Sailor Moon is a shojo anime about Usagi Tsukino, a 14 year old teenager who becomes a super hero and fights enemies keen on wreaking havoc on the world. The anime and manga is copyright Naoko Takeuchi and Toei Animation. The manga comics were originally serialized in 1991, and the anime in 1992. Now at it's 30th anniversary, this media franchise is aimed at adult women who watched Sailor Moon in the 90's. My channel is directed and targeted towards women from ages 18-44 who were, and still are, fans of Sailor Moon. 0% of my audience includes persons under the age of 18. Videos include merchandise reviews of adult clothing lines, pricey and fragile collectibles, jewelry, and women's accessories.

TO WHAT?! The movie was horrible. It flopped so hard. It only made $1,000,000+ WORLDWIDE!🤣 You know bad that is? That's why they had to sell it to Netflix so back because the reception and earnings were a catastrophe. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train made 400+ million in Japan alone! This continues to prove that the SMC reboot is trash and that trying to turn a poorly constructed and dated manga does not translate well into screenplay at. Every was contrived, rushed, and discombobulated. Literally one of the worst movies ever made, and it looked like low-effort crap. Nothing about it looked cinematic in pedigee, scope, and quality. They had 5 years! This was embarrassing.

@@DrawingMagicBoy The movie was anything but beautiful. It was contrived, rushed, unfelt, cringey, and low budget. And WRONG, the movie's numbers isn't because of the pandemic. Demon Slayer made over $400 million dollars in the middle of a pandemic in Japan ALONE. Sailor Moon Eternal made under $2 million dollars. The movie FLOPPED because it wasn't worth seeing. No one cares. SMC was a horrible series and set the tone for how the rest will be treated.

@@tkm1875 I think more people would have watched it if the trailer dropped more sooner and the marketing was more good. And the movie was gorgeous and amazing compared to Sailor moon Crystal season 1&2. It was more nicer than season 3 too. I don't think it was one of the worst movies ever made because I seen worse. And I agree it was not cinematic enough to be a good movie but still, it has nice moments too. The final battle was very smooth and the music was amazing too. I just wish they put more effort into it.

@@DrawingMagicBoy The movie looked inferior to every other anime film released in 2020. The aesthetic and overall treatment of the movie was not cinematic at all. It wasn't a good movie. The Sailor Moon manga isn't designed to be a movie. They were marketing the movie for virtually a year, the movie just sucked. The Sailor Moon brand has dwindled, but the reputation of SMC in general is not good.

I really enjoyed both films. They were gorgeous. There's always room for improvement, but they are nowhere near as bad as some fans are making them out to be.
I was in love with the visuals, the music and thought the pacing was fine for cramming an entire arc into two films.
I do wish we'd seen the generals, but for the pace, I see why that was cut. If they ever split this into episodes (how they did the Dragon Ball films with Super), maybe we'll get those scenes animated.
I get that some fans are upset that it all happened so fast, but that was always going to be the case since it's directly based on the manga.

As somebody who hasn't read the Manga fully, this movie turned what many claim to be the worst Arc in the series(anime wise anyway), into one of the best! Every Sailor Guardian got time to shine, the soundtrack was great as always and most of the animation was top-tier! Also, I love the songs that played during the credits. A nice salute to the original anime. The Final Arc( supposedly) is going to be great

I watched the movie together with a friend who doesn't know Sailor Moon yet and we had different experiences.
For me, as a fan, the movie was great overall. I am very happy they were true to the manga, the sound effects and music throughout the movie really take you in into the story and the colors and visuals were stunning. Although I would have preferred if the arc was made into different episodes rather than so many episodes into a movie. I did have the feeling everything was going on at the same time and I had no time to process what was going on when I first watched it, the more I watch the movie (already watched 6 times...) the more I like it.
My friend who is not so familiar with Sailor Moon thought the pacing was too fast and because she found it hard to follow the story line she didn't understand what exactly was going on and who were these characters that kept popping up all the time. Although she mentioned that the pacing in the second movie was much better.
I totally relate to you when I saw the scenes in Tokyo. 😍 I lived in Japan for a few months in Minato, near Azabu Juban and I used to go to that café with the green awning (the café is called Honolulu and you can see it in the scene where the girls were talking about the outer guardians and Minako gets upset).

  • @uilliamunknown4844

Watched it last night. It wasn’t for me.
I honestly felt the story was anticlimactic, rushed and cliche… like Nehelenia cursing Usagi like Maleficent because she wasn’t invited to a party. Like that’s it? That’s all the character development Nehelenia gets it?
And Chibi-Usa’s obsession with her dad is just weird. Like I understand wanting to find a guy who has the same qualities as your dad but actually crushing on your dad is another issue. That was something I never got, even as a kid.
As a long time Moonie fan (since I was a kid watching the ‘95 Dic Dub) the Sailor Moon Crystal reboot has personally for me been forgettable and a huge disappointment. Sailor Moon is an icon and deserves better.
I don’t know if it’s because of the source material (which in itself was rushed - which makes me wonder why Naoko Takeuchi herself wasn’t involved with the screenplay of the reboot since she didn’t like the 90’s version. The manga/show is her legacy! This was her chance to perfect the series and tell the story how she wanted) or if it was because of how they chose to adapt it, but something is missing.
I struggled to watched it and honestly was confused at times. A movie/adaptation should be able to stand on its own and not have its audience rely on prior knowledge to understand the plot.
But whatever for those who liked it, I am sincerely happy for you, it just wasn’t for me.

In my opinion this movie (I only have seen part 1) feels super rushed, like it is on a race to go through all the important plot points and doesn't let you soak in the story and care about what the characters are going through. Ami's soul is being poisoned by Fish Eye's dark powers, she is being filled by insecurity and doubt aaaaaand 2 minutes later she got a power up and Fish Eye is gone and Ami is perfectly fine. Apply the same formula for the other senshi that need to be repowered. But I have to admit that I really liked Jupiter's part and all the Hawk Eye's stuff.
Oh! And you are right with the transformations, they're an improvement over the Crystal ones. The one that looks super weird is Super Sailor Moon's and Chibi Moon's transformation that's being lifted from 90's SuperS (same for their final special attack).
This movie is a very odd Frankenstein of the previous Sailor Moon iterations.

I think that eternal was originally going to be a TV series but decided to make a movie given the quality. I think what Toei should've done is marry the 90s anime with the manga version. Disagree with you about the background music. The series has MUCH better music. The movie background music is a lot more subtle and less intense, not allowing me to take it as serious during important or emotional scenes.
The animation is much better, definitely.
I agree, they followed the manga very closely, which means it feels rushed. In my opinion, Naoko Takeuchi is a lazy writer and made very short, very rushed sequences. But she had an amazing story plot.
That being said, overall I’d rate the movies a C+.
Having the voice acting and animation being its strengths, yet having the background music and notion to stay as closely to the manga as possible, as its weakness.

    • @JuneieBack
      @JuneieBack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I wouldn’t say she was lazy writer. Especially since she had to come up with a story and draw each manga chapter within a time span of a week. The problem is the time crunch. She had to work on the manga in order for the stories to be told in the 90’s anime. This is especially hard because the anime had new episodes all throughout the year and usually didn’t take breaks between seasons. I do wish that Crystal overall had given each season 26 episodes so that every arc had time to flesh out storylines and characters that Takeuchi didn’t have the time to develop. Her best work in the series were the smaller character moments that the first two seasons on Crystal skipped out on and the various side stories that she wrote. (Example: Ami’s First Love) When she had time to develop the characters even in the smallest moments her writing shined the most.

    • @alicepie3660
      @alicepie3660 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I wouldn't say she an lazy writer as the first comment stated she was in a very tough situation also sailor moon is her first official Manga. Yes she started Codename Sailor V first, but shortly after made sailor moon and since that was more popular all her focus went into it that she ended up finishing sailor moon Manga first despite the fact she started sailor v Manga first. So sailor moon is more her first Manga ever made.

Some thoughts after watching both parts on Jun 03:
Graphics: Better than 90s anime in terms of resolution (Full HD). Creativity-wise, a bit plain (transformations for eg). Hoping for a more lively Mercury transformation for eg, but well, it's ok.
Audio: Prefer watching in Japanese, so didn't have a chance to compare. Personally feel that the voice acting for Amazon Trio (Tiger, Fish, Hawk) stood out.
Content: Some might feel a bit lost if you haven't read or don't intend to read the manga. My introduction to SM was Anime format, so didn't know what was going on for some parts.
Overall: Would be nice if this was adapted into mini-series, if not full. The pacing does feel a bit rushed, so don't really feel much for the story and characters. Still glad to watch (mostly) true to manga adaptations.

I've only seen the OG anime and the Pegasus content is my least favourite, although I love the Amazonette Quartet and Queen Nehelenia, so I appreciate this movie since it is so much more truncated compared to the anime. season 4 of the anime felt so long until they get to Nehelenia.

@@SailorSnubs Accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the thing you can and have the wisdom to know the difference I love this because it is the most important thing of the Serenity prayer that is the meaning quote to the manga, crystal and eternal meant and this is something that Sailor Moon have to choose in the final arc of the manga. The quote of Serenity thing that happen during all five arcs of the manga and Crystal and Eternal accept the things I cannot change: when Usagi and Mamoru arrive at the restore Moon Kingdom after defeating Metalia Luna tells her that she's now the new queen of the resurrected Moon Kingdom, but Usagi denies, saying that she would rather stay with her loved ones back on Earth, where she now belonged and she realize that she cant's bring back the way they were of what happen 1,000 of years. Have the courage to change the things I can: Sailor Moon and her friends realize that it's too late to bring back does how already blessed their loyalty to your evil lord and master like Beryl, Demande, Dr. Tomoe, and Sailor Galaxia but they can at least stop there lord and master from destroying the world. And have the wisdom to know the difference: This is were Sailor Moon have make a choose of what you said destroy the Cauldron which everything will change that will make world completely different or not destroy the Cauldron but Chaos comes back start a war al over again history might repeat it self and she chooses neither she choose her own path and sacrifices herself once again but then Guardian Cosmos the small but powerful guardian of the Cosmos Crystal, resided within the Galaxy Cauldron saw Usagi in the Cauldron, she was surprised that Usagi and her friends could retain their physical forms within the Cauldron. She asked Usagi if she had come to the Cauldron to throw her life into it and start a new star's history, or if she wanted to live as she was. Given the choice, Usagi said that she wanted to live her life as she was, no matter how difficult it might be, to build a future together. Guardian Cosmos granted their wish, and as they were being pulled away, Usagi asked about Chaos. Guardian Cosmos told them that Guardian Chaos and the Chaos Seed had been dissolved into the Cauldron, but could be born again and that act that could save everything even if alters thing the risk seen worth it Sailor Moon now has the wisdom to know the difference accepting what she can't change and changing what she can and that's is the most important meaning quote of the Serenity prayer of the manga, crystal and eternal of Sailor Moon.

I think the 2 movies helped condense the story well enough, even if we had to sacrifice little funny moments like with Mama Ikuko. I think a 13 episode format would've felt dragged-on. The sad thing is I felt the animation was still very "average to lacking" in a lot of parts...

Omg watching the movie was so hard , the animation and art style was so bad , and by would you want to go back to bad animation when they clearly looked better is the previous seasons. They had no figure , they lacked detail in shading , the whole pastel bright colors what bad, they lost the delicate features and uniqueness of the manga style and they skipped the whole NIGHTMARE SAULIT MOON MELTING SCENE. WTF sailor is suppose to Melt not turn to stone .!!!it had so much potential. The planet princes just look like they belonged at a stag prom and they could have don’t a better job.

The movie was horrible. It flopped so hard. It only made $1,000,000+ WORLDWIDE!🤣 You know bad that is? That's why they had to sell it to Netflix so back because the reception and earnings were a catastrophe. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, a REAL MOVIE, made 400+ million in Japan alone!
