Standing Pilates for Osteoporosis and Osteopenia | At Home Standing Exercise | 30 Mins

  • Join me for a 30 Minute standing pilates for Osteoporosis and Osteopenia - this session is aimed at people over 50 and Seniors but is suitbable as a strength traininbg session for all age groups. This is a full body routine to improve balance, strength, endurance and give you a light cardio workout. With osteoporosis and osteopoenia it's very important to do weight bearing exercise regularly to combat the loss of strength, coordination and balance that comeds with age and in addtion the need to build healthy bones with these condtions. The saying 'use it or lose it' is so true! Doing these exercises regularly will improve all these things and build your strength so I am recommending you build up to doing this workout at least twice a week. I've taught these exercises to my Senior clients in London, they are ages 60- 83. Take your time and do what you can, if anything is too challenging for you right now, don't worry, just rest and come back and try again when you're ready. Take care of yourselves.
    The session will be followed by a Q & A where from the comfort of your own home you can ask me questions, or just say hello whilst enjoying a nice cup of tea at a safe social distance.

    Dear Rachel. Quite challenging at 85 with osteoporosis and osteopenia but really great. My days revolve around my workouts with you after which I always feel alive and loose. Balance is starting to challenge if I dont “use it” x x x

    I have upper back osteoporosis. This was a great workout. I had a few problems with balance. I will do the program again and again

I keep coming back to this one and the other video that focuses on strengthening the back whenever I am experiencing back pain. They are fantastic. I would love to see another standing class that focuses on strengthening the upper and lower back. Thanks for all you do. It's much appreciated.

    Hello from a 70 year old guy trying to reduce my upper back curvature from osteoporosis. I cam tell small changes are occurring. I admit that the movements take enough energy to cause me to take 4 minute or two breaks. My goal is to be able to do the whole class without taking rest breaks.

    Thank you Rachel for these outstanding classes. They’re really helping me now that I’ve been diagnosed with osteopenia. I am very active but this class has been a blessing to my bones and muscles, as I prefer to treat my condition holistically so I appreciate any of your other classes as well.     Rachel, thank you again for another wonderful session for seniors! I missed it live on Monday but I have just listened to the chat and love the suggestions for further classes - especially on core work and I have a magic circle! I also did your stretch bad session the other day. I will endeavour to do Pilates every day, even if it is just one of your 10 minute session!

    I dont have either of these conditions but found it very useful as do have arthritis in my back. Great workout Rachel. You are the best.

      Excellent Margaret. And yes, as writh many of the sessions i do thay can work for all sorts of bodies, ages and conditions and I think this one was good becasue it was gentle but worked the back and shoulders which are often neglected so well done for doing it 😊👏

    This was so wonderful. I don’t have osteoporosis but this was challenging and a great Pilates workout. 💖 Loved it. I love all the standing Pilates. Maybe one with more upper body focus?

    Wow, that was extremely challenging for me because of balance issues and ataxia- definitely had to keep one hand on the chair back for some of these exercises, but I did it!👍🏻😉💙💛

    Rachel, thank you for another great workout. I noticed that you didn't include any roll downs or other exercises involving flexion of the back. Should exercisers with osteoporosis and osteopoenia avoid flexion?

      Hello Norman, yes that’s correct. It’s always recommended to avoid spinal flexion for people with osteoporosis and osteopenia. Extension is highly recommended which is why this session focuses on it as well as lots of core, leg, hip and glute work. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
