      @Raul Izquierdo congrats on your new pair of gouldians wish you the best with them. An thank you for the complement im glad the video has inspired some ideas for your aviary build. Im in Tampa here I havent seen any owls near the aviary but do have quite a bit of hawks that perch close and stare at the birds. So far never had a problem besides the birds just getting scared! As long as you get a small sized mesh like the 1/4" nothing should be able to get in besides small lizards.

    Hey man awesome videos you make been following you for a little while now and always love watching your videos. I got a question i have 4 young parrot finches in my aviary and i heard when they fly out the nest you can better set them separate from the parents because they will chase them down. but if i do that they are 3 weeks old so they do not eat on their own yet do i have to handfeed them than myself?

  • @chrisbrownlov1

    I sent a question on instagram but gonna try here also. A wild house finch built her nest on my porch, last night a stray cat attacked 3 times but they didn't get hurt. I brought the nest in, took it out early morning, and parents came back thank goodness, but a cat attacked again, sadly killed one of the baby birds. And it was stuck and bloody. Parents weren't feeding as often anymore and stopped coming, I ended up bringing the nest inside. They look like nestlings, small feathers but still a bit fuzzy, maybe 10 days old?? They're eyes are open but they control movement. There's no wildlife rehabilitation center near me, only one small veterinarian but only for dogs and cats. I know nothing about birds, I don't even have pets because I don't have the time. But I also don't want these little guys to die. What do you recommend? I did rush to the store to buy that katee formula powder to feed them. How do I know if they're full because anytime they sense movement they open their mouths now? Would it be better to feed them most dog food or hard boiled egg as it's what I've come across.. Just sounds wierd.

    I found a wild birds egg (I’m not sure what it is but it looks like a cardinal egg?). I put it in my incubator with some quail eggs I had in there and it actually hatched this morning! I’m trying to figure out how long to wait before feeding, I keep reading to wait 6-12 hours?! Excellent and informative video by the way!!

    Last time I handfed chicks one of them had not developed a proper claw/foot and couldn’t walk/jump and kept bleeding. I noticed you both have napkins under the recently hatched ones and sometimes use nesting material like coconut fiber. When should I put them on the nesting material in the brooder? After how many days old so their feed develops naturally

    Your video is amazing! You are so knowledgeable and practical, well done.. I love the advice on the temperature control, but I never saw how you achieve that. Is that a type of cooler box or a special incubator, please excuse my ignorance, we just saw our first day old zebra finch baby and there are 5 more eggs to hatch . We h r so much to learn.

      Hi @Shannon Thomson, Thank you im glad you found the video usefull and good luck with your new chicks its always so exciting when we get new chicks in the nest. That feeling never gets old! As far as the brooder that im using to keep them warm its a small baby wipe warmer. In this videos description box theres a few links to different videos ive made one of them being the one where i talk about how you can use a small wipe warmer to keep newly hatched chicks alive if you dont have an incubator or profesional brooder.

    Can you help. I've a 4 day old zebra finch. Mum and dad wouldnt feed it. I started feeding today. It's been 24 hours and still has alot of food in its crop. It's pooing but the food won't go down. Do I stop feeding so the crop goes down please help or what can I do as I think I've over fed it

  • @MerrinJames
    @MerrinJames 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello! I hope you reply to this because it's an emergency. I have a baby finch that I'm trying to hand feed and care for since yesterday morning. I got a baby bird hand feed feed and a syringe of about 2 cc. It ate a little more than a 0.5cc yesterday before it stopped begging for food and I fed it the same way every 2 hours or so. And today, I've been trying to go on a hunch and stop when it stops begging or until the crop is full, whichever comes first. So usually somewhere close to 1cc. But that's the thing. Even when the crop looks pretty rounded to me, it will still beg and I don't know whether I should go on cuz I read that overfeeding can damage its crop perhaps permanently. From the looks of it, it's somewhere between 8-12 days of age, with pin feathers on its wing and everything. This is my first time ever hand feeding so I'm not sure how to go along with it. Also, what should a full crop look like? The baby's crop appears pretty round after me feeding it, but there's still space on the side parts of the same that is not filled with the formula, but I'm afraid to feed anymore cuz the crop looks very distended. Please help.

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi so sorry for the late response but it sounds like your doing an amazing job feeding this baby bird. Sometimes they just dont know when to stop begging so its important to know when to stop. Once you see the crop is full and distended its time to stop otherwise they may not digest all the food and this will cause a fungal infection in their crop.

    how long o you wait to give the first feed

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a very good question, wish i would have put in the video. Usually I wait about 1 or 2 hours after the chick hatches by this time they have already deficated for the 1st time and are ready to be fed. Once the chick hatch they have food in their stomach from the egg yolk they sucked up prior to hatching so they dont need food right away.

      Not much you can do but wait and hope that it hatches. With bigger birds like pigeons, chickens and parrots ive heard of people helping the chicks hatch out the egg by breaking it in the right places but this is not easy to do with a small egg like a finches. Let me know how it goes, hope it hatches soon !
