Probably my favourite aspect of discovery back then was all the random assortment of characters flying around that probably did not have a forum presence, but was still recognized in-game and had their own share of fame/infamy just because of their background history.. something about having deeds and actions back up your character rather than just written text and being recognized based on those had a seriously interesting aura that could alter your behaviour around those type of characters. Pretty sure the Reavers had massive forum presence, but my first encounter with (Cerulean and... pink, silver?? reaver, you know that seemingly girlboss type of character that actually had a bomber ace behind it and would annihilate everyone in an FA Mamoru) them put me right back in the training wheels lmao, back when gunboats were new and posed major obstacle to fighters (i still remember that tridente vid, what was that, 8v1?) I was flying around a bret gunboat and just the two of them in sabres absolutely murdered me next to the edinBRUH jumpgate lmao, just because someone gave them a couple hundred thousand And ever since then, seeing them in action just put the fear of god into me, not because I knew the players nor because of their forum rp presence, just solely their deeds in-game and their attitude towards other characters. Same goes for 101st, Chenzo, Burak, Skorak, Pavel and a looong list of names that I unfortunately forgotten throughout the years.. and not only them, but the mostly laid back characters as well like Cody, who was without doubt the most recognized equipment dealer.. and obviously Yoda who somehow had a battlestar that was against the rules but everyone tolerated him because he was chill lol Something about the state of the server back in those days is especially unique to me, you would seek out/run from certain players just based on their prior history and your encounters with them, not because someone hyped them up or because they had the biggest forum presence, but because they proved it time and time again who they really were and what they stood for and could back those up any day of the week.. that's something I will forever miss from other communities, is that due to much lower player count, there really isn't any space for these type of players to be created organically in a meaningful capacity, considering probably the entire active community of their server knows about them. Waiting the next episode eagerly, its so much fun to go down the memory lane every once in a while c:
that cliffhanger is killing me!
Grrrreat! Back to Disco
