So eloquent per usual!! Such a great review of themes and nuances. I think I felt a little distracted by the world building but I think I also had different expectations going in (I thought it would be more genre fantasy / genre romance). It is really interesting to hear that it was written during 2020, I did not realize this. I'd be curious to try this author again with more realistic expectations - would you recommend starting with something like Siren Queen or The Empress of Salt and Fortune?

Going in with certain genre expectations can so drastically change the experience for sure-part of the reason I called out that romance sticker since for me that singles genre romance where I have much different expectations! I myself still haven’t read Empress of Salt and Forture 🙈. Siren Queen is a good entry. Personally, I love the Chosen and the Beautiful!
