Nice review ! I read this before it was nominated, and had not read her previous novels, so I didn't have any expectations. I very much enjoyed her writing, characterization and the emotional/philosophical/spiritual journeys of her characters. The plot was quiet and I think a few story threads lost me in their importance (primarily the astronomer's story), but for me, the book was more about the characters. There are some people who are writers and others who are artists. I feel Sarah Perry is in the second category and look forward to reading more of her works. I don't always agree that some books should be on any given prize list, but with this one, I was just glad that she is getting more recognition for her craft.

I think if you enjoyed this you should definitely swing back to the Essex Serpent! Quiet is a great way to put it. I realized I didn’t fully unpack all I wanted to with the language here-that it winding in a way that almost feels nostalgic and manages to encapsulate hope and sadness for unrealized dreams throughout. I think Perry’s prose offers lots of understanding for the human experience.

Book quotes. When-While(?) or I will say, as I read a book I keep a pen and notebook with me. Whenever I find something interesting such as a quote or favorite l8ne I will write it down al9ng with the page number. When I USED to review books I never gave a star or number rating. I just said why I liked or didn't like it. I today have decided to stop reviewing books. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed the video. -James
