  • Welcome back to the channel! Today we are changing the transmission fluid for our 2017 Chevy Spark 5 speed manual. Very quick and easy job and the best to maintain your vehicle. The recommended fluid is 75w85 but that is a bit hard to find, you could also use 75w90 gear oil as I am using from Valvoline or any other brand. I trust Valvoline and went with them. I will be leaving a link down below of the gear oil and fluid pump I used for the video! Don’t forget to like comment and subscribe!

    Excellent job Daniel. The fluid looked pretty clean as it was coming out of the drain plug but the steel filings on the magnet showed the wear and tear. Appreciate the time and effort you took in your presentation. . thanks again!

    RockAuto sells the AC Delco GL4 75W-85 Manual Transmission Fluid for about $12 a quart. FYI. Just bought a 2019 5spd with 54k. Going to change it as well. Thx for the vid. M300 2010-2016 and M400 2016-2022 purportedly have 2.1L capacity or 2.22 qts. Service interval is 45k miles. I drain just a hair over 2 qts from my 19. Could only get 1.75 qts back using the side fill plug. Put the remaining 8oz in using the 14mm drain plug on the front of the case. I tried running the trans fwd and rev to sling it around to any voids inside but still wouldn’t take any more than 1.75 qts using the side fill plug. Figure it came from Korea with 2 qts so it got back what came out of it. 😉

    Thank you! My 2022 should be the same. You take a lot of the fear out of the project. Smart move, changing the fluid way before the prescribed mileage. It's probably the break in period that causes most of the shavings. (I feel bad for anyone who has this car with the CVT. Going to the grocery store with the 5 speed feels like I'm driving in a rally!)

    Really should use something that's gl4 approved. Amsoil has an oil for trans axles that is meant for synchronizers. It's expensive but it is meant for this

  • @nathanaelblankley4008

    Is that Gl-5 gear oil? I've read that it can damage the synchros in the transmission. How has it held up over the course of the year? A shop just put a Gl-5 gear oil in, and I'm having them replace it with the OEM fluid like they should have. I'm considering doing it myself, but I've never really worked on a car before.

    • @Danruns13
      @Danruns13  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t remember exactly I would have to look at it again but from what I remember it was GL-4. I’ve had it now for 25k and not a single issue. I’m gonna be replacing it again when I hit 30k just to keep it fresh but I haven’t had one issue

      @@Danruns13 yeah they used Mobil 1 in mine, and that one's definitely GL-5. But I'm glad that Valvoline worked in yours!

      @@nathanaelblankley4008 Valvoline works for both GL-4 and GL-5. The following statement is directly from the Valvoline website: "Recommended for conventional and limited slip differentials and non-synchronized manual transmissions where API GL-5 or API GL-4 fluid is specified".

    • @nathanaelblankley4008
      @nathanaelblankley4008 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jerrylingle4447 Well, in my case, they didn't put Valvoline in but an oil from another brand that wasn't meant for manual transmissions. And aren't most manual transmissions in cars synchronous?

    I have 3 different codes--all transmission codes. Idk where to start but is my best bet to change the tranny fluid first? I'm experiencing severely reduced power in drive, sometimes it doesn't always shift into reverse, gear slippage (I think) and it appears the car isn't recognizing what gear it's in. Codes P2714, P0871 and P0706 are what came up on the reader. Also, key doesn't want to come out of the ignition most of the time now. Idk if that is related to the tranny issues or not though. Thank you!

      I’m not a professional mechanic, I would suggest getting it checked out by a shop. The video I posted was more for maintenance on the manual transmission, not really to fix or diagnose issues. It says online that changing fluid does sometimes help clear codes

    Hello and good day to you thank you for the video but my question is is there a dipstick for you to check the transmission fluid on the 2017 Chevy Spark???

    • @Danruns13
      @Danruns13  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it is sealed, that’s why it’s good to measure how much comes out so you can put back in. Basically 2.2 quarts

    Thanks for the video . Do u know what type of manual transmission fluid for a sonic 2013 RS 1.4 turbo and the capacity please

    • @Danruns13
      @Danruns13  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use 75w-90 and it’s 3.4 pints

    That is not the correct fill plug, it’s to the right of the drain plug above the cv axel

      What does this top fill location go to? I seen older sparks with the one you are talking about. This is a 2017 and I seen another video of this top blue line 14mm being the fill plug. So maybe you can tell us where this 14mm plug fills?

    • @kevinpeterson4098
      @kevinpeterson4098 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The way he did it was correct! I just drained and filled my 2018 Spark in the exact locations and plugs as him. I even drained a little from the drain plug to make sure after I filled it back with fluid.What came out was 1.5 quarts. I put 3 quarts in and let out maybe .5 quarts. It shifts great.
