Great shots! You look like a knowledgeable person, so I hope you don't mind me asking. Would these shots be achieved with a sub $2k camcorder like the panasonic HC-X 1500 or the Canon Vixia HF G70?
I'm not familiar with those cameras, so I cannot speak to their capabilities. However, I have used other, more expensive models from Panasonic (CX350) and Canon (XF605) and I can tell you that those cameras cannot match the image quality, features, or performance of the Z200 and NX800. If someone disagrees with that assessment, then I'd ask them to post some split screen footage that proves me wrong. 🙂
wow...this looks great! This camcorder really seems to be great- sharp footage and autofocus looks good. I hope to see more demos. Is this the best procamcorder under $5k US?
@@DougJensenVortexMedia your expert opinion is all I need! I thought about getting the Canon XF605 a while back but I decided to wait...this new Sony has better pic it seems even for a 1" sensor-but I need it for live events to make my life easier...for other things I have a couple of FX30s-What profile is this? Did you tweak pic settings a bit? I know you shoot in 4k but edit in HD (same here)-How is the HD with this camera? I know you mixed 4k and HD here and I can't quite tell the dif. Maybe a bit softer? This footage looks full of colour and life! The only thing is that I hope that Sony adds the option to program one of the rings to iris because I don't like the little iris wheel on the side...thanks
@@TheFandangovideoguy This footage was shot with S-Cinetone and graded in Resolve. I'm still experimenting with other paint settings, so I don't know if S-Cinetone will be my final choice or not. As for there not being an iris ring on the lens, that doesn't bother me at all. I've already gotten used to the same situation on my FX6 with lenses that do not have iris rings. Once you get used to it you'll automatically reach for the knob instead of a ring on the lens. Plus, to be honest, I hardly ever change the iris anyway. The lenses on my cameras are almost permanently set for wide-open aperture and then I use the variable ND to control the exposure.
@@DougJensenVortexMedia I can imagine you tweaking the formula! yep...always getting the most of video cameras....great..S-Cinetone would be my choice for my stuff since I would want to match it to my FX30. With the FX6 which I use at work we shoot low budget commercials etc and we don't change the aperture midshot. But for live events I just have to make adjustments when using my ancient Canon XF300 and the only way I can ride the changes is by adjusting the iris. I don;t use ND indoors. But if the pic quality is this good I can live with a minor inconvenient. OH Sony...gives us all the goodies in one camcorder to rule them all! LOL
Doug you just got my blood pumping with excitement!! I have the new nx800 and bought it for the sole reason to start taking some great footage at the ATV/Dirt bike off-road racing series. And have yet to go test it out at the races. I know it’s going to do great, I test it at the soccer game that I went to, but the stadium lights were terrible and I was using ISO 10,000 just to get it bright enough. And at that high of ISO, it was getting grainy or filled with noise. But seeing your video during the daytime of some great racing shots you took just got me excited to use it at the races. Do you have time to answer a question or two? I’m a professional photographer first and I know a lot on how to expose, shutter speed etc. But I’m getting into the video side now and I was wondering if you were using auto exposure at all while taking this footage or were you in full manual mode. Switching over from a mirrorless Sony cameras like a7iv, A7RV, fx30 this new camcorder by Sony is different with its features. Like DB is ISO, shutter angle is shutter speed. I did find in the menus to switch DB over to ISO, and shutter angle over to shutter speed so I am not scratching my head trying to figure out what was what. But did you use the slow motion feature or did you just switch it over to 4K 120? Thank you for your time and great footage. Thanks for sharing.
You will love shooting any motorsports with your NX800. And I'm sure you'll get better results in daylight. In addition to the great picture quality and cool features, it is a very light and easy camera to carrry around the track -- which counts for a lot in my book. I did not use any auto-exposure, but I did use custom auto-focus about 75% of the time. I used S&Q Motion rather than the camera's 120p video format. If you prefer to use fractions of a second for shutter angle you can change that setting, but I would suggest you stick with shutter angle. The advantage is that once you set, there is never a reason to change it. Also, GAIN is used to indicated sensivity on professional camcorders. You have the option of switching to ISO, but those numbers are meaningless on a camcorder such as this. Set the GAIN to 0dB and never raise it unless there is no other option. +3dB = 1/2-stop. +6dB = 1-stop, etc. Very Simple.
@@DougJensenVortexMedia thanks again Doug for taking the time to explain the questions I asked and extremely detailed answers. You don't know how much that means to me. Yeah I just am so used to using ISO on my mirrorless cameras when I saw DB I had no clue what their values were compared to ISO. And like you said, keep it on zero. When I do portraits, I always keep it on 100 and rarely ever go over 500 if ever needed. I want the best quality image, so that will be the same with this camcorder. When I was testing out the camera doing the soccer game and I kept it on flexible spot and kept a box right in the center of my LCD to make sure that what I was focusing on was in the center of the screen and I just kept it on the player that I was focusing on, and it locked right onto their face because I had it on face recognition. But yeah, I really am excited to go to the races and hopefully it's gonna be a nice bright day. It's rained every day since I've received mine so it's always dark and gloomy outside. Lol. But thanks again.
Yes, everything was shot from a tripod. I used my Sachtler Aktiv8 with Flowtech75 legs because that's what I'm traveling with. I have an Aktiv6 head back at home that would be just as smooth.
@@DougJensenVortexMedia Nice! I’ve been looking to upgrade my tripod and I’ve heard good things about the flow tech 75 and aktiv8 system. It’s good to see footage from that setup.
Oh yeah bro! That is excellent! Good of you to share. My gut told me this was going to be an excellent sports camera.
Yes, yes, yes Doug. Great shot's, love the music too. Keep em coming. Bobby D.
Amazing noticing the extra stuff like the dirt pile being shoved around by the rear tire/(Aussies say tyre) at 0:36.

Which shots were shot in 240 fps? Could you label them?
Sorry, that would take too much time.
@@DougJensenVortexMedia could you then just shoot test clips that are exclusively 240 fps?
