I studied in China for a year, met so many international friends who I still keep in contact with today. Now, I live in Taiwan, and occasionally I hear my old friends that I met in China talk about how they want to return, and I just cannot fathom the idea. After being in Taiwan, I just could never resubmit myself to the uncertainty of living in China, even as just a random nobody just living life. Things are so much more secure and stable here in Taiwan.
I was born in Macau, a Chinese SAR similars to Hong Kong but used to rule by the Portuguese instead of the British. I now live in US and haunt by homesick every once in a while, but I can't really risk going back because of how often I bad-wording against the CCP. I can't go back peacefully until Xi is down or better, CCP is down.
I hope the ADVChina audience gets a link to this video. A story that must be watched for anyone following these guys. PROZZIE!!! The Curly to Moe and Larry
Wow. That was a scary story. My husband was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada at 19 for school. He never went back. We were planning on retiring in HK in 2014 but decided to come here to Cozumel, Mexico instead. With all that is happening now...I'm glad we didn't go to HK. We miss the food and I asked him if he'd consider moving to Taiwan and he said "no". It's going to be another HK very soon. So sad.
Love you! Thank you for sharing the story. I don't blame you as I much older than your guys was once naive about ccp. Now just look what happened in Hong Kong.
As long you don't talk about politics and act like that normal tourist that eats and sightseeing, you should be fine. But you would be monitored with all that CCTV they've got.
Wes, it is never the same. I visit as a tourist with my family in China during the 80's, live work in China 2012 for 3 1/2 years. They are two different world for two different timing. Some citizens are naive some are very tricky and hostile, so from my experiences you would stand out too much of an attention. Wait till CCP are gone or visit some ASEAN(South Asian countries) to know more about Chinese people living there for some fair points(still got to watch out the spies). Be safe man!
About your experience in HK immigration at 11:00 in the video, I think I can give you a clue. I have learnt from some secret way that the officers who check your passport sometimes think referring all suspicious cases to duty office is troublesome if you go through the immigration check by car instead of inside the immigration hall. Their senior officers may not like that either. Of course I will never which cases must be referred or not for I am not their staff. But at least I can sure that, even you come Hong Kong through the immigration hall that time, they may just detain you for a while, just like your previous experience.

It's been interesting seeing everything that happened the past few years from a viewer's perspective. Especially when everyone was starting to leave China, we were just kind of left to speculate.
Another apparent inconsistency is that in C-Milk's vid Vivi tells him to get the hell out of there. In this version C-Milk runs off without telling her what he is doing and she has to ring Prozzie to find out where her husband is.
Great vid. My Taiwan school sent me to Xiamen China and with in a few months six cops roll into the school and start interviewing me. Luckily, my Taiwan boss was there and I was like . . . bye, China. Back home to Taiwan. I also got arrested in Taiwan, but not my fault. I actually ended up in a cell in my underware with a bunch of Philipino guys. Good story. Life long friends.
@@oliverpicken3320 Still a very uncomfortable experience. When the police did a "routine" check on me at my home in Shanghai I did not like it at all. Can you imagine something like that happening in a Western country? No chance.
My first day in China, the police visited and told us not to talk about anything political. I think in their way of thinking, they were being helpful. It was still super creepy.
Young me with such knowledgeable about and real life in the new closed China. I did business in China for over 30 year and I’m now out of China too. But Chen Qiushi was expecting to get arrested. Everyone knew he was going to get arrested. He was openly attacking the CCP. Of course he should not get arrested just for telling the truth but its kind of crazy that laowhy's videos were mostly positive or at the worst neutral about china, yet he still got targeted. Living in China is a danger, no matter who you are. Most people just don't realise it.
I'd say most definitely they are. That's sort of the thing of building the most advanced surveillance program in the world, which China is doing atm. Everyone that has/had any form of interaction with China most likely have a file somewhere. Hell I'm pretty sure I have a file there, despite not actually having been to Mainland China. (Depending on your definition of what mainland is these days). People from old East Germany were shocked to find out what the government stored about them in the Stasi-archives after the wall fell down. Now we're decades down the line with all the technology advancements. I'd say it's time to stop being too naive about how far a authoritarian regime is able/willing to go.
For future videos where you skype with CMilk do you think you could somehow edit it to look like you two are at some blue collared Chinese restaurant? I'd get a chuckle and it would harken back to the days where you two were together. Best!
Prozzie In fact, I believed we as audiences of this channel don’t mind a 45 min chat. At least for me that is the main value of your video offered me. I really like to listen to you guys chatting just like a podcast.
So glad you all were able to get safe. Cool to see you guys together again. A thought, why dont you guys periodically do videos about food again only on video American version vs Taiwanese version if there are foods you can find in both places? Just a random thought.
Arghh, you trickster! I had my superconducting processor (pen & paper) ready to count the logos, but you just made us watch the whole 10 minutes when otherwise we would only listen and open a new tab to browse HK news.. But we must stay prozzitive!
The unfortunate thing for Matt and Winston is they both started to push the envelope exactly at the time when what was considered acceptable for foreigners to be seen to be doing started rapidly shrinking. I don't think they would have been sent to prison or anything like that and I find it a little hyperbolic when they say that would have definitely been the case. It was a crazy enough situation, there's no need to mythologise it further. However, they definitely would have found themselves in a situation where they would have been detained for X period and then told, "Stop and shut up or leave." They wouldn't have been able to do what they were doing, that's for certain. Then, once your friend left, there wasn't much reason to stay. Would anything have happened to you? Doubtful, but the issue is when you're there and you're in that environment there is a level of paranoia you just can't explain. Sidenote: I must be blind because I didn't see one of those Nord VPN logos. The service has become pretty poor in China. To use it you have to download an OpenVPN workaround to get onto the Nord servers. When they work, those connections are very reliable but that only works for laptops. I never got it to work on my phone.
I don't think prison necessarily was in the cards for them, but I think at a certain point they'd probably have to pay fines, get their visas revoked, and/or make public apologies on TH-cam about "offending the Chinese people" or something to that effect, with of course more harassment and monitoring forever until the day they die if they remained there. Prozzie at least was honest and said "Hey, if I stayed in China for another year I'd probably be fine." I think a difference is while they could potentially legally arrest foreigners for whatever, it could create diplomatic issues and bad publicity, so it's much easier to harass subtly or not, and just make it unpleasant for foreigners they don't like to continue to be there, so they just leave. Honestly they probably don't want to say it, but they likely had something like "gang stalking" going on to them in China.
They may be detained. You can be detained without charge in China. The fact that C-Milk is an American made it worse. He may be used as a bargaining chip by China in dealing with the US government.
Okay so 1 time at the beginning of the video and 1 time during the actual ad .. but if you count cutting away to footage from nordvpn, I guess it could be considered 4 separate times during the ad ... in which case it would be a total of 5? Anyway doesn't matter, don't really have anything worth being read other than keep up the good work, congratulations on how far you've come (been watching you since you the beginning), and hope to run into you someday if I ever make it back to Taiwan.
Prozzie can you go visit them in California? Then we can have a Taiwan vs. Cali video. I've often heard that topic from my Taiwanese friends in the UK. Apparently many Taiwanese will still choose Taiwan (over Silicon Valley) despite the lower salary.
I don't think he's ever explained what exactly made him bug out. I just checked a bunch of his older vids to see if I just missed it, but haven't found anything.
Thanks for telling us. I am from HK and we know Chinese government is ugly but not that detailed, like how you were stalked. Taiwan is really a good place. I just hope Taiwan wont be taken by China in future.
Prozzie, be the third leg supporting China info by being the Taiwan correspondent! The ADV guys should have you report on Taiwan affairs. Post weekly vids and you could get in on some of the Patreon success Winston and Matt have. Peace, I've been following you guys for years.
Wow. Glad you and your friend got out of China safely. BTW, some of the chinese subtitles are very different from what was spoken and somewhat incomprehensible.
what? I don't know anything about Inner Mongolia. There's been so much focus on Xinjiang, Tibet, flooding, etc. that I didn't even think that there could be yet another issue going on. How much money is the CCP and the PLA spending to suppress these people and issues?
Didn't C-Milk stay in Hong Kong for a couple days while he worked things out? Not straight to the Airport? That's what his vid said (if I remember correctly)
Another apparent inconsistency is that in C-Milk's vid Vivi tells him to get the hell out of there. In this version C-Milk runs off without telling her what he is doing and she has to ring Prozzie to find out where her husband is.

Think they are overdramatizing it a bit for effect.
A cheers from a Canadian in Japan to a Canadian drinking Asahi Super Dry in Taiwan!
Thanks for telling us. I am from HK and we know Chinese government is ugly but not that detailed, like how you were stalked. Taiwan is really a good place. I just hope Taiwan wont be taken by China in future.
Please share this on Twitter!
Glad you guys left China safely. Wise decision.
Prozzie, be the third leg supporting China info by being the Taiwan correspondent! The ADV guys should have you report on Taiwan affairs. Post weekly vids and you could get in on some of the Patreon success Winston and Matt have. Peace, I've been following you guys for years.
Be careful.Go back home ASAP🤔....Run...🏃♂️🏃
He's safe now, he's in Taiwan...
Robert Hardy :That is good👍Wish you all the best.🤗
C-milk looks really upset/uncomfortable🤔 I imagine it was a jarring experience for him
Prozzie and C-milk, a love story for the ages...
Is C-milk with you? Says the fake wife from the shame marriage to the lover.
Wow. Glad you and your friend got out of China safely.
BTW, some of the chinese subtitles are very different from what was spoken and somewhat incomprehensible.
What means of "代誌大條"?
@Unkanata Thanks
@@leolee8499 Thx
What do you mean by getting stopped at the Hong Kong border?
Imagine those foreigners who were not as lucky as you guys, and that might be the majority.
I'm glad you are not promoting ExpressVPN or SurfShark which are linked to CN gov
I think he was there for a few days before they drove in the van across the border
@@xixingpooh ok - makes sense
Dennis Hink all of C-milks videos are fake and he makes up the news as it comes along.
Another apparent inconsistency is that in C-Milk's vid Vivi tells him to get the hell out of there. In this version C-Milk runs off without telling her what he is doing and she has to ring Prozzie to find out where her husband is.
Mathew Toll enough said. This cmilk lies through his teeth. Not even a good liar.
Far out. Like a political thriller.
"emptying out all the ice" LOL or something else illogical ?
Where does one watch taiwanese movies
Netflix with a VPN!
Good story
