  • I drive the beautiful Dovre Mountain Range on my way down to the off-road area in Elvedalen.
    My 2008 Land Rover Discovery 3 has gone through a bunch of off-road modifications and upgrades and this initial drive is the start of the many tests the car will have to go through this year.
    The Dovre Mountain Range lays between Oppdal in the North and Dombås in the south, if you follow the E6 road in Norway. If the weather is good you will get some amazing views driving here.
    On the "top" at Hjerkinn visiting center and intersection, you can either go and watch the Musk Ox's at the Snøhetta view point, or you can take of against Rondane and one of my favorite free wild camps.

    I followed you since you got your prospeed rack. It's great to see you build the D3, maybe now that you are doing more 4x4 overlanding I would suggest bring a spare tension rod bolt in the rear. Mine broke during a mojave trail overlanding here in California, luckily another D3/LR3 had a spare and also tools. I have RTT , sliders, sump guard etc and weight might be a culprit and harsh road 😂

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the tip and for following along! 😊 I have been thinking of what spares I need to bring and a common list amongst D3 owners would have been nice. I looked at spare drive shafts and found that you need both sides which is kind of a pain. 😅 I would love to come over to the States at some point, the 4x4 scene seems to be off the chart's compared to the little we see here in Norway. The car weight and the trails you got there is probably much more harder for the Disco then anything mine will see, for now at least. 🤙

      Thank you and I find it nice to show some of the cars there. Gives you kind of a feeling of how it's like to walk around there. And the best part is that everyone loves to talk and tell the stories of their cars and how they came to be the way they are. 👌 I wish I had time to film them all. 😅 Next part is coming and hopefully next Sunday. Will start the edit tomorrow. 👍

    Very jealous Simon. What a beautiful country you have...reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands.
    Some fantastic looking vehicles there...especially "Hercules". All topped off with a proper barbeque. 🍖🥓🥩🧆
    Slightly worried about going off roading with no spare though 😮

      @LandRoverDrive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That’s good, then I’ve done something right in the edit. 👍😊 It’s beautiful in Norway and loads of things to see and experience. 🏔️👌 I would love to visit other Scottish Highlands at some point, I sort of feel I have a connection to it somehow. 🤔 I would love to see Hercules up close and do a video of it. I know he has done a rebuild of it now so it’s supposed to be even cooler now. 😊 Off-road, friends and good food, can’t ask for anything more really. When it comes to the spare wheel, I was a bit worried in the rocky sections for sure. 😅 But I guess a safe way to be “living on the edge” 😂

    As someone who used to design and build timberframe structures, that bridge collapse is worrisome. Especially as the authorities don’t seem to have recognized that there are some very likely serious structural flaws with this system. It appears as though there are other such bridges in Norway and Sweden, one of which also suffered a catastrophic failure. Be careful driving over them. GluLam and weathering steel is a bad combination in hostile environments 😬

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, don't know the real reason but I heard mention of the the wood around the bolts being pulled out in blocks and the diagonals being overloaded to 200%. I haven't read the report, if you watch the 2018 overland series, I think, we drive over that bridge in the first episode.

    I enjoyed the scenery and drone shots. In my opinion having a spare is a must in any driving situation, but especially when off-roading. I would suggest laying one flat on the back floor and using some netting to secure it. Not preaching, just making a suggestion. Good luck to you!

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey and thank you Jerry! 😊 I totally agree and this was a combination of no time to spare, pun intended, and no good solution for it at that moment. It's definitely not a good feeling driving around with no spare in general, and with trips in mind it just, let us say, not smart. 😅 A spare wheel carrier at the rear would be nice but I don't think I can add the weight without being over GVM and not road legal so maybe need to make something my self. 🤔 Any suggestions are appreciated. Simon

      Hey and thank you so much! Love to get feedback and great to hear the videos are improving. 🤗 The front guard, roof rack and the compressor guard is from Prospeed UK. Great company and service. Not the cheapest option but you get quality stuff. The rock sliders are custom made here in Norway by a Polish guy I found online, can't remember the name at the moment. They are loosely based of some other cheaper brand rock sliders, but these were made after my request, they are extended as long as possible and I also got a plate adde underneath to get a better sliding ability. They are also made from stainless steel so rust is not an issue this far. 😊

    Not sure how far you will take your land rover lr3 when it comes to products I just installed on my lr3 a product from ( land rover passion ) a rear inside molle panel that gose third roll windows and the Defender storage box on passenger side and ladder on driver side easy to do had to drill 4 holes 2 on top in oem roof rails area but sense I'm no longer using oem roof rail because I installed a front runner roof fack and I had to drill 4 holes 2 on each side to mount ladder and storage box , it really changing the way my land rover looks sense mine is a white lrs I going with a black and white theme , I also swap out ref taillights for a lr4 black taillights that has led really made my rear view pop and with the terra ferma rear spare tire swing out and also I mounted a 12 gallon spare take with the spare tire by titan tanks in spring I will start a you tube adventure channel , I only paid 1100 us for my lr3 and got 10 times that in upgrades and mechanical upgrades, I had transmission rebuilt a few Months ago but I still have a transmission fault I believe it's in my transfer case module, mine had corrosion in it I cleaned but no luck many people say replace this module and will fix my transmission fault and plus I need to reprogram my transmission, I travel for work so I am not home alone so this why a simple job takes weeks for me between my lr3 or Toyota fj cruiser they both love to give you simple issues that drove you nuts 😊

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey James! I'm not sure how far I will take the build but I will try and limit my self a bit, don't want it to get to heavy. I'm already seeing the wait go up as you saw in this video and need to keep it legal as it is our family car still. 😊 From what you hare writing I think you got a good thing going if you can get the faults fix and everything takes time when you go others to consider. Like my car, been building it for years and have years still on it to get it finished. But that's the charm of building a overlanding car, it's never really ever finish as it evolves from trip to trip. 😊 Think you like many of us got the 4x4 bug and can't help fixing and building on our dream cars. 👌 I like it! 😉

      You are completely right on weight and being over manufacturers Max's weight limit I own 8 vehicles my latest buy was a 2017 mercedes benz sprinter van I'm really looking forward to this build out my 05 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon has a weight of 3800 to a max limit of 4600 800 pay load I'm now at 5800 1200 over gross that includes front and rear bumper , winch , roof top tent , tons of upgrades a dual atlas transfer case for font and rear axle , a supercharger, 6in lift kit but no overlanding gear I live in Texas but the 11 western states are the ideal overlanding spots especially Colorado but with all this added weight fuel mileage sucks I am have to trailer my vehicle on trips by using my pickup truck to pull my off road vehicle my pickup has nothing done to it can haul/ pull 10,000 pounds gas here very expensive now so people don't go far because of this , my land rover in my garage I don't plan to add much more weight maybe a rooftop tent but with all sent folded down you can sleep inside , but I do believe once I replace transfer case module this fix my faults from what I seen on TH-cam but taking to dealer cost 3 times what the module cost to get it programed to my land rover lr3 but mine is a 4.4 v8 300hp plenty of power for overlanding trips light duty no Rock climbing I use my 05 jeep for this I am sure you seen lr time channel he taking maintenance to a whole new level most of won't come close too 😀
