey kit sucks.
It is from '67 or '68. Working features on kits were big at that time, which unfortunately affects accuracy and detail.
@@mh53j i dont mind working features but the kit i have almost none of the parts fit
Nice smash, but can you save the cockpit?
I built this recently as well. Agree 100%, but I finished mine in a month. With all the issues, the kit will be suitable for display but not for contest. Sad.
I have aproblem with 1/72 F-16D from Kinetic because the canopy can not be closed perfectly with its cockpit. Anyway, I enjoy watching your videoes. Thanks .
The older blue bix Kinetic kits are a tough build. Their new F16 is much better, luckily. Thanks for watching :)
I had that kit a few years ago, I didn’t get as far as you & binned it.
It's really not a good build from the start. The new black boxed gold standard from Kinetic builds much better, thankfully
Curiosamente Italeri presenta los mismos problemas para F16 B, no me di por vencido y quedo muy bien con un esquema venezolano.
What's on the bench now? An Antonov AN-2 perhaps?
I've got a 1/32 Bf109E-4, my first proper go at a 1/32 scale kit :)
Thanks for watching :)
you should build the italeri AH1W its a beutiful model helicopter i really enjoy building italeris models
