    This lesson helps me make my solos sound less "random". I usually don't stay in one position, and now it makes MUCH more sense to use the chord method. I've been watching your TH-cam channel for a while. After just 45 minutes watching and applying to my own playing.......now it's time for me to check out your extended lessons.

    Now that I’m combining a lot of this knowledge AND your video on arpeggios was a great help
    A couple years back, the biggest problem is, so many things have multiple names on guitar. It’s really maddening. You got me going though arpeggios really broke me out of playing scales as shapes.

    Noticing how you used Apagios and triad shapes within the scale and how they connected and how to navigate melodically thru the 5 scales . There is no end really. I think knowing where all the Apagios are within each scale also is important as the triads . You have me thinking away I have never looked at the fretboard the way I do now and understand I still know little even though I've gained a lot. . One step at a time. It's a beautiful puzzle in a sense that notes can be hit and rehit at different intervals but so important to land on the root third or fifth to blend in with each chord progression. I play by ear so I can hear when it's right but knowing what I'm hitting and where it's all located s priceless. The caged system is awesome .basically it always comes back to that. Now which scale shape to use or start on is where I get a little confused I can figure it out quuckly but not sure from the start it's coming to me it's the mixture of major and minor scales combined that throws me off.

    What you refer to as shape one is surely postion 1 Brett

    • @BrettPapa
      @BrettPapa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I call it shape one for the actual shape of the scale that way wether I am referring to major or minor I can just say shape one. Some consider that only position one for minor scales and a different position one for major. Gets confusing for a lot of people heck I am confused just trying to type it right now lol!

    • @1228839
      @1228839 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrettPapa Thanks Brett, we`ve always known it as position one for major or minor, but maybe things have changed since I started playing, TAB`s certainly better now than it was in the 60`s and no more trying to drop record player needles in groves to work out lead bits, thank goodness for youtube and sites like your.

    You are the best! Thanks for your videos. I know scales...but find , landing on a proper note of the chord is more melodic (then 100 notes per minute) Especially putting feel....bends and sustain is just important! Keep putting out these awesome vids! Cheers! Kev

After the very first video nasty blues licks I knew I was hooked on guitar and decided to sell my entry level squire and get a Epiphone Les paul es pro to practice with. Any recommendations on an amp mid grade level? I'm Very late new to guitar lol

    I like just five shapes , I’ve been learning CAGED shapes but it gets wacky with minor shapes, I’ve been tying minor arpeggios to the shapes which works but it can get weird pretty quickly

    How you doing Brett? Great lesson. The whole reason I don't like scales because it's seems worthless and boring. Now you made it fun , musical and all the reasons you said. Keep them interesting, yeah. Peace.

      Thanks! They are Universal Audio OX Boxes. They are a way to use tube heads at full volume straight into your computer without a cab or they can be used with a cab to greatly reduce stage volume. It also has an onboard studio effects program with it that you can save patches on. Best piece of gear I have bought in the last 10 years! Check them out for sure!!!

    This video helped me out a lot. I have been looking for something like this for a while. Thank you for this! I have a dumb question as I am a beginner with soloing. The shapes you were explaining…if I am soloing in the key of C, that shape 1 will be the same but with my root note at C right? And the shapes go up the fret board and end up back at the first frets? I guess what I’m mainly asking if I start shape one in the middle of the fret board, will shape 4 or 5 end up at the first few frets? Thanks!
