I loved this game. Ignore everything, run to where you can recruit the first dragon, use all horseshoes on him for skillpoints -> party is turned into a helicopter gunship that will destroy everything with impunity.

Getting the dragon in only the beginning: Once you get the dragon and master his dragon skill with horseshoes, you can go north to Murmurwoods, and get Curi Blackthrone - a level 50 dark elf Patriarch with several Grandmaster skills (to solve your need-some-good-DPS, chest-exploding-in-face, and money problems), then, as you progress in the main quest, join the necromancers, and get the level 30 necromancer from Shadowspire, who can learn Grandmaster water magic, and the Loyd's Beacon spell, and with those characters I managed to finish the game at level 1.

you sure as hell won't have access to your wife.
You got to be careful though, because your character's will receive a -20 debuff to self-worth stat if you have a _dark elf_ in your party with a higher charisma.

considering the guards are inept and don't really care what you do anymore, you can basically run rampant over the cowering peasant populations and kill them all. the guards will make a fleeting attempt to stop you, but realize they are infected with leprosy and die when you stare at them for too long.

As someone who was once culturally enriched by ogre clubs, I can confirm this review to be politically correct.
When so much time has passed, and these videos become a nostalgia trip all on their own. I never played Might and Magic, and I'm never going to play Might and Magic, yet these reviews keep having me come back once or twice a year.

Speaking as someone who lives in Bradford England this was 100% accurate
This game (followed by Might and Magic 7 and briefly Might and Magic 6) was my first game of the series that I've played, without knowing that it is a spin off of Heroes of Might and Magic, especially Might and Magic 7.
In my knowledge and experience of this game, it is the easiest game if you choose to have a dragon (or two) in your party. The necromancer is very broken if you get it to high level (especially on Dark skill) and the Cleric's Light buffs can make your party almost like gods.
Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor in my opinion is the best of these three games that use similar gameplay and graphics.
MediEvil had a level where you're shrunk to the size of angry bullet ants, and need to infiltrate their hive in search of magical little elves, whom they have trapped because why the fuck not. You would get bonus rewards for stealing the queen ant's nectar and killing her vile offspring
10/10, would play as ant-sized skeltal knight and slay entire colonies by beating them with my own skeltal arm again
This is legit one of my favorite games of all time. Such Nostalgia
Tales of Maj'Eyal 4 is a game that I think would fit perfectly fine alongside the other games that Sseth has reviewed, being an unholy roguelike with great gameplay but at the same time having the signature classical roguelike difficulty where you can spend over 100 hours on it and never get even halfway through the main quest- Not because its very long, but because you have limited lives and the game slaughters you very easily.
Love that game, best class diversity I’ve seen in any game and good writing too

I heard it was severely buggy and rushed which sucks because some of the areas do look nice in it, and I heard the skill system was butchered in a lot of ways.
the developers of it talked about it a few years after its release, in which they said it was "pre-pre-alpha". It was WAY more than unfinished.
Holy shit, that explains a lot. So it is another game that had potential if it had time to be finished, quite sad since it was a dishonorable end for a legendary RPG franchise just like Ultima. At least Wizardry ended on a good note...

I'm not gonna lie, I came into this channel from your recently posted homm3 video, and before this I had only seen 2 of your other videos, chiefly the fallout one and the heroes one. So I had some idea of the edge to expect. But then 2:39 happened. You've earned yourself a subscriber.
I think it was M&M6 (and possibly some other versions), I really miss how the "Bow/Arrows" Weapon worked and sounded.
There has been no better in ANY game that I know of. If a game came out with such weapon quality again of that class, I would play that game just for the weapon.

A classic funny vid I sometimes come back to.
The game improved on the previous title in several aspects, the graphics have returned to more impactful, colorful style, character classes have become more specialized with imposed distinction between fighters and spellcasters, the speech of characters has been toned down, the single main character allows to get into the action quicker and identify with this person in the story (as opposed to having four "lords" of one castle), the auto map can now hold markers.
I have a big problem with the forced incorporation of traditionally antagonist or evil races or classes of people, such as trolls or necromancers. I feel that the developers are promoting multiculturalism, to avoid criticism or xenophobia if we were tasked to kill southern peoples (Arabian/Egyptian assasins, the Bin Laden alike mages or the Hungarians in MM6). "Dark" elves could have their place, but liches and skeletons are too much. The only way to get a full mage for the strongest spells (starburst, beacon) is to accept a necromancer, alchemy for white and black potions and identify (!) also require a dark class, highest level training is available only with necromancers or minotaurs (die!!), and notably there is no trainer on human controlled Regna, and they can also not be allied with.
One option is to ignore the appearance of NPCs, which all actually behave like human people with only superficial differences. The dark elves are basically mixed color humans, not that dark actually, and without special properties such as adamantium armor that degrades in sunlight or a distinct culture lead by females. But that hurts immersion.
Monsters seemed to have an unimaginative design, and sometimes appear to be too human. For example, dragons of varying strength all look the same, can speak and mix potions without taking another body form, wasps (insects) fight with sword/dagger and shield and drop their weapons after death, sewer rats are on a level with humans, speak, have family structure and operate ships.
The difficulty feels unbalanced, without a clear growth to respond to, and significantly easier than the previous titles. Around midpoint of the story, a dragon and a dark elf offer to join the party. They are already high level, and the player doesn't get the satisfaction of developing their abilities. From that point on, most dungeons can literally be passed by holding down the shoot button, with an exception of a few areas with elementals and other fire-based creatures. Loot is given out more generously, and stat boosts are frequent but they make almost no impact to the abilities of the party members, and can thus be given to anyone without consideration.

I definitely enjoyed MM8, but it just seemed to be a bit lacking to MM7s polish or MM6s depth (seriously, MM6 just felt so much bigger than 7 or 8). The telltale signs of 3DO starting its downward spiral were starting to appear here.
Of course, MM9 wasn't even really a game so much as just the dying throes of a once trendsetting company. I feel there is something wrong with me, since I still did enjoy MM9, but I could definitely tell it was nowhere near ready.
A lot of the story of Might and Magic also ties in to the Heroes of Might and Magic series. Have you played those, or have any plans on reviewing that set of games?
My mother is genuinely bringing me our old boxed copy of Might and Magic IX, just so I can show you how shit it is. Also I played all the HoMM games man (except the new abominations), I'll cover them some day.

If you are wondering, yes - Blizzard ripped of Algalon from Escaton. They actually ripped loads of their WoW lore from NWC - like titans and their worlds creation stuff, demons being space invaders, and so on. Who cares about a dead company, even if they made such a rare thing as a classic games that rival Blizzard's own in longevity?
