Nothing wrong with rhythm guitar. Most popular and memorable rock and metal riffs are done by the rhythm guitarist.
There is nothing wrong with anything that provides good function and value.
I personally like to play rhythm guitar over lead.
Rhythm is better
It all comes down to usage...even Yanni is WOWed when he has to stop playing and listen to the Bass or Violin solo...
Where lead is appropriate, rhythm ain't covering that - and vise versa.
Hell ya just look at METALLICA!!!
For the love of God make a full version of 0:00-0:15

Just an fyi, I blast your guitar vids when I run my "motivated" pt's in the morning. Those riffs, get even the slow guys going, gears red hot.
Jared could probably make a band of just him and his clones and it'll sound awesome
sheeeeeeesh...
We need a tab for every single riff in this video :D especially for 0:52 that sounds soo sick to me
1:23 PEASE do a full version!!!
This video has a clear message behind it! Envy should NEVER be a part of the 2 Guitarrists in a band... well if a band has 2 guitarrists that is. Some peole are MADE for being raw, dirty and unpolished rhythm guitarrists, while othes with more dexterity are made to be leadguys. But the message behind this video is: put your skills to good use and create something out of it instead of fighting each other! Well played Jared! Greetings from Germany :)

Also steve vai srv jimi hendrix yngvie buckethead .. i could go on and on.. i myself blow at leads.. i can do rhythm and some scaling but straight up lead is for better more experienced players..
And this dude.. just omg.. wow.. wish i could be his singer anyday..
But I can
Soo let me get this straight
Rhythm = Riffs
Lead= Solos
Yeah, basically
wouldn't you still need both for a well structured song
just because a song doesnt have a solo doesn't mean the lead shouldnt be in
FelixFTW well yes, I’m just saying that’s it’s mostly the lead that does the soloing when there is one

I'm a Rhythm guitarist. When someone ask me to do some metallica riffs (ex. Master of puppets) idk why the downpicking intro becomes an iron maiden song, but in the end is funny
Then you're not a rounded guitar player. I personally finger pick and use my thumb as the rythym, or play rythym into my loop pedal and then solo over the top

Hail to rhythm guitarists !!
The rhythm guitarist has one of the most underrated, yet memorable jobs. Sometimes he can be the band’s primary songwriter (for example, Izzy Stradlin in Guns N Roses), or he can even be the band leader (Malcolm Young (RIP), Scott Ian, etc). He also plays some of the most iconic riffs (usually letting the lead guitarist get all the glory).
OR... instead of writting songs he can invest that time in actually developing his rhythm guitar by studiying Flamenco, Gipsy Jazz, Swing, Funk, Ranchera etc...
"Need percussion? No problem I can emulate that on guitar."
"You need me to create an emotional athmosphere using emotionally ambiguous chord progression by using accents, dynamics and even moments of silece as part of my rhythm? No problem."
When you are actually good at rhythm guitar you will stand out without writting songs or riffs.
One example would be rhythm guitarist Gabriela from Rodrigo Y Gabriela almost nobody pays attention to Rodrigo xD.

I hate how true this statement is but it’s so freaking true. The difference between a Rythm guitarist and a lead guitarist, is that the rythm guitarist sets the rythm and the lead guitarist plays the melody. One without the other doesn't work out to well, unless the guitar isn't the main focus of the song.
The singer can easily set the melody of the song. If you ask me. Being a great rhythm guitarist is more valuable of an asset than the leads because the rhythm and riffs are what drives the song to begin with amd likely the first thing you remember. Look at Pete Townshend and Scott Ian. Amazing rhythm players and probably shitty leads
@@necrodamus5481 Yes, I definitely agree. Another good example of that is Sublime, which happens to be my profile pic. Bradley was not only the lead/rythm guitarist, he was the lead singer, and was great at writing melodies to go with his funky rhythm instrumentals

I always found it weird how a lot of bands constantly have both guitarists playing the exact same thing. I understand that soloing isn't something to be overused, but often they could just have simple leads or chords that are somewhat higher in pitch. Instead, it's the exact same power chords and riffs until the solo comes in.
MeowTheRainbowX Its bc its creates a louder thicker sound of badasstry. Korn wouldn't be korn without two guitar players
How many shows have you been at?
+FadedFades I get that. I just think that at least some of the time, both guitarists should do something a little different. You can do great things with riffs and rhythms when both guitarists are complementing each other. Also, I've heard bands with only one guitarist that had excellent guitar tone. Listen to Night Verses if you don't know what I'm talking about, especially their early stuff. As much as I like thick guitar textures, both guitarists don't have to always do exactly the same thing.
