    ABOUT ME:
    I’m Liam Harrison, Bolton born and bred. I’m a lover of Golf, life and laughter.
    Started Golf 12 years ago after packing in football when i was 28 due to a back injury.
    I started the TH-cam channel as a laugh and a Wim, to make me practice but that went out the window as i started vlogging, loving being on camera but more so the interaction with my #golfmates.
    In 14 months i have seen the channel evolve and become the only real golf community on TH-cam which i am extremly proud of.
    I would like to thank all the #golfmates that have been with us and supported us and the channel from the start. Also not forgetting our new #golfmates that may have only just come across the channel.

      Reason I hold the bottom of the grip with my clubs is that I was poorly fitted with stock shafts which are a bit long, pair this with me being 5'6'' means I was always fatting the ball. With regards to the putter, this is similar, I feel I have more control with the putter when I grip like that.

    Firstly, fair play pal, not easy to go on camera and have your game analysed.
    To break 100 you just need to play consistently for 18 holes.
    High handicappers always suffer at the beginning and end of the round.
    I’d recommend a decent warm up to get that swing loose and making sure you eat around the course to keep energy up at the finish.
    I get the feeling his game has a lot of scar tissue, and he carries this around with him.
    “Thats a typical Par 3, for me - shoots a 6
    Aims left on all tee shots, cause he slices, but doesn’t slice the ball.
    Plays 48deg for every chip shot, I’d guess he has written off his other clubs as they aren’t comfortable.
    Plays a 6iron every fairway shot, again feels comfortable with it and not comfortable with the correct club.
    More disappointed with a high straight drive than hitting three tee shots OB.
    etc
    I’d say the biggest take away is to practise practise practise just to increase your confidence on the course. I’d say you are currently resigned to score high, almost waiting for the blow up hole.
    Celebrate your good shots, don’t dwell on the bad.
    Also, have a clear idea of what is a good score on a hole. Much easier on 400yd par 4s when you know it’s either a Par 5 or 6

    • @wadewade6508
      @wadewade6508 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Think it's when you put your cards in for your initial handicap you don't get anything worse than a double bogey for example if you get a 9 on a par 4 it counts for a 6

    • @seantobin515

      I handed in 3 cards 98, 103,104 and was given 19, that was 3 years ago. Struggling to break 90 atm best was 91, but like Rob course management and short game were terrible, have improved them a lot since but handicap has gone up to 22 over the 3 years. Most rounds in the mid to low 90s but like Rob there’s usually a snowman ⛄️ on every card bringing up the total. Work out the bad shot and eliminate it buddy.

    Rob can break 100 easily he's got the game, just needs a better idea of how far he can actually hit, like you said irons go multiple distances, can't all be Phil Mickelson with a wedge either stick to the bump and run never fails... Good luck pal can't wait to see what you score next round 👍

  • @Marcucas
    @Marcucas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I rarely break 100. But that's because I lose too many balls. Once lost 18 balls in one round and shot 100 🤣😂
    Rob needs to course manage better. Driver every shot is only worthwhile when you are consistent with the club and sometimes like you said a wedge for a chip and run isn't playing the percentages. It's easy for me to say that but you can always see things your own way.
    Once he knows his correct yardage per club and manages the course a little smarter he will easily consistently break 100.

    I like this format Liam.
    This will go against the majority but I would recommend changing the 48 for a 60 and watching Phil Mickelsons 'chipping 101' youtube video. Weight forward, hands forward, ball position. Easy once mastered.
    18 up to 24 is tough. As club golfers know, one can only go up 0.1 if you miss your buffer so unless he has had a handicap review, Rob has played at least 55 supplementary / Competition rounds where he has missed buffer.

  • @IJHitman
    @IJHitman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Rob, your swing is all hands. That’s why you’re inconsistent. You need to turn your shoulders more and have your hands higher and further away from your head at the top of your swing. Currently you’re too steep - that’s why you fat and cut the ball. Also, your pitching at 10 mins, watch your head movement- that’s why you duffed/thinned it. Loads to be positive about though. Just needs some work - get a lesson and work on your takeaway.

  • @fontyyy
    @fontyyy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To not break 100 you just have to not duff (proper duff) the ball. This is the problem 100+ shooters face....not duffing the ball 3,4,5 times on the bounce just trying to get TO the fairway.

  • @davesmitten7239

    Player May Make Stroke While Holding Flagstick
    Rule 13.2b(1) allows a player to make a one-handed stroke while holding the flagstick with the other hand. However, the player may not use the flagstick to steady himself or herself while making a stroke (Rule 4.3a).
    For example, a player may:
    Remove the flagstick from the hole with one hand before putting and continue to hold it while making a one-handed stroke with the other hand.

    I would deff get on a monitor and hit 10 shots with each to get an average and know your distances. From what I seen I'd guess your iron distance as follows:
    PW = 110
    9 =120
    8= 130
    7 = 140
    6= 150
    5= 160
    4 = 170
    Write these down and laminate it and keep it in your bag or tie beside clubs. Great tool to use.

    If hes never broken 100 why is his handicap as low as 24 , he should put 3 cards in to get a realistic handicap ,you should be able to play to your handicap 23% of the time , only use a wedge if you have something to go over , if you have Bunkers both sides of the green lay up just short of the green and it takes them out of play , i always play an average of 5 an hole , our 1st hole is a par 3 , so can be 1 or 2 under my average after 1st , 2nd is a par 5 , so have 1 or 2 shots to play with , he might benefit from using an app called Swing U , Golf GPS score card and stats keeper also you are able to measure how far you hit you clubs on the course and then it works out an average and recommends the club to use , you can click on hazards for measurement to it and the basic version is free

    Question: - Can I hold the flag stick with one hand and putt with the other?

    Answer: Yes.
    The rules state that you can do this providing that the flag stick has been removed from the hole (Decision of the Rules of Golf 17-1/5)

    If the ball were to strike the flag stick you would breach rule 17-3a and incur a 2 shot penalty for strokeplay or loss of hole matchplay.
    You must ensure that the flagstick is not touching the ground whilst you are putting.

    In my opinion Rob could break 100 using around 5 clubs only.
    One for hitting off the tee that could be used for 2nd shots on par 5's and long par 4's, such as a 3/5 wood or hybrid.
    One for advancing it down the fairway at least 150 to 160 yards, also on tight tee shots, maybe a 6 iron
    A club for 130 yards and shorter, also for chipping/pitch and runs, possibly an 8 or 9 iron
    A sand iron/56 degree wedge for out of bunkers and pitching over trouble
    A putter
    This also means less decisions have to be made, as you have less clubs it's usually obvious which club can be used for each shot. I personally love to take 5 clubs out a few times a year, it's really enjoyable.

    Putting pace is an obvious one
    Grips down the club quite far
    But the biggest thing that needs looking at is the club takeaway. At address you have the club behind the ball where it belongs and then before you start the back swing you float the club head on the outside of ball. From that point onwards your body is making up for the swing being offline. Which is why you probably more often than not slice most of your clubs but get the occasional hook. No consistent swing path. Just my observation......and yeah...48 degree.....BIN. If you can't hit it don't use it

    I feel Rob did pretty well playing in front of the camera and having someone there judging his swing. It would be enjoyable to play a round a golf with him.
    So, a few years ago, I was able to help someone drop 10 strokes on their handicap and win the club championship in the same year. Typically, the fastest way to lower handicaps is improving the short game. A pro should look at how Rob is gripping the club. Hands in correct position? Why is he choking so far down the club? Are the clubs correct for him? Further, Rob's swing is a bit steep and hits the ball a bit heavy. He should ensure that he is not lunging as this is a sign of hitting behind the ball. Try to reduce the body movements on those short swings. Rob's golf swing just needs refinements. Using the bump and run shot around the green is OK but for me, it's based on conditions (fast, hard, slow, soft, lot of green to pin or less green to pin, etc). Fun video. Most important advice that I can give HAVE FUN!

    No driver needed to break 100. My 16 year old son started playing golf this summer. 5 weeks after he hit his first balls, he shot a 96 on our par 70 course, only using irons and a hybrid. 7 weeks after he started playing golf he shot a 85 on the same course, with still only irons. Now, after 2 and a half month, he likes to play with the driver. Hits it great sometimes with about 220m carry, but most of the time it is all over the place. He did not break 100 any more, since he uses the driver. ;-)

    I use the same putting grip style and handle as he does and one thing you can't do holding the club that way (or any putting grip style for that matter) is to let your wrists break down and use your hands/arms to control pace, the moment you do that the clubhead opens and shuts as you flip the head with your hands.... There's no way you can get a flush strike on the putt doing that, you'll hit thin putts from the bottom of the putter and some you may even catch the ground... hence you have no chance of predicting how fast the ball will go. He has to use his shoulders and rock them back feeling the hands being very quiet with grip pressure light enough you can feel what the clubhead is doing but not so light that the wrists break down. A good feel for me is feel the trail shoulder going up and lead shoulder going down and keeping that triangle made from both shoulders and the hands in tact and try to feel the pendulum of the putter head and the weight of the head starts the downswing..... it's a putting stroke not a hit, a gradual acceleration of the putter head.

      Ah. I agree with this 100%. I think you could drop the strokes you need to break 100 just with putting. I personally dont feel like I am a good enough golfer to give golfing advice, but I am a therapist and do feel I can give body mechanic advice. If this is the putter grip you like to use and are going to keep it then a good way to stabilize your arms and maintain the triangle pendulum mentioned in the first comment is to gently pull your shoulders back once you have your stance. You want the feeling of squeezing your shoulder blades together but not to an extreme, just a slight retraction of the shoulders about 1/2 the distance possible within the range of motion back. This stabilizes your shoulder blades makes it virtually impossible to swing your arms free and independent of your body. Then if you stabilize your wrists so you dont flip the putter head I think it will make your contact and line much more consistent. Practice that with the tip Liam gave you for pace and once you get used to maintaining that triangle and creating the swing with your body and shoulders you will be making more puts and dropping your score. Good luck and good on you for being willing to do this video with Liam. Loved it. Cant wait to see you meet your goal.

    Stealing from a certain Playa in the South Pacific... find the shots you are comfortable with and build your game around those. The goal of your tee shot should be to have a playable second shot, nothing more. If that's driver, hybrid, iron, even a wedge, do whatever it takes to take penalties out of play off the tee. From there, get it close to or on the green however possible. If that means an extra shot to play distances you are comfortable with, fine. And most importantly, short game short game short game. Practice chipping and putting the majority of the time. The technique you use is your choice, but whatever it is commit to it and practice it. It will save you countless strokes and if you have a day that your game outside 100 yards is working, you're golden for a low score because a good short game travels anywhere. I'm a 12 handicap and if it wasn't for my short game I'd be a 20+ easily.

      I totally agree, i often beat my mate by a few shots just because he insists on using his 64-deg wedge whenever he's inside XX yards, bump and run with a 7 is my choice 90% of the time, and i hit 7/10 which is much better than he's 3/10 with the wedge.

    You are overextending your swing with both driver and irons, go 3 quarter swing then start your down swing, better to be 220yrds straight or just off the fairway than 260yrds in the rough, you should have more weight on your back foot with the driver, spread your legs to give you a better stance and more balance you seemed unsteady in the video on the first driver shot following through and hit it towards trouble, the two you hit well you had better balance, a wider stance will help you hit up on the ball and give you a better flight, are you hitting along the top edge of the driver?
    With your wedge do you have your weight on your front foot? Make sure you do. As liam said sometimes it's better to run a ball up to the green than wedge one on, take your time access you lie and pin location, make a decision and believe in it don't think "oh I'm going to duff it" the bumb and run will take a bit of getting used to but you WILL get better at it and you WILL be closer to the pin, practice different swing lengths with different clubs to bulid mussle memory and visual memory rember how the ball reacts and how far the ball travels
    Spend 10 mins putting at a range of 3-5 foot you will get a feel for the greens and you will make more putts get used to the sound of the ball dropping in to the hole this will give you confidence out on the course.
    If you do have a bad hole don't let it get you down, just say OK I'm allowed that and I have plenty of time to go.

    Great video Liam!
    My points on Robs game.. IM NO EXPERT THOUGH!
    His down swing looks very quick, if he slowed that down and concentrated on getting a good strike I think his flight will be much more controlled.
    Couldn’t agree more with Liam when Rob hit that ball out of bounds. He’d hit two good previous drives and then decided to hit an iron which brought all the danger into play.
    When hitting your driver, consider where you tee the ball up. If possible tee the ball on the right hand side to allow extra room for the sliced.
    When playing the bump and run, understand how far the ball will run after it has pitched. Once you’ve understood that picture the spot where you want to pitch the ball then play your shot. Always commit to the stroke (the first chip on the par 3 the swing tempo was completely different to other chips)
    Putting stroke also looked a little jerky, practice your stroke over and over. To gain extra distance try not to hit the ball harder just make the backstroke longer.
    All in all I think it’ll be very easy to break 100! Keep at it Rob.

    • @robrazzano9168
      @robrazzano9168 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jeddyboi123 Depends who you consider a "golfer." If it's someone who plays enough or belongs to a club so he knows his handicap, then that person is probably already in the top 10% of all people who play golf.
      Most people who play golf don't know what their handicap is. So to say "average handicap is 15" isn't quite fair because it's the data set is biased toward better golfers.

    ahh this is brilliant. i see alot of similarities in my own game(i usually hit 100-120). the swing is there, gotta be more confident in your shot and what your doing cause you can strike the ball rob. i think the first tee shot was just down to it being on camera. the tee shot that went high i think was because the ball was a tad too high on the tee and you got under it, try using the coloured tees that only go so far in, pink or orange is usually good for a driver, ive noticed a massive improvement since switching from a traditional style tee to the plastic pink ones, that way i know the ball is sat the same for every tee shot. and just try and loosen up and not hit the ball too hard, let the club do all the work.
    defo get rid of the wedge, i only just started using a wedge myself practicing on a range, i honestly thought i could do what i want with it, but when i played with it on a course for the first time, it did everything but, was taking 2/3 shots to get on the green every time, i soon learned that hitting a wedge on grass is completely different to a matt..so i went omp style 7 or 8 iron and started bumping it on the green, it will take some practise, but aslong as there isnt and obstacle, omp it every time ;)
    and i think this is where the biggest thing is, ive realised this recently(my short game and putting is shocking), rob said it was his short game that let him down, ask your self, how much time do you spend on a chipping/putting green in comparison to the driving range. in the past 2 months i must of hit 600/800 balls on the range, and not a single one on the putting green right next to it, and then i wonder why i usually 3 putt sometimes even 4 if the greens arent great. so it might be worth only taking shorter irons and a putter down to a range, i tend to hit 5 or 10 with the driver then leave it now and just practise my short game because honestly i think were very similar, we can both play, we just need to find the mistakes in our game and remove them, but its sometimes hard to work out what your doing wrong, especially if your like me and arent sure what you should be doing in the first placce haha
    the putting drills in the video look great, im defo going to give them a go.
    sorry my comment is so long, im no expert or anything, far from it, i do think we play similarly and that weve both easily got it in us to beat that 100 mark. looking forward to seeing you do it :D

As a high handicapper it dont make sense trying to get to the flag every time. Especially if there is danger between u and the flag. At the top of the back swing, meaning when your left shoulder touches your chin, if your left arm is straight the club shaft should not be less than 90 degrees to that left arm.
