A great example of a game trying too hard to do too much. The beauty of TLD, and why IMO it will never be matched, is its magnificent simplicity that enables endless complexities. I could hear the frustration in your voice during the tutorial Zak. Thanks anyway, but I’m still lost in Great Bear.
People forget that on day 1 TLD wasn't what it is today, matter fact not only did they fine tune the game they also made major changes. Definitely looking forward to this one. right after i play TLD for another 200 hrs.
It definitely has potential, although this is launch version 1.0 - and when TLD was 1.0 it was an incredible game. Early Beta is one thing, but this is now out of early access. I have a new video coming soon and there is a lot that needs improving... but I have hope for the game.
30:47 "They say there's only one real thief in the army. Everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back." That gear's called "acquired" kit, and if anyone asks, it's team kit your section got from someone who got it from someone who got it from who knows, all of whom have good alibis for the time period during which the gear was actually acquired.
1:34:16 - At left of the menu "TIME OF DAY = Midnight" You don't die sleeping, so sleep until early morning - 6AM. maybe wake-up with cold, hungry or thirst, but just take care of this. This game don't have TLD vibe, is just another survival "pick a stick, a stone, make a hatchet, cut down sequoias, and make a LEGO two store base in 5 minutes."
I haven't watched the whole video yet but it looks pretty good overall. Some stuff I like, other things I'm not crazy about, but it definitely looks like one of the better survival games to come out in a while!
Looks interesting! Even if I'm pretty sure this sounds like the beginning of a MrBallen story. I like it when you show these other games. TLD will be my favorite, but these are cool, too, no winter pun intended. ETA: Watching more it looks really frustrating to play. 😕 Also the design reminds me of Icarus.
well , the first 10 minutes told me to wait at least for full release and not early access release . if the basics dont work it just leads to frustration
The thing that bothers me the most is the constant high pitch ringing in it, it makes it almost unbearable to watch, in addition to the constant animal grunting and growling even if there aren’t any around. For me personally it made it so difficult to focus on anything because the noises were so irritable. Really makes me appreciate just how great TLD is even more than I already do. It’s so user friendly, especially apparent with things like access to inventory, the radial etc and the balance of the sound mixing and editing. That being said, always cool to see new games like these pop up.
Looks interesting...TLD sans watercolors, hehe. I'll def. give it a chance to prove itself on its own merits, though. Hope you and your tribe (especially wee hatchling) are excellent, Mr. Alright! Jubel, mate. ❤🔥
Long Dark has been one of my favorite games of all time. And this game looks like it could be really good. Graphics look super clean. Almost a little more realistic than Long Dark which is a little more sandboxxy graphics
Looks cool. Definitely clunky, and the cabin fever is a bit aggressive. They really should unlock the spear right away, since from the tutorial it seems like you need one to fight. ?
I think the game definitely pushed fidelity without reason. Long Dark could look a little better, but being stylized helps it endure. I do wish TLD had more long-term goals and ability to do things like building storage indoors, but it seems like getting a few improvements to TLD formula would come at the cost of severe jank and lack of style on this game.
1:28:00 - The only weapon (so far) you can use against predators - wolves, boar...* is the hardened wood spear, or the one with bone, stone (?) points. Knife, hatchet can't be used as weapon For hunt the deer, use the trap, then kill him with the spear, the trap work too for rabbits, wolves. * You can't fight the bear, so run. You have a (secondary) quest for make pants, so take of the actual, harvest and use the loon to make the new. When put a torch in a slot ( #1, #2...) for Quick Access drop more torches over the first, so have several in that slot. In the geysers you can pick salt cristal for make salt using a mortar, for use in recipes.
1:30:00 The other meal was over heated and burned. The beans were not half way warmed - you had watched them warm up and be ready to eat.. That extra timer was until burned...
graphics look really nice ! there a mechanics that i really like and also lot to improve. BUT i really hope they can fix al the dings and dangs and this will be a great game ! i think there should be more competition on this winter survival game genre. Otherwise it is just to easy to be lazy with game development, if you dont have to fight from the players 👍
Consistent keybinding and menu-oriented keybinds are a thing very few games bother to do. That's how you end up dozens of keybinds covering every single possibility instead of a handful doing multiple things.
I am NOT a fan. Getting food for sleeping, very immersion breaking. They tried to make everything so realistic, but at the same time you die in ~1 hr from dehydration? Always good to see you branching out and trying new games though Zak. Disliked the game but thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Too many debuffs for my taste. Getting hungry not only affects your health but also increases your trauma. And staying inside to warm up gives you cabin fever... It's just too much IMO.
Cabin Fever effect is BS. WHy devs put that in games. Like TLD, What if am an introvert. Besides, who can resist a warm cabin in the winter. Thats dumb
Wow, I never thought they would actually release this game. Tbh, I thought it was going to be another short one level money grab. Idk how to feel. Hopeful yet skeptical, I suppose
Is it only me that has great issues with the sound? Zak sounds like he is in a box. And the game sounds weird to me. I have tested it on two laptops to make sure it wasn't my speaker and with headphones.
Reading the comments, I don't think it's fair to compare it to the current state of the TLD. Comparing a pre-release game to a 10-year-old game is not fair. tld was also very dumb when it first appeared. In fact, it is perhaps not an exaggeration that it only became really exciting and lovable after exiting the alpha version. To this day, green hell is full of annoying bugs. I believe that if they keep working on it, it could still be a great game. Right now I think it will be a Green hell level game. It's something you learn and discover once, and then it doesn't really pose a challenge anymore. Well, we'll see, don't judge too soon.
Yeah lots of Long Dark players in this channel naturally making comparisons even tho it does not make sense. I also feel, he should have played the Survival mode and not the 'story' mode. We need to give the developers time.
@@KamleshMallick The developers thought the distribution of keys was a good marketing ploy, but unfortunately it turned out the other way around. The game was so half-baked that it generated mostly negative reviews. Already in the last few days, they have improved a lot and it has become much more fun. It will be worth watching again when the next part of the story with the big fixes is released. Hinterland's child of love has set the bar very high in all aspects and thus imperceptibly raised our expectations, but it is important to remind ourselves that a ten-year-old game should not be compared to something that is just being born. It holds your hand WAY too much; linear, guiding you down a predetermined path rather than open world exploring is very annoying. I hope/assume there'll be a sandbox version where you explore freely like TLD?
ook so i actually survived through all wolfes and got to hot spring and finaly the house so how to i light up the damn fire??i cant understand why i cant do this i got tinder n alot of twigs...so looted all inside the house almost dead but still cant light the fire is this game supposed to be insanely crap hard and i dont understand carap about anything at this early point and will not get past this point if i cant light the damn fire...will die of injuries n cold..so this is why i hate these games.....probably time to go back to green hell instead or any other
Not sure putting it on hard difficulty is a good idea when you don't know how to play - probably made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. Also the food was warming up very quickly which is reasonable given it's precooked beans etc, you kept on waiting for it to burn! 🤦
This game looks just like any other "survival" game out there. In fact, i guess that cookie cutter feeling comes from the fact that they must be using a tested engine, like those Unity games that end up having the same mechanics.
What already annoys me by watching you play are these mobile game tutorial hints. Click here. Do this. Now click here. Why is this a thing? Why is this tutorial so long? 45 minutes and it is still on rails.
Fight-or-Flight situations w/ one's life on the line often output strong verbal responses...very ancient source coding that helps us (partially) mitigate adrenaline dump / cortisol response. The current epoch does seem pretty gratuitous in overdoing it, though, eh?

Well said! 👏
Speaking my mind
This game basically is if your best friends are morons don't go camping with them.
Is that not the premise of 90% of horror movie?

Like the history of every single tribe across this whole mudball for all time...we're all just acquiring kit from someone before us, hehe. ;)

That LEGO comment sounds about right
this looks very interesting\ lots of love my friend
Love it when you do not TLD content! Do what you like and we will watch
I love both also. But dont day that. Ha.
I haven't watched the whole video yet but it looks pretty good overall. Some stuff I like, other things I'm not crazy about, but it definitely looks like one of the better survival games to come out in a while!
It's impossible to compare to the atmosphere of the long dark but I'm really interested in the deeper survival mechanics

It’s hard to describe exactly why TLD is so great.
The sound design
The graphic design
The addictive but slow methodical gameplay……

Have you checked out the image filters in TLD?
In display options, they have 3 choices of color filter.
I don't think I can appreciate this game for what it is. I'll be sticking with TLD.
Long Dark has been one of my favorite games of all time. And this game looks like it could be really good. Graphics look super clean. Almost a little more realistic than Long Dark which is a little more sandboxxy graphics

36:00 "He ain't gonna be in Rush Hour 3." xD

Wolves passing by 3 meters away from you do not know about your presence, lol. LOL
I wonder why we can't craft spears in the Long Dark?.
Balance
How does this man have the strength to snap a sapling without any tools
omfg i looked it up and its the same studio that made gas station simulator XD
Strended Deep is the only game that can give me the feeling of loneliness that The Long Dark gave me.
I tried this once and will give it another go. When I first tried it I stepped on a poisonous mollusc within the first five minutes and died
@@Zaknafein yes we all been there :))
Seems like a the forest and the long dark combination
It is good to play other games. You never know which ones you will enjoy until you experience them for yourself 🙂
Too many debuffs for my taste. Getting hungry not only affects your health but also increases your trauma. And staying inside to warm up gives you cabin fever... It's just too much IMO.
And it has an annoying player character and NPC friend. I prefer the solitude of the Long Dark.
Hang on, I'm confused. What season is this game set in? What's the goal? 😂
It’s ok, I prefer games with more moving around and less scrolling inventory and menus etc. Reminds me a bit of Forest, easily repetitive.

So.... Tutorial feels like puppy slaying simulator
Dislike Huskies?
I have the game for you!
I watched PSJ's review and I must say the sanity thing really kills the game in my opinion.

Fairly interesting concept. "White Hell"? "Winter Hell"? "The Long Survival"? "The Long Hell"? (sry, the last one was my previous marriage)😁
I wanted to like this game but I’m not sure. It looks cool. Nice graphics. Maybe once it gets all dialed in.
Looks like some the long dark rippof early acces in unreal engine 4
did they just copy TLD for this lmao even the phrases are the same "my hands are freezing"
Game seems guite good, but hiding form wolfs in bush is a joke :D
Yeah like Canies don't have a good sense of smell. The game devs don't know wildlife.
so your telling as bear eat food cooking on a roaring campfire, just stuck his nose right in there
Haven't watched the video yet but is this even good ?
In my opinion, no.
From what we've seen this has nothing on TLD and never will, nice try though to the devs.
