DYI - Greasing ⚙️ fountain pens 🖋️

One of the sequences in the maintenance process of a fountain pen is the greasing process, here you have my perspective on this step, the result of a well lubricated filling system is the smooth gliding of the writing instrument internal parts - something that we all can appreciate.

Thoughts on how to lubricate a Pilot Custom 823? Pilot insists on avoiding the opening of the pen by unscrewing the section.

thats a good one :D well if opening the pen is nowhere available or you dont want to do so, the only lubricating way its to use it a couple of times with one of those Noodlers lubricating inks - but I have not tested it and I dont know how that can work

Thanks Emy! Yes, proper maintenance makes everything so much better to use. I found silicone grease in the plumbing section of my hardware store. A very small container is a lifetime supply for taking care of pens.

Great tip! :D same here - that small container I have it for the past 5 years... I dont think in this lifetime I'll get to finish it, although if my collection grows.. who knows?! :))

Great video! Super helpful to see the process in the demo Leonardo -- I had one leaking out the bottom once, but thankfully some silicone grease on the unit patched it up.
Question: if I wanted to grease up the Kyuseido/Gravitas Kakari, should I also do it on the exterior section of the mechanism? Namely the portion of the rod that exits the barrel. I have felt that the glide on the rod of mine is not as smooth now after a few months, but I'm not sure how best to apply the grease.

Thank you so much for your feedback :D sometimes a little grease can fix some leaky threads.
For the kakari pen ... its very simple just extend the rod and grease it outside of the pen as it extends at the base... when you insert it, some grease passes in the pen and greases the whole length
