Thank you Mark for what I believe to be your landmark programme on the post-war era. Seventy-five years on, people need to be reminded of not just the atrocities committed during the Shoah, but as you say the duplicity of the allies, other certain countries and the Vatican to allow these people to escape justice. In the end, one might realize that the dogmas, beliefs and attitudes towards Jews in the political landscape in 2020 have but little evolved since 1945. This is a great piece of a true historian's work and you should be commended for it. The truth needs to be told.

Many years ago, when I still went to school, I did some research about Klaus Barbie... after clicking through about 5 google result pages, I found the profile of one of my teachers (First name was Klaus) on an obscure (likely fetish) photo website where his profile -name was KlausBarbie... turned out that guy had a Barbie fetish.

Very informative! I had a good friend who was in the oss that told me that he was in France when it was liberated and his job was to get as many Nazis scientists to the USA as fast as he could to beat the Russians from doing the same! He was aided by the fact that in the us the scientists knew they would be treated and live well! Where as in Russia the opposite was true! He told me of French justice where French German collaborators were forced to dig their own graves ! Many atrocities we're comitited during the war and afterwards! Most people do not relize that the world we live in today and the inventions we injoyand use today are in large part because of the Nazis you talk about! Werner von Braun was a high profile top Nazi official very close to Hitler who used slave labor to do his work and hid from the Russians untill he could surrender to the us who whisked him and his onteroge to the US to develop the space program ! Sadly every country involved in ww2 has blood of some kind on their hands! It can be argued that the US was responsible for the deaths of many Germans at the end of the war by allowing the Russians to take Berlin! It was known at the time most would have surrendered to the US forces instead of fighting to the death against the Soviet Union forces! They knew that was a better fate than surrendering to the Russians! You are doing a great service for mankind bringing out the truth about the Nazis war criminals Dr Felton! Enjoy your lectures imensely! Looking forward to hearing the next one!

It's long been known that the Vatican helped nazis escape due to its support for fascism, that the allies helped war criminals escape justice in exchange for their knowledge of rockets etc. There was no distaste in using knowledge gained by torture, murder etc.
Countries do not have friends, but allies of convenience. That's how the USA could supply weapons to Saddam Hussain for years and then invade Iraq so easily, once he became a liability. It's why the USA charged the UK for ships and other military equipment during WW2. There was no feeling of helping democracy, it was a business opportunity. The special relationship is empty words and only a naive person, American or British, believes otherwise.
As Lord Palmerston said "We have no eternal allies, we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow." He, as British PM, was speaking over a hundred years ago but those words apply today and to any country.

My government in Canada is taking some responsibility for the wrongs inflicted upon First Nations peoples. It seems folks once thought that removing happy, well-adjusted kids from their parents and handing them over to angry, damaged priests and nuns, with zero oversight, was a good idea. The Vatican, with its enormous wealth, has done very little and they receive almost no negative press for their behaviour. The residential schools' unmarked graves of First Nations children in their charge are still being discovered.

My first lenghty comment regarding this episode got deleted by YT.That happens to so many people it seems these days, and the reason I honestly do not know. But anyway,in it I tried to explain the crucial role of the province of South Tyrol, after WW 1 becoming a part of Italy, with its population of ethnic Germans hoping with Hitler in power they would become part of Austria again ; but since Hitler had other priorities it remained by Italy. The population however was strongly encouraged to migrate to Germany, and many did. This resulted after WW 2 in the majority of them returning to South Tyrol, hence to Italy, which was by that time considered to be an ally.So there was like ZERO ALLIED CONTROL there. Thus, many war criminals crossed the Brenner with false documents stating they were South Tyrolians returning. After arrival they were helped by the Catholic Church and the local civil authorities, most of them still in the same functions they had before the war was ended.
