I think the irony of seeker molds being reused so much is that they’re also not used enough as there’s always notable characters that don’t get made.
WFC Siege Seeker immediately comes to mind. We got Hotlink, but Bitstream and SUNSTORM.. have been skipped entirely. One could repurpose the "Decepticon Seeker" as Bitstream, but ol' Sunny is still amiss...

The siege Starscream had quite a number too. Thundercracker, Skywarp, Redwing, 3 rainmakers, sparkless seeker, hotlink, nacelle, senator shockwave, SG starscream. Making 12, I think.

It’s crazy just how much use they’ve gotten out of that Sideswipe mold. He really is the Autobot Seeker which is pretty funny because in Shattered Glass he is a former Seeker. However you really gotta hand it to that Megatron mold because at least the other molds mentioned were at least used to make a variety of different characters. There aren’t 12 Sideswipes or 12 Starscreams.
I find it hilarious that every video I've watched about this 2-Pack says Megatron is a siege retool and misses the obvious that it's just a repaint of Miner Megatron. Did people forget that 2-pack with Senator Ratbat?
Miner Megatron itself is just a Siege retool, so it's not wrong to call this one a siege retool too.

I could imagine the Sideswipe mold being used for more in Cyberverse, a Takara set piece, a cartoon accurate deco that comes with the Jetpack, maybe into a RiD/Car Robots Prowl, of which I am hoping will be done into a Universe Inferno.
Technically the extensive cel-shading work on the 35th Anniversary Megatron is more Devastation accurate than G1, unless you count the higher animation budget the '86 movie had for showing the reflection of light on their armour.
There are still plenty of figures I want to see done in the Earthrise Seeker mold. The classic Deluxe singer was done in over 30 different colors. We still need all those.
I like to refer to the Netflix Deep Cover as Blown Cover, just to keep them straight in my head.
And you didn't even mention the SIEGE Seekers, which by my count are up to 13 versions between the normal 3, the Rainmakers, the 2 Netflix ones, the 2 in the Legacy Evolution Amazon sets, Redwing and both SG and Premium Edition Starscream. I hope we Bitstream and Sunstorm to at least complete the Welcoming Committee.
And I can't believe we have gotten ZERO Spychangers out of Sideswipe.
When I saw that announcement of the SDCC two-pack, I felt like a bowl of petunias that suddenly appeared in the sky over an alien planet next to a sperm whale, because I thought "oh no, not again."
Still waiting on Sunstorm and an earth mode Nacelle. Using the siege toy makes sense for the cartoon, but the Earth mode will give him the features that made him distinct.
There are still several earth mode seekers I would take, but always had issues with the cyberronian version breaking up the faux canopy
Shattered glass Megs has great colors, but that attempt at a jet mode killed it for me
There a so many Sideswipe repaints that they might as well be the Autobots' equivalent to the seekers.

I never picked up thismold. The original was the only one I saw often in the wild. But the paintjob just looked kinda bad
I got the Siege Megatron mold in cell shaded Cartoon Colors because I like the those Colors on Megatron. And it has become my default G1 Megatron.
This is why HasBro didn't hire highly experienced toy engineers, and not creating Leader-sized comic-accurate redesigns from IDW 2009 proves it.
I think what sets Siege Megatron apart from all these other mold reuses, and what makes him far more egregious, is that, unlike the others on this list, they're ALL Megatron! ALL! OF! THEM!
The others are 90% different characters, and are meant to be collected en masse for army building.
But Megatron? All variations of the exact same guy. Ironically, his most creative and arguably best use are his (currently) final two uses before 86 Megs shows up, the Miner/Gladiator versions. But because they're ALL Megatron, his case is more exacerbated than the other reused molds.
Sideswipe is one of my favorite molds zero kibble I do wish they would change the weapons from time to time.
The Prowl family my biggest complaint is the clear plastic legs overall very good aesthetics.
Next. the Seekers tend to have the same Robot and Vehicle appearance to make them troop builders.
All of the Insecticons have the body with different chests models.
They never released a plain version of Siege Megatron... that's just nuts.
Cliffjumper’s cannon is perfect for Core Megatron’s tank mode.
I feel like the Battle Masters Firedrive and Aimless had a lot of reuses.
Siege Soundwave got a lot of use. Original, Walmart/35th Soundblaster, Takara Soundblaster, Legacy "clean" Soundwave. Plus Earthrise Netflix, Shattered Glass, Takara 3-pack, United Leader.

PS. It's definitely ironic to see how the awesome Classics Voyager Megatron of 2006 only get 4 uses out of the mould, while the newer five-year-old one has (so far) received three times that number! 😅

If they wanted to do those and more from this mold I wouldn't mind so much. However I hate the Earthrise mold. It has all the same issues the overrated Classics mold did. It only does the job in the looks department in the most basic of ways. Once you start to mess with the Earthrise mold, the easier it is to see just how not good it is.
The nosecone not going inside the cockpit for transformation.
The stupid single pelvis flap.
The stubby short arms.
While the wings don't break off anymore, they do fall off easily.
The needless lack of waist swivel.
The Seeker mold should have so much extra tooling pumped into it due to how many reuses it can get. Not only that but the vast majority of collectors will buy them all too. So it's not like it's a bunch of potential reuses that people might not buy like other molds. People might not want Diaclone redecos or Estella and other official non-US release redecos but people would buy the shit out of Silverbolt colored Seeker. Or Brawl colored Seeker. Or Onslaught colored Seeker. Or Dirge colored Starscream. Or The Ultimate Doom trio. Or The myriad of Seekers from MTMTE 1, 2 and 3. Or the Five Faces of Darkness Seekers. Or Action Masters Starscream and Thundercracker.
That's like at least 50 figures and if they were all done from a better mold than the Earthrise mold then I'll happily buy each and every one of them.
The G2 Seekers. Robot Masters Black Starscream. The Welcoming Committee. The Rainmakers. Blast. Wheezing Arrow. Blazewake. Slipstream. Mystery of Convoy Seekers. Devastation Seekers (we are getting one). The Cyberverse Seekers. Those first two clones from Animated. They're nearly endless.

I have the Ghost Starscream. It’s a solid figure. Love the G1 episode of Starscream’s Ghost and where he scares the Spark out of Tankor.

I'm really looking forward to the two pack. Not a fan of Orion being a cop, but that's more IDW's issue.He looks amazing but I really like grey miner Megs. The one from the Rise of Tyranny was pretty good, and it feels like a transitional Megs between the miner and Megs.
I'm also really looking forward to the Marvel Legends Death's Head. I've been waiting for a 6" figure for so long and I'm happy we're going to be getting him.
Imagine the leaked SS 86 Megatron is just earthirse again except with slightly better paint and extra accessories
They already said it will be an entirely new mold, that's why they're milking this one right now. And it will also not be a gun, so not screen accurate. So what's the point?
Would be a flop. And strangely we got that already not even long ago with the throne ser with a good repaint and another great fig
I kind of expect an SS86 springer treatment, take the ER figure as a base, take out the partsforming weapon, clean him up a bit, don't have the feet blatently sticking out the back of the tank, and stuff in all the random weapons he picked up while fighting optimus
Bumblebee got a new mold for the SS86 line, Sideswipe’s mold might just be his definitive mold. Although, we’re far from getting photos of the SS86 Megatron, it should be cartoon accurate but it’s going to be a tank, hopefully the tank will look like Megatron from Transformers: Devastation where the tank looks like an actual M1 Abrams with all the armor looking silver and the treads being only black.

Siege Megatron and Sideswipe are good molds. Earthrise Starscream should’ve ceased to be used the second they finished the Coneheads.
Interestingly. Sunstreaker only has 2 repaints RARE and hard to find
Siege Seeker has 13 I think.
I hope we get _one_ more Miner Megs, as a solo. I didn't get the first one because the Scourge mold _really_ doesn't fit Senator ratbat imo, and I won't make it to ComicCon for the second.

I just use it as Devcon’s earth mode. I actually do like the figure though.
A couple other molds that came to mind for me at MP-10 Optimus Prime There are like 19 uses of that mold.
Siege Impactor also came to mind except that mold has actually only been used 5 times. Surprising Combiner Wars Impactor actually has more uses at 11. It was originally Rook.
Oh and all the Sideswipes being retooled into Giggawatt made me want to check how many times Ectotron got reused. 13... or 12 cause the recent rerelease of Ectotron is unchanged from the original except the packaging was changed because they have the release year on the box in the Collaborative logo and the 2019 version was also the anniversary year for when the original Ghostbusters movie released so that was marked on the packaging as well. The 2024 version doesn't have that. And technically Ectotron is also an extensive retool since it does share parts and engineering with Hot Spot. They basically just flipped it around so what was the front on Hot Spot and Onslaught is now the back of Ectrotron. Similar to Giggawat it's impossible to tell they're the same toy in vehicle mode but then you get into robot mode and you see all the robot parts that carried over from the original. Ectotron can not be used as a combiner torso because those connector parts were removed in the retooling but he does retain some hinges on his biceps that I assume were transformation joints to get Hot Spot/Onslaught into torso mode because they don't seem to be used for anything on the Ectotron version. I mean I can kind of fake a double elbow bend but that joint is a little high for an elbow bend and just makes the arm look broken.
Funny enough I've never owned the original versions of either collaborative figure but I just got Ectotron in yesterday.
Would we rather have had them wait until 2025 to reuse the new if-it-is-a-tank SS86 Megatron mold?
I prefer the siege Seeker mold, and I have been TRYING to get ahold of Siege Skywarp. Favorite mold in my favorite color scheme. Like you’ve said previously black and purple is a good color scheme.
The factory has returned the wrong color before, Mark Weber was disappointed with the Joe Crossover Powerglide Rattler coming back off red. If I recall right, during an interview he said one of his biggest regrets was not being able to make the factory re run or fix it. I would believe that the seeker suffered the same, it makes sense.
I knew Sideswipe had to make this list. I think the mould is genuinely great and for a while I wanted to own every colour variation of it just as a joke. But man am I glad I decided against that. I didn't know it'd *still* be going.
Seeing Megatron holding his Fusion Cannon is always off putting

here's how they can get more uses out of the Sideswipe mold; retool the windshield and chest, retool the arms, and then they can pull off the Classics Sideswipe/Sunstreaker thing.
All these reuses and not once has Siege Megatron been made into a new character…

Cloud cover from the toxitron series was released, I know because I own one . They were released through wallmart .
He was talking about the theme of the collection, which was decos that went unreleased during G2 in the 90s. The exception being Toxitron himself because he was a planned Universe 03 toy that never got released.

Saw this reveal, said the same thing, exactly the same thing, while i do have earthrise megs I'll be hinest and say the siege (any version, siege, netflix or the 'leader class' 3 pack) is better. Prime is cool because its 1 a use of a mold that hasnt been used til now with the obvious little updates
They’ll do an insane amount of re-decos for regular Generations, but almost never use a single excuse to recolor the Studio Series molds; despite the insane amount of releases they could get out them, they JUST WONT DO IT.

Megatron mould should have been put to rest right after ER release. That release already had weak knee joints while ankles angled slightly backwards make it very prone to tip back (made worse because of quite hefty backpack). Rise of Tyranny version is literally ragdoll, without going nuts with floor polish (or transparent acrylic paint) the best place for it is storage box.
Siege tetrajet mould got quite a few (mostly, as far as I remember, it sports 2 or 3 head variants) repaints, I think senator Shockwave is 9th use.
Weird thing with Red Alert, in my case Siege version was part of general retail (2nd or 3rd wave) while Kingdom one was some sort of exclusive.
Old habits die hard, though Hasbro seems to be a little smarter with repaints then back in CW/TR days.
On side note, I suppose Legacy Dirge repack is test run, probably coneheads won't get general retail re-release since Dirge is horribly shelfwarming.
It’s fairly easy to remove all the battle damage off of the original Siege Megatron.
I love my Miner Megatron, but it does feel loose in some place out of the box.
I know the Sideswipe mold is over used, but I've been enjoying collecting them. I normally don't go for repaints all that often, but I got all the versions of Earthrise Sunstreaker and really wanted the matching Sideswipes and it gave me the collecting bug for that mold. I'm actually still hoping they put out earth modes for Tigertrack, Deep Cover and black G2, since they remain the odd ones out at this point.
Ever heard of "Don't fix something that doesn't need fixing," or something like that? I'm just defending the Sideswipe and Seeker mold. I'm not defending the Megatron mold. It's cool but ever new release with that mold, feels like it's better on the dark grey IDW Megatron. But hey, that's just me. I'm a broke fan, I haven't handled any of these.

I wouldn't mind the mold being reused so much if it was really good, but it's not. It's arguably one of the worst ones to come out of Siege. Meanwhile, I'll take any and all of the Siege Starscream tetrajet mold because that one is fantastic. I'm still waiting on my Sunstorm from that mold. I do NOT want the Earthrise mold. That paint scraping chest is one of the stupidest modern design aspects I've seen.
They could probably still squeeze the Sideswipe mold for a RID Sideswipe to compliment the Strongarm we previously got. I could see the 86 Jazz mold get a few more reuses.
If you're interested in the Toxitron Sideswipe, I did see four of them in the clearance area at a Walmart near me. Also Kingdom Red Alert was a Walgreens exclusive, and I've seen a few Walgreens that each have a different exclusive. One has three Red Alerts, there's one with a single Minerva, and a third with two Medix figures.
Got the Red Alerts backwards. Siege was general retail, Kingdom was Walgreens. Plus we could still get Earth versions of Tigerstripe, Deep Cover, and G2 Sideswipe.

How many times did we have the Siege Megatron Mold ? This mold needs to die. I am going to wait for Studio Series 86 Megatron, and I hope he doesn’t have a backpack, and has better feet and heels.
TLDR; Hasbro hates wasting a mold.
That said, I don't think any mold will ever dethrone the Classics Seeker one as the most used ever.

Hmm an over used mold i haven't been able to get hold of a copy of, this is if you live outside USA, I want a megatron earth mode which i can get for a cheap price here in Sweden.
All sideswipe is missing is orange, green, purple and maybe even brown, gold, silver and pink, then we could literally do almost every sentai just using sideswipes

The one I get tired of seeing is that stupid skids mold no one liked the original character yet they have redecard it five or six times for different characters
Considering the fact the Transformers card game had Slicer repainted with Armada Wheeljack colors, I get the feeling the Earthrise Wheeljack mold will be repainted into those colors just like the Siege Sideswipe mold
Lol it did get repainted. Not a figure talked about but the slicer has a cool paint scheme and i think it fixed the knee qc the wheeljack figs had

repeat molds is why they only really have like 20 mps, while some 3rd parties have season 1-3 almost complete
