Hi Luke, really enjoyed this especially since I’ve played the course myself! I loved the graphic on the right of the screen. Some huge golf channels don’t bother to do this and then when you don’t know the course you can get lost where they are on the hole and how the shots have gone. This little touch made the video very watchable!

I'm playing nearly as much golf this winter as I did over the summer. The cold temperatures and "extra moisture" keep the courses delightfully uncrowded; it's just me and the other golf sicko's now!

Just discovered your channel, great stuff. I’m a similar standard to you (12.6 world handicap). One thing that has helped me in the winter is always taking one extra club as I often come up short, and never taking three 3 wood off the fairway - always switching to 5 wood, which works out better most of the time. Looking forward to see more videos from you!

First time tuning in from New Zealand. The way I look at it is that at 15 handicap you are only expected to make 3 pars during a round. You made 6. Already under par. If you can eliminate the triples and turn those into doubles then that's another 3 shots. Throw in a wee bit more course management, like not going for the green with a long iron over water and just laying up, saving even more. All in all, a great round.
Definitely practice the bump and run. 1/3 air time for total distance = 2/3 distance run out.
Interesting! I'd say I probably make about 5 pars per round on average which likely means I shoot more doubles to make up for that. Better course management is definitely the low hanging fruit for me I think 👍 Thanks

Nice video Luke. With snow now on the ground here I am stuck hitting balls into a net in the garage, taking videos of my swing trying to engrain better habits without any sort of ball-flight feedback. Good? Not really, but I can only take so many indoor putting drills. Cheers.

Winter golf: Need to recalibrate distances in the colder weather. Plus, Easy to lose balls when hitting into a low sun. So a playing partner/Spotter is needed.
Tomorrow will be my first really cold start of this winter....-3°C forecast for overnight temp..My tee time is 10am, so hoping will be above freezing!!

nice video, i was once given the advice of play bogey golf to break 90 it sure helped me out in the early days , eventually after practice and understanding where you made your mistakes you will learn to erase them from your round and you’ll soon be breaking 80, then 75 !

Something that’s worked for me, and might for you, is ditching the 3w/5w and going to a 7w. Much more consistent and while it won’t go as far as a flushed 3w, it was rare for me to hit them well. Now I just go Driver/7w/21 deg 5i/26 deg 6i. Only use the low irons off the tee really.

A 15 hdcp probably shouldn't even carry a 4I in the bag. I would take it out and replace it with a 22 degree #4 hybrid. The hybrid might gain you another ten yards and its versatility out of the rough makes it an easier club to hit. Other than that one tee shot he was hitting his 3W just about as far as his driver so he might even consider taking out the driver and replacing it with that 7W and then use the 3W from the tee while the 7W can be his go to fairway club when he needs accuracy on longer shots. If he can find a 20 degree 7W that is adjustable for loft +/- 1 to 2 degrees so much the better. He could then adjust it down 1 degree to give him a 3 degree gap between that club and the 22 degree hybrid. I have the Callaway Epic Heavenwood that is a standard 20 degree and which is adjustable.

for a 15 hc, you make so many good choices around the course. most golfers would hit driver on those short par 4s, but the fact that you're hitting 3 woods will make you a great golfer in the future

Hi Luke, I’m writing from Rome in Italy🇮🇹, one advice I can give you for this new year 2k23 would be to work very much on approaches and putts. If you have a teacher who following you, ask him to make training cards designed for you, so you will definitely improve your game. Have a nice golf and good luck!! ;)

I'm still playing. If it's not raining and windy and over 35 degrees I'm going to play. Great job breaking 90. Looks like we both have issues struggling with the fairway woods and an occasional pulled left shot.

Recovery on the back 9 was unreal, triple aside (which was essentially a bogey without the drop) going to be close to touching 80 soon in prime conditions. Brave ducks/geese always appreciated the shots they must have seen 😂

Well played, 5 pars in a row is wicked. You mention the wintery conditions, but you also dress like I would dress in June playing golf in Berlin 🙂. I usually don't get out on the course if it's below 12 degrees (maybe 10 but then with full sun). I'm currently in a warmer climate in Aotearoa New Zealand, so should be all warmed up golf-wise when returning to Europe in the beginning of spring.

I live in Pennsylvania US pretty much unless you have a membership most courses are closed this time of the year.
My only hole in one was made with a stinger Shot That only went about 50' in the air for a 172 yds it hit the green bounced once, rolled and disappeared given it was a stinger I thought it was over the green. Never checked the hole first, given the nature of the shot. Searched behind the green. Found a similar ball but not my exact ball. So my playing mates and I agreed to just play that ball. When my playing mate went to pull the pin he found my ball sitting at the bottom of the cup. It was my first and only hole in one.

Nice video good content. When putting in the winter on damp greens sometimes you might stroke it a little harder. Because the damp green will slow the roll significantly, especially uphill

I enjoyed looking at this video, it is very similar to what I do myself, I chunk a lot of my chips off the green so I put from long distance and don't chip anymore, triple bogeys are heart breaking 😂

I was playing quite a bit up until this week when the weather turned much colder (Philadelphia region). Mid 40's F is my temperature threshold for golf. I enjoyed watching a player with a similar handicap to my own work around the course. The driving and approach shots were very similar to my game. The major difference was in chipping and putting. Perhaps it was the conditions ....but my short game is much better (aside from the early back 9 par run). I'm a 13 hdcp....maybe those 2 strokes of difference in hdcp are where short game differences matter? In any event....I enjoyed the video....thanks for posting!

Our biggest problem as mid handicapers is that we never take eough club. Im a 12 handicap and my problem is putting (i suck). i can 3 putt from 5 ft with the best of them....im a new subscriber

Luke, why do you choose to go with a 60 wedge out of the sand, as opposed to the usual 56? And second question, as a novice golfer did you realize initially that there was a 14 club limit and do you stick to that "rule" or not? I wasn't aware of that rule and I carried 17 clubs for 2 years until I joined a league and discovered it. I wanted to go by the book, so I trimmed my bag down to 14 but I'm curious as to weather anyone else made that mistake.
I was late to the party on the 14 clubs too Canuck! 😂 Not sure on the 60 wedge. I don't use it as often anymore
Very well played and wonderful details on club use,distance and figures plus the overhead diagrams of each hole. As you hit irons well, did you ever consider utility irons to hit off tees? Less distance a little but more accurate.
I use a 21 degree iron as a tee club on narrow holes (5i but that’s only because modern clubs have jacked lofts). I can confirm, for me anyway, that it’s far more accurate than a fairway or hybrid. Can get it to 200 yards on a good swing and I’m barely a 90mph driver.
@@PB-sc5uo 21 degree is 3 iton loft , wow your distance is fantastic. Yes long irons are more accurate, harder to hit and thats why utility irons are a little better. But thanks for your reply and love to see you hitting a 18 degree,youd get 220. I use 15,18 and 21 degree utility plus 2,3 irons off fairways on long holes. Enjoy yourself and best wishes
I very nearly bought a driving iron and instead opted for the 3 hybrid. However, I haven't really found my flow with that club. Interesting to hear you both have had good experiences with the irons though 👍

Just rotating a little fast and the club is getting left behind only a tad,( it's not really bad). It leaves the face open at impact, and making the ball go right. Just need to let the arms go first and then rotate. That will stop your drives from spinning and you'll defo get up to 220-230 carry.

Your struggling with the same thing I have since I started playing - standing up in the down swing / early extension and then topping it! I feel the pain, but I think im through it fingers crossed!

I’d be willing to bet you lower your handicap a full point or more just by chipping with a 9 iron or 8 iron on those close chips around the greens. Worked for me. If I’m within 30 feet of the hole around the green I go up and down way more than when i used to try higher loft wedges

Well played. I’m off 18 and currently getting lessons and changing swing, I find it difficult to judge how often I should go to the course v going range to practice what I’m being taught to change 😅
Skip the range, just go play golf as your practice.
Agh I know what you mean Ryan. I'm going to the range once per week with the solid intention of thinking about and working on my swing. Then when I'm on course, I try my best not to think about the things I'm working on and just enjoy the round. Can be easier said than done 😅

Thanks Dan, appreciate that! I do try and keep my weight forward a little and that's probably due to watching someone like Tom Saguto early on when I started. I think a stack and tilt instructor would be offended if you classed my swing as that though 😂

Thanks man! Yeah I got fitted for all my irons and wedges. My driver, 3 wood and rescue are just off the rack though. I think I would recommend it. I don't have any data to back that up or anything but particularly for someone like myself who is on the shorter side, I feel like fitted clubs can only help.

You hit the irons pretty well, but that 3 wood seems to be a point of contention in your game. I swapped my 3W out for an older hybrid 2 iron and saw immediate improvement. Maybe give a 15-17 degree hybrid 2 a try and see how it does? My RBZ Stage 2 Tour hybrid adjusts down to 15 and wasn't expensive 2 hand. Good luck!

Orlando, FL here. Winter golf here is quite enjoyable as the temp yesterday was about 82 degrees F and bright sun. The tough weather here is Summer when the temp and the humidity is 90 to 95 and the sun beats down mercilessly. (Heat exhaustion can and does happen in the summer here.) Great video as I'm about and 18 - 20 and I'm 73 and I can relate to your bad shots. I might suggest that you add a 5 wood to your arsenal: it's shorter and easier to swing for a 190 to 200 yard shot. The one thing I noticed is how slow the greens were at your course as FL greens are usually quite fast, unless they're dewy or haven't been mowed.

First time I’ve seen one of your videos Luke. I’m very impressed. I have only broke 90 1 time so far (87), so I can really relate to your round here. If I’m not mistaken, on the 17th! the rule for a ball in water in a bunker is you have to take relief no more than 1 club length from the water but still in the bunker to not be penalized. You took relief outside the bunker which means you should add 1 stroke for that hole. Correct me if I’m wrong or is the rule different then here in the U.S.? I think I would like to do a video exactly how you did. What camera do you use? What do you do for the ball flight? What do you use for the graphic on the top right? Is that a template of some sort? How long did it take you to edit the video? Great job! I look forward to seeing your next round!

I use my iPhone for filming, ShotTracerPro for tracers, I make everything myself in editing software. Each video probably takes me around 12-15 hours total

I think I got 5 rounds in November. But now winter is really setting in and the temperature is now freezing or below so can't really get out. Shot 90 3 times which is nice but frustrating being so close to going under 90 those times to really start lowering my handicap that is sitting at a 16.

@@UpDownGolf thankfully I did shoot an 87 this year. Just had a string of like 7 rounds after the 87 of between 95-90
