- Dear friends, my students, my colleague Franck and I are very happy to show you our new video of Ruslan and Ludmila overture ! thanks to an idea of my friend Jacques Poullot 🙏✨We recorded this brilliantly energetic Glinka masterpiece in the same conditions than our last video of Candide, at home, with phones and headphones only.
Based on a Pushkin poem, the opera was released in 1842, and the action is settled in pagan Russia, the beautiful Ludmila is wooed by three admirers and eventually won, after a healthy dose of sorcery both good and evil, by the fair knight Ruslan.
The overture rapidly became a favorite curtain-raiser, the kind of bonbon that tends to begin seasons or serve as encore after a splendid evening. We hope it will help you begin your day the best way possible 😊✨

Absolutely ! I wish I had the scores. I play along as a morning work out. Due to not having the scores I end up playing a bit of everyone’s part 😂

I have watch it three times and I'm still impressed. Last Sunday I was wandering what would be Nicolas Baldeyrou preparing this time because he didn't upload any video. Them I saw him on Instagram in a collaboration with Selin Gürol but his partition was minimum. So I guest he was recording something great and here it is. what a magnificent video with high, what a great song and recorded with your students. I already have stablish a new personal goal in my live travel to Lyon and take a picture with ma favorite musician Nicolas Baldeyrou.

It's one of the most enjoyable pieces I've ever heard with multiple clarinets. Usually there's always some nasty little dissonance, but this one was perfectly balanced and doesn't sound like a lack of tonal richness.
Truly enjoyable! Awesome clarinetists all around; very impressive E-flat clarinet work.

J'ai une maîtrise en clarinette, et j'enseigne la clarinette depuis plus de 10 ans, et arriver à être aussi justes et ensembles, à distance en plus (il doit sans doute avoir une aide externe, mais quand même!) When you have a conductor that is well known for specializing in their own nationality, one way to learn is by trying to impersonate said conductor when conducting music of said nationality.

Wow quel talent, quelle perfection ! J'admire en particulier la petite clarinette (que je joue habituellement), toujours dans l'extrême suraigu, je ne sais même pas comment il arrive à sortir ces notes-là ! Les dents directement sur l'anche peut-être, mais là c'est difficile pour monter une gamme !
Sinon je suis vraiment impressionné par l'incroyable niveau des jeunes clarinettistes, à mon époque il y en avait peut-être 1 sur 500 qui maîtrisait le double détaché, la respiration continue ou le slap, sans parler des gammes qui montent couramment jusqu'au contre ut, maintenant ça fait partie des bases minimales à acquérir !
Je donnerais cher pour avoir un prof tel que Nicolas, ses élèves ont vraiment de la chance !

Thank you once again Nicholas this is one of my particular favourite videos I've just about worn it out it's beautiful playing and it's a beautiful piece of music. I've really enjoyed it during this lockdown and with all the snow that we've had. I love seeing and hearing all those beautiful Buffy clarinet as well could you do a video of a tour of the buffet factory sometime in the future.
