this song was and also wasn't about her, now, husband.
when amy and him met, she was in an abusive relationship. they had mutual friends and met at an outing where (i think, it's been years since i've read the story) they were both early and so the only ones there. after a while of friendly conversation (I assume) he stopped and asked her if she was happy. the question caught her off guard because she wasn't. not in the slightest. but she hadn't expected anyone to pick up on it.
this song was about that feeling of being seen by someone when you're so deep in depression.
turns out, he's a therapist (or in the psychology field in some way, if not a therapist) so he was able to see that she was hurting inside. years later, they started dating and married. :)

I remember the story. You went into more detail. I heard when they both got married, he was involved in some Christian therapy organization. This had nothing to do with the rumors that Evanescence was a Christian band. Amy said that was a "Ben thing".

This video is so deep on many levels. She's walking past windows and people inside dont seem to notice (or care), the partying clown people... in the second shot one of them removes their happy face mask to reveal she's really crying behind it, then finally only one person in the band see's her outside and tries to help. This video give me goosebumps too. BTW, there is a sailing themed video of this song. Check it out. Sailing is a good theme to use because it will test your guts and endurance. Do you bring the boat to life or does the boat bring you to life?

Everybody's Fool kicks ass!
It's essentially a diss track towards the big pop idols of the day (Britney, Paris, etc)...but it's aged pretty well and still applies to a lot of pop culture and social media icons.
Definitely "Everybody's Fool", it's probably my long time favorite from Evanescence and has such an amazing, touching point on its lyrics.
Fun fact (as far as I remember Amy saying in an interview): She never wanted to have the male vocalist doing any parts in this song. That's why the live performances are always just herself singing it, and that's why the band doesn't include a second singer. Though I must admit, this sounds great, but I also kind of see how it's unfitting for the band's unique sound.

I'm thinking it has a lot similarities with song topics handling bullying, but it doesn't directly imply that. As others have said I strongly recommend Within Temptation (Jillian for the classic feel and I cannot stop listening to their new heavier The Reckoning), Lacuna Coil, Halestorm, and if you want to hear more female harsh vocals try out Rage of Light: Mechanicals, I can I will, Twighlight of the Thunder God (Amon Amarth cover) or Candyman (Aqua cover).

fun bit of trivia: that band originally wasn't a nu-metal rap band. They got their first contract, and the label forced them to re-write and add the rap aspect to some of their songs, because the genre was very popular at the time. They agreed because they were afraid they'd lose the deal if they said no. Today Amy Lee says it's one of the biggest mistakes of her career, and if she had it to do over, she would say no.

I used to use his song to get pumped for raids. It came out when I was in Iraq. After my first firefight, I felt like a part of me I didn’t know about had woken up. Lzzy is a great traditional blues based rock vocalists. But you should check the latest Jinjer song out called "Judgement and punishment" Tatiana Shmaylyuk is in my opinion the most impressive metal vocalists next to Floor Jansen in her ability to switch from different vocal styles. Her band Jinjer is amazing as well in how effortlessly they are able to switch up on timing signatures, tempo changes, style changes like in the Judgement and punishment song with them going from prog metal, groove metal, death metal and reggae music mixed together all in one song.

It is very, very rare David Shryock to hear someone go from opera to death metal screaming and growling to traditional rock and pop style vocals and Floor is a master at these transitions of mixing in all these vocal styles. Their are many outstanding vocalists over the years but none are as versatile as Floor Jansen in the metal genre. The next best new vocalist that I heard for just for the 1st time back in December of last year with this versatility in metal is Tatiana Shmaylyuk and her bandmates are as equally talented with their instruments as she is a vocalist making this the best new metal band that I heard this decade. Jinjer is just mindblowing awesome and is rapidly rising in popularity. They are not only attracting metalheads but fans of many other genres. Metal bands usually do terribly for attracting fans that like other genres as their favorite genre probably because so many metal bands from the last 2 decades have been 1 dimensional with just screaming vocals only and playing as fast and as heavy as possible all of the time. Doing that gets old and boring fast. The rare negativity that Jinjer gets are mostly from these hardcore metal fans that believe metal should be played fast and heavy all of the time with screaming and grawling vocals all of the time and especially hate a band like Jinjer who successfully mixes in rap, reggie, and bosa nova jazz styles and other styles as well in metal. Probably most of these hardcore metalheads that hate Jinjer hate them because they are gaining so much attention and rapidly gaining a fan base that is not only rivaling the top metal bands of the past 4 decades but also competing successfully with the traditional rock radio bands that are being heavily promoted by the mainstream like Greta Van Fleet. These hardcore metalheads that want metal to be only underground and stay fast and heavy remind me of those South Park characters that call everyone conformists, lol! But back to Jinjers popularity it is very impressive considering that we can only currently hear Jinjer from the internet and also that this band is from a small populated country, the Ukraine and how many musicians that we know ever made it big from the Ukraine, especially with most of the mainstream using most of it's time and money promoting USA and western Europeean artists. I am not comparing Lzzy Hale to any of these 2 women because to me metal and hard rock are too different to be compared together. For me Lzzy Hale is the best female rock vocalists currently and one of the best rock vocalists female or male in rock's history.

Dude, the intensity in your face at the end there was like exactly how I felt when I first saw this video, which was also the first time I'd heard the song or Evanescence at all, so you know it f**ked me up. Just a dark, beautiful masterpiece.

If you didn't notice, she was trying to pull him down with her I believe - That's why he chose to drop her, either accidentally or on purpose. That explains why the guy kept yelling “save me”. He was yelling that because she was trying to pull him out the window with her, and he was yelling for help. He even said “Don't let me die here” in one part of the song. That's how I interpreted this.
