  • How to use the Denman Brush for Wavy Curly Hair
Since my hair isn't super curly, I didn't prefer the results when I used the Denman Brush to style, but I discovered it worked well when I used it in the shower! I only use it about once a month to smooth my curl clumps, but my hair does best when I use it sparingly. If my hair starts to look stringy, I will use the Denman Brush which helps clump the curls back together and reduce frizz.

Wow this is actually the best video I’ve seen for wavy/curlies and the denman brush. Thank you!

I have watched several videos about using the Denman brush and yours was the most useful for me. My hair is a similar curl type to yours but shorter. Thank you so much!

I have considered trying the denman brush doing it the way you are, I just can't. Way too much work.
Knowing how i am, it would totally stress me out!
I have seen a podcaster named Jordon Faith and she has really thick waves. She does not use a denman brush but a wet brush with a specific technique. She gets really nice clumps when it's wet
and after it's dried. I think that I will try her way. I appreciate your podcasts and I love your beautiful waves! Thanks for the demo and explanation. You might want to see what Jordon Faith does with the
wet brush. She is helpful. BTW, I love, love, love the violin. It makes me feel so emotional. My most favorite instrument.

Thank you! I will definitely check her out! I love finding new techniques and learning from each other😊 I can totally appreciate not wanting to add more stress and it’s important to do what works for you. You should enjoy you curls!

Omgsh thanks. I just used my Denmain today and I was about to throw it out the window! Seriously I end up pulling out so much more hair than usual. It tangles it even if it's detangles. Tried the ringlet handle technique too and all it does is the brush ends up stuck like litteraly stuck in my head. I'll try to remove some rows again. ❤️ Great video.

Lol I about did the same thing when I first used the brush. It got stuck in my hair and was tricky to get out! Have you had better luck with it? I definitely don’t use it the way most do (the ringlet thing did not work on my hair) but it helps clump my curls back together after it starts to look stringy.

I can understand! It definitely isn’t for everyone. I’ve been trying out the Perfect Brush which I will do a video on soon. It doesn’t get stuck in your hair at all.

Thanks for the tutorial - the brush hasn't impressed me yet, but I haven't tried it upside down yet. for What did you mean by "rinsing" after the whole brush styling? Did you just wash your hair again with water, wouldn't that break the clumps again? Also, did you use any gel/cream on your hair before/after styling?

Thanks for your comment and great questions! I simply rinsed the conditioner out with water. I put conditioner in my hair, then used the brush, then rinsed conditioner out. Yes, it will break it up some which is why I wasn’t too worried about getting bigger sections of my hair while using the brush, instead of trying to use it as a way to style individual curls. What I liked is that my hair still clumped together better (even after rinsing), smoothed it out and wasn’t as stringy. I styled my hair as I normally do after I rinsed - leave in conditioner, styling cream and a gel (I actually used innersense foam instead of a gel, which gives me a cast like a gel does). I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Why’s the point of styling with the brush then rinsing your hair? Wouldn’t it make more sense to use the brush with gel?? Seems to defeat the purpose of the brush.

That’s a great question! I don’t use it to style my hair and since the only time I “brush” my hair is with my fingers in the shower after I apply conditioner, using it in the way I show in the video makes my curls clump nicely together. When my hair starts to look a bit stringy (about once a month) I use it in the shower to help my curls clump together better. Even though I rinse my hair after using the brush, it really works!

I absolutely detest this overhyped brush. 😕 It doesn't nothing any other brush designed like it would do, and there are many others, cheaper. 🤷‍♀️

I appreciate your comment! I can totally understand your perspective. I think all hair products are personal preference and I know those with super curly/coily hair get more of a benefit than my wavy/curly hair. In general, I don’t use a brush, but I also enjoy trying new products out.
