Do FAULTY Discs still work on Xbox One Backward Compatibility?

- Hi, this video shows a damaged Xbox game disc working on a Xbox One when using Backward Compatibility. The disc does not work on the original Xbox console but it works on the newer console because the game is stored on the hard drive. So if you have damaged Xbox and Xbox 360 games then it might be worth holding onto them as if they are released on backward compatibility then you might still be able to use them.

That's because the disc is only being used as a "key" to download a digital version from the only servers, it only has to read the first part of the discs. This is also the reason why most XBox games will not work, their data is not on the server.
I know it's a youtube staple to pause the video and post exactly what the person was already gonna say, but what really gets me is at least 15 different people liked this comment.

It's called a Disc Rot. It does that as the disc gets really old without care or exposed to water or the sunlight.

That's why backwards compatibility is so cool. Buying them digitally is another option too :)
While it does sometimes seem like a huge pain to have to download every single game onto the hard drive to play it regardless of if you have the disc, being able to play broken discs as long as the console can identify what game it is makes for a huge plus. I've got an old cracked copy of COD 2 that busted years ago that's been revived by backwards compatibility.
This actually helped me so I can play my backward compatibility games without actually buying a digital version of the game

I’m so glad I saw this video because I just picked up some original Xbox games from GameStop and they are beat to hell
So pumped my ghostbusters was busted just found it playin now good thing i never threw it out
One fault other than a snapped disc that could cause this not to work is cracks on the centre portion of the disc if the extend into the data area (beyond the Xbox logos on the underside of the disc). This is where the disc information is stored; if this happens it won't read at all.

Yep. My psychonauts disc is not working on the original Xbox and I discovered the same thing. Very cool feature!

the damage is disc rot, disc drives read from the inside out, the information it needs to recognise authentication will be at the inner center of the DVD ROM, the Xbox 1 doesn't read of the disc entirely it just needs to authentication to get the digital copy.
Download Prince Of Persia The Sands Of Time on the computer, but the setting is incorrect

It doesn't matter if your disc is scratched or cracked. The Xbox one only has to read the game label.
Prince of Persia The Sands Of Time which will work OG Xbox, it has been released on OG Xbox since The Sands Of Time, Warriors Within, The Two Thrones, and after the Sands Of Time disc was damaged & scratched so it won't work on OG Xbox

I tried selling my disc copy of SW: Republic Commando to CEX because I own it digitally now and they refused to accept it based on scratches, even when I told them it works on Modern Xboxes regardless of that ffs 😂

While your video is clear, your description itself is a bit misleading.
Unlike what your description states, just because it's stored on the HDD isn't why the game works. It works because the file stored on the HDD is downloaded from Microsoft's servers, rather than ripping the data off the original disc. So as long as the disc is intact enough to be identified as a legitimate copy of a particular title, it works.
He didn't say it was installed off the disc. Wow, schooling someone when you yourself need to go back a grade.
