How To Prime and Start a Saito Gas Radial

  • Heres my method of priming and starting the gas radial series from Saito. This works on the fg-19r3 through the fg-90r3. All you need to do is open the throttle to full and use a fuel bulb in the vent line of your fuel tank to pressurize the tank which will push some fuel into the carb.

Thats the smartest idea I'd ever seen in my entire life

    Many many thanks for sharing.
The first time ever I can hand start my Saito radial, with your method.

This method looks ingenious! I have a single cylinder FG40, but I took the idea from here and remembered if the throttle is closed completely (throttle valve fully closed) the fuel pumping mechanism is actually very effective! So now I assigned a switch so I can fully close the throttle on demand to act as a choke, and then set throttle back to idle for a flick start. So bypassing the pressurisation of the tank all together, and usually the engine starts pretty easily...

Great tip, mine is a PITA to start and this has helped!

Great idea you came up with. Be good with long-standing engines.

To everyone who has a saito radial thats rather hard to start: I do the same like showed in this vid (i'm using a syringe to put pressure into the tank), but after the fuel drips out of the carb i first close the throttle (keep the syringe on) and flip the prop 2-3 times - to make sure the fuel gets sucked in the motor, so i got a little choke effect (very rich mix). Then i take off the Syringe, switch on the ignition and flip the prop. This method works perfect on my FG60 and it starts sooo much better then before !

That's very clever, I'll try it this weekend on my 60 R3! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks great tip. It's always the way when your filming engine plays up It's it knows😁

I had a single cylinder glow four stroke that I would two over by hand slowly until I felt a bump. I would then snap the prop backwards to make pre ignite and that would start it. No fuss no effort and it worked every time .

Thanks for sharing this - it really helped me a lot ! Special thanks for not cutting out the part of the vid when the motor didn't start at the first prime. Because mine did the same when i first tried that, so i thought the trick didn't work - but then i rememberd that it was the same in your vid, i primed again and it fired right up !

ballsdead1 Sure thing!! Yes sometimes mine will start on the first flip and sometimes I need to reprime, no big deal. Glad I could help.

Sure thing! I’ve actually had them fire on the first flip but yes most of the time I have to prime twice.

Where did you get that wonderful collective muffler and where did you get the remote ignition?

    • @Timbers25
      @Timbers25  6 ปีที่แล้ว

sml123ism The collector muffler is made by Keleo Creations which is now owned by CH Ignitions. www.ch-ignitions.com/product-category/keleo-rings/ . The remote ignition shutoff module is called a “Opto Kill switch by RCExel”. You can Google and find them at most hobby places online. Ebay has them too!! Heres a link to that: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F361132570801

Jos Haas Yes it is. The FG-19R3 doesn’t fit wel under the cowl so I had to purchase a larger cowl and custom paint it. I purchased a larger cowl from Fiberglass Specialities

Dont need this for FG90 because it has a carburetor with choke😉
