My husband and I have been traveling Lake Michigan area since 1998. We love the shorelines! Love Holland and Farmer Markets. I recognize your route. Traveled so many times! Yes, it’s important to buy the State Park Pass. I’m a Hoosier! Lighthouse Lady! We have been to 86 Lighthouses in Michigan and stay atBig Bay Lighthouse in the Upper Peninsula. Michigan is a beautiful state! Enjoy your trip! You’ll be Amazed!
I lived in Holland Michigan for 22 years. I went to this state park almost everyday. I seen just about everything there. I took over 10,000 pictures through out the years. From sunrise to midnight, from winter to the end of Falls., I have bunch of photos and videos. I flew my drone there many times. I have over 5,000 pictures on my Instagram. It’s my home, and I love it. Thank you for visiting, come again soon.
Hi Russ...we do have quite bit of experience around the great Lakes and its such a beautiful area. Oh yes those Lakes can cause havoc but those areas are beautiful when calm. We have Superior, Huron, Ontaro, Erie , and miles and miles of Shoreline. And yes the greenery is so different from dessert area.....A big wave Russ. KEEP SAFE. ACCORDING TO DOC. CAMPBELL'S REPORT 47 STATES ARE UP BY 58% now with the delta variant so stay safe.... bye for now...thanks for sharing your trip with us.....Carolyn and Colin Hogarth from Osoyoos B.C. Canada...
I enjoyed your video. It gave me a taste of what to expect next month when hubby and I do our Lake Michigan Circle Tour. We plan to camp at many of the state parks along the way. Thanks for sharing.
I live in west Michigan. Enjoy seeing familiar places. We were hoping you would have read the sign by the wall at Vanburen State Park. It says something to the effect of “Don’t walk on, sit on, skateboard on, lean on, run on (and a few other things)”. 😂
Hello Russ😊😊, I have seen all of the Lake Michigan shoreline line. If you are are following the shoreline all the way to Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City and onto Mackinaw City...you are in for a treat. The scenery gets more rugged.
Nice video, great shots. Liked your commentating. But a few things, that big white building you drove past downtown, its new...not being restored, there used to be a small furniture store there. But the building is new, but resembling an older building that used to sit there in the 1890-1970s...from what I read. But thanks for stopping by Holland, this place is a great place to live.
Russ, you past by one of my favor place in MI, Saugatuck! I wish you did stopped by that neat little coastal town. I was surprised when I start to seeing familiar sights when you got turned around and past by the Saugatuck sign on you way to Holland. P.S. Up around that part of the MI is also known as the Napa valley of the Mid West.
i have been watching your youtubes for quite a while now. I have to say you do it right. I love your commentary keep up the good work. I look forward to watching your further adventures. And while typing this i just heard you say Niles. I know it is Niles Michigan i happen to live in Niles Ohio.
Russ, grab a bucket of water out of Lake Michigan. They will never miss it, and you will be glad you have it when you get back out here in the very parched west!!!!
Liked the video, you drove past Saugatuck, neat little town, Oak Grove rv Park was on the road going to holland Beach have camped there many times, travel safe
Ancestors came from Canada into MI so I've got relatives all over the lower peninsula. Don't recall any settling in the UP but we drove thru the area with our family on a vacation. The area is absolutely beautiful. Imagine fall there would be spectacular with all the trees changing colors. Thanks for the touring & the memories you've brought back.
We did that route several years ago. We went all the way to Mackinaw City. We then came down the east side on US 23. Interesting fact, we live 6 miles east of US 31 just north of US 50. We had also stayed at Elkhart Campground on that trip.
You went right by our home. It's funny because we started watching you while we were in Arizona this winter and now we're both in Michigan! We headed up to Ludington Traverse and Petoskey. Be sure to check out Bortell's Fisheries in Ludington for the best fresh fish on the planet.
Keep the videos coming Russ. Thanks for the entertainment and information. A smoke and heat filled summer here so far. Looks much nicer on your road trip. Travel safe and have fun.
Cool! I'm from the thumb Lake Huron side...never spent much time on the Lake Michigan side, so this is fun!! So glad you stayed away from the big cities!! Stay safe!!
GLAD TO SEE THE COUNTRY YOU ARE TRAVELLING. MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SOME OF THESE AREAS. I AM ESPECIALLY ENJOYING IT AS I AM STUCK IN A CHAIR IN MY HOUSE BECAUSE OF HEALTH AND NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL. I REALLY MISS IT
Hi! You must have come through before we camped at VanBuren state park in June, because when we were there there were new stairs down to the beach. The winter of 2019/20 caused a ton of damage to many lake access points. Then pandemic caused delays in rebuilding. Love seeing you tour our area, as your videos have helped us to navigate your area and learn to boondock on Blm land near Quartzite and surrounding areas.
We just got back from exploring the coastlines of several of the Great lakes. For the most part trees covered the view of the lakes from the road like you found but you will find some open areas to see the lakes from the road.
If u get back to the Blue Star Highway, you'll find a small town called Saugatuck, I used to live there, you'll like it. And if u get a chance, check out Climax... 😉
Russ, we love your videos they are beautiful and you go places we love to see. However it has become impossible to watch them on our smart 4K TV, they are blurry and freeze, we can't get through a complete video. They are blurry on the computer also but they don't freeze. This does not happen on your older videos. Also we don't have this problem with other TH-cam videos so I am not sure what the problem is.
Hummmm, I enjoyed it. Small towns, drone footage, lake, lighthouse, campground, maps to assist anyone interested in going, story boards. What was it you wanted to see?
Worked at Sturgis, MI for 6 years and still Love'Ya Michigan......
Welcome to Michigan

I like the "me and my shadow" ..the van's cheery attitude in the early morning light! Blue sky and blue water, just gorgeous.

That is awesome !!
Last time we were there, bought a flat of fresh blueberries, also got fresh corn and new potatoes for supper from the farmers market.
Awesome start to a Great Lakes adventure! Have fun!
👍👍 Small towns up by the Great Lakes are just great. Wish the Winter was less harsh.

Russ, you should re-do the Blue Star Highway again during the Fall season, the Fall foliage is quite amazing.
Folliage is so beautiful!

The sirens in Van Buren State Park are used to warn for weather emergency, nuclear power plant accident, chemical spills.
I've never been to that part of the country either. Really beautiful. Thanks Russ 🚐

Did you know that Michigan has the most lighthouses of any state? (Somehow I bet you did.) Another great video, Russ! Keep 'em coming!
Keep the videos coming Russ. Thanks for the entertainment and information. A smoke and heat filled summer here so far. Looks much nicer on your road trip. Travel safe and have fun.

Just an FYI that building under construction in downtown Holland is a brand new build, not a restoration. :)

Hey Russ,
Another good video.
Be safe out there. 😊👍❤
Water was all the way up to the rock last summer
Enjoyed! Nice riding through the small towns, nice old buildings along Main St, pretty lighthouse. Thanks again for sharing your journey with us. 😊👍
Wow, camping on asphalt and not having a campfire is unheard of in Western NY.
We just got back from exploring the coastlines of several of the Great lakes. For the most part trees covered the view of the lakes from the road like you found but you will find some open areas to see the lakes from the road.
Russ , get yourself a yooperlight rock up there!

Gotta hit pictured rocks in the u.p. and if you can swing it Duluth Minnesota.
What with all the modern navigation tools light houses have become obsolete...until your boat loses power. Great tour!
Russ what’s your general daily driving miles per day?
depends try to keep it less than 100 when in a place like Michigan
He Russ, Michigan is not East Coast
If you could cross Lake Huron in Canada 🇨🇦 we are on the other shore in Midwest Ontario. We are used to the cold winters.
Hay Russ i live close to Ludington would love to meet up with you .
I was just wondering why you're from I'm a michigander all of my life and it's just some of your comments kind of crack me up but it's funny

You and Story Chasing youtuber have been in the same area, at about the same time.
