    Your videos have given a very interesting insight to what it is like 'up front' on the 'tube'...I myself am a mainline driver. 31 years in, with 7 still left to go. Spent most of my career on HST's until some idiot decided they were unfit/outdated and got rid of them. I always fancied a go on the tube though as it has an atmosphere all of its own.

    Watching this series has been a really interesting view of the life of a train driver. Driving is a goal I have had in mind for years and I hope to reach it at some point in my life once I can get my career going forward, somewhere on the railway who knows where. Although I will be honest I do not think I would want ATO as it would probably get a bit repetitive after a while 😆
    Happy retirement, looking forward to seeing what you have for this channel in the future.

      Thanks, yes so much, I watched the old Wembley Stadium be demolished , the new one built and then they hid it with so many flats. At Stratford the Olympic stadium and again so many flats. The DLR at Canning Town and the cable car across from Greenwich. That skyline has changed, for sure!! 👍👍

    I see or not see. Your tunnels are very dark. Funny how us british don't mind that. A lot of other countries have either strong head lights or tunnel lights.
    I have done end to end on most lines. So as I am now down in Dawlish it's been great to see some of the changes. For the good not sure about this.

    Great series of videos! I always wondered what those blue indicators were at the ends of the platform, I thought they were signals of sorts related to the ATO system but they're for the doors.

    • @itsjustanidea
      @itsjustanidea  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, and you’re correct on both counts.
      They are an indication of doors being closed and you will notice a blue light behind me and between the door close buttons, they are all linked and to the ATO system. The train cannot move unless that blue light is illuminated, why it’s referred to as the “pilot “ light. 👍👍

    At 01:21, the two blades on the point seem to be on separate bars and to be switched separately. Does it act as a catch point for the siding rather than only being switched to one road or another? It can in effect be switched to neither road to prevent a runaway?

    Congratulations on your retirement great videos I have a question why at some stations is there a glass barrier between the trains and the platform

    • @itsjustanidea
      @itsjustanidea  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for watching, your best wishes and your interesting question.
      There is a misconception that the glass barrier between the track and platform is for safety purposes. The section of track was completed to open the extended jubilee line from green park in 2000, and is referred to as “ the extension “. This new section included a tunnel ventilation system that can blow in either direction when needed and the glass walls and platform edge doors are to stop that air from dissipating through the platforms, the tunnel ventilation system wouldn’t work without them. The obvious safety benefit is really just a bonus.
      I hope that answer is ok.
      Thanks again 👍👍

    • @itsjustanidea
      @itsjustanidea  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. The rota pattern switched between late and early starts with night shifts roughly every 12 weeks or so.

      @@itsjustanidea Was the night shift less prone to having line controllers turn you around, in the middle of the route?

    • @itsjustanidea
      @itsjustanidea  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DavidShepheard Now that’s a good question thanks for asking. There are two different types of night shift on the Jubilee line.
      On Friday & Saturday nights the Jubilee line is one of the few that currently run what is called the “ Night tube” a 24 hr service , an obviously less frequent service but still prone to train and signal failures that might lead to some shortened trips.
      Then from Sunday to Thursday there are what we refer to night shifts, during which you drive the last service trains of one day and the first trains of the next. Most of these reach their destination. Hope that helps 👍👍
